People are only just realising they’ve been packing their suitcase wrong – you’ll fit much more in with a ‘genius’ hack

WE’VE all experienced it at least once or twice – the waging war against the zip on your suitcase just hours before a flight.

There’s nothing more annoying than having to take out a pair of shoes, multiple bikinis or leave your straighteners at home, only to ensure that you can fit the bare necessities in for a trip.

But whilst many were impressed with Aline Lowry’s trick, not everyone was quite on the same page[/caption]

And if you’ve tried all things from packing cubes to vacuum-packed bags in a bid to save space in your luggage but with no success, then you’ve come to the right place.

Thanks to a ‘genius’ hack, many travellers are only just realising that they’ve been packing their suitcase all wrong.

Content creator Aline Lowry took to social media to share her simple but effective space-saving packing hack – and it’s left many very impressed.

Thanks to this influencer’s trick, which has now gone viral online, gone are the days of putting your suitcase on the floor to stuff in all your bits.

Now, according to Aline, the best way to load up your belongings is to pack your suitcase upright on a bed.

In her short video which has amassed 8.6 million views, the fashion and travel influencer stood up an empty suitcase on her bed and packed it from bottom to top.

She asked her followers: “Have you ever packed like this? I saw someone packing with their bag in a vertical position and I had to try.”

Thrilled with the amount of stuff she was able to squeeze in, the blonde beauty continued: “I’m very impressed by the amount of clothes I was able to put in this bag.”

Not only this, but Aline also recognised: “I think this will be a great way when you arrive at the hotel and you don’t unpack at all, this is like a drawer full of clothes.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @alinelowry, has clearly impressed many, as it has quickly amassed a whopping 209,600 likes, 50,800 saves and 59,800 shares.

As well as this, 722 users eagerly raced to the comments, keen to share their thoughts on the packing trick.

One person said: “I pack my groceries like that but never thought to pack my suitcase that way. Genius!”

I can’t believe I have never thought of this!

Another added: “Genius idea, so easy to find your stuff.”

A third commented: “I can’t believe I have never thought of this!”

But despite this, at the same time many travel fans raved about packing cubes as opposed to Aline’s savvy trick.

One user beamed: “I prefer packing cubes.”

A second agreed: “Packing cubes win.”

Whilst someone else chimed in: “Packing cubes are the way to go!”

Holiday packing tips

Jemma Solomon, aka The Label Lady has got 5 packing tips to help you get organised for your next holiday.

1. Write a list

Think about all the essentials you need to take with you; suncream, medicine, a few games for the kids, beach towels, and write everything in one list, which you can tick off as you add it to your suitcase.

Or for complete ease, try Google’s AI app – Gemini – which will create a list for you and help you not over pack.

2. Involve your kids

Jemma said: “My girls are getting older, they’re 11 and nine, and they enjoy helping to pack. So I send them a list, and say ‘this is what you need’ and they follow the list.

“And then I give them a rucksack each – and say to them ‘you can have whatever you want in there as long as it’s not liquid’, and they can take that on the plane. And that’s their ‘home away from home’ items.”

3. Try a hack or two

She said: “I think they all work, but for different reasons – and you’ve just got to pick the right one for your trip.

“Rolling your clothes is really good to stop your clothes from getting creases. And if you’re trying to get a lot of items into your case, it’s a space saver.

“Packing cubes are great – for example, I’m going on holiday with my three kids and we’re all using the same suitcase for our clothes.

“These handy compartments let you separate your clothes, toiletries and tech into designated cubes, maximising luggage space by keeping your items compressed and neatly stacked.

“I love taking them abroad with the family and it means my kids can easily take charge of their own items once we’ve arrived.”

4. Decant beauty products

Do you really need to take full-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner with you? The beauty industry has evolved so much, you can now buy shampoo bars or sheets – which are much lighter and smaller.

Or, if you’ll be popping to the shops when you’re abroad, consider buying some items when you arrive.

5. Get organised before you come home

Jemma said: “When you repack on holiday [before coming home], the trick is to separate clean from dirty clothes.

“Also pack it in some form of order – so lights, darks, colours for items that need washing, or if you wash your clothes by person in the household, piles for each person.

“Then you can put it straight into the washing machine. Do it straight away, don’t leave it.”

Not only this, but others weren’t too keen on having a suitcase on their bed.

One cleaning enthusiast shared: “Wheels on the bed is diabolical.”

At the same time, another penned: “Luggage on the bed. I just can’t.”

Other items that have seen an increase in price included nappies that went up by 8.9%, dummies at 8.4% and infant formula at 8.1%.

Informing fellow money-smart shoppers about the news, Holly revealed that those with a Morrisons More Card should check their Morrisons app.

”Great for little ones or to put in food bank. If you don’t have it on your app, check that you are part of the baby and toddler club.”

Since being uploaded on the platform, the post has taken the page by storm, racking up 25 likes and over 90 comments in less than 24 hours.

As dozens flooded to comments to tag their pals, one woman said: ”Actually got one for once will come in very handy thank you.”

But not everyone had such great luck, as many complained they didn’t have the special offer on their app.

”I’m on the baby club and not on mine,” cried one Morrisons shopper.

Someone else chimed in: ”I don’t have this but could do with it. Booooo Morrisons.”

Whatever you’re buying, it’s always a good idea to shop around to find the best deal.

You can compare prices on websites like Google shopping, which is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web.

Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers.

All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one.

Nasa issues huge update on ‘city-killer’ asteroid YR4 – with chances of space rock smashing Earth changing drastically

NASA has issued a huge update on the “city-killer” asteroid hurtling in Earth’s direction – and the odds of a collision have jumped drastically.

After being discovered in December, YR4 shot to the top of Nasa’s asteroid risk list – and was judged to have an alarming 1-in-32 chance of smashing into us.

If YR4 hits Earth, the collision would be powerful enough to destroy an entire city[/caption]

But the odds constantly changed as scientists analysed the rock – and have done again.

Nasa now believes YR4 has just a 1-in-26,000 chance of striking Earth – meaning there is a 99.9961 per cent chance the rock will sail on past.

It will still pass near Earth in 2028 – around 5 million miles away – and then again in December 2032, which was the approach causing such alarm.

However, scientists now think there will be 167,000 miles of clear sky – and no Christmas collision.

If YR4 – estimated between 40m and 90m wide – did strike Earth, it would pack a punch equivalent to eight billion kilos of TNT, scientists calculated.

It would blow a 1.2mile-across crater into the Earth’s crust, and a terrifying simulation showed what the impact might look like.

YR4 had been graded as level three on the Torino scale – the system used since 1999 to categorize potential Earth impact events.

This emergency level means: “A close encounter, meriting attention buy astronomers. Current calculations give a one per cent or greater chance of collision capable of localised destruction.”

However, the new, much lower chance of collision means YR4 slides back down to level zero.

Any event with a less than 1-in-1000 chance of occurring falls within this band.

Richard Binzel, Professor of Planetary Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who created the Torino scale, said: “The NASA JPL Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) now lists the 2024 YR4 impact probability as 0.00005 (0.005%) or 1-in-20,000 for its passage by Earth in 2032.

“That’s impact probability zero folks.”

Another part of the level three description says: “Most likely, new telescopic observations will lead to re-assignment to level zero.

“Attention by public and public officials is merited if the encounter is less than a decade away.”

The chance of an impact is now projected as much less likely[/caption]

So, YR4’s descent to level zero has conformed with the Torino scale’s predictions.

The odds for YR4 striking Earth began at 1-in-83, before steadily reducing to a trough of 1-in-32.

The projected odds have moved around as scientists gathered more data on the speeding asteroid.

The calculations mapping the rock’s path include a lot of mathematical uncertainty, but this is reduced as more data is collected – allowing for more accurate predictions.

Asteroid hunter David Rankin, of the Catalina Sky Survey, knew from the outset the odds of a collision would rise and then fall, and explained why the figures change.

He told Space.com: “Imagine holding a stick that is a few feet long. If you move the stick in your hand a fraction of an inch, you hardly notice any movement on the other end.

“Now imagine that stick is many millions of miles long. Moving your hand a fraction of an inch will cause dramatic changes on the other end.”

The near-certainty that YR4 will pass by without incident will push it out of public conversation, Binzel said, but there are some lessons to take away from the debacle.

A range of planetary defence procedures were being considered to deal with YR4

He told the website: “As 2024 YR4 fades away from the news cycle, I think there is an overall context that is the most important takeaway news.

“An object the size of YR4 passes harmlessly through the Earth-moon neighbourhood as frequently as a few times per year.

“The YR4 episode is just the beginning for astronomers gaining the capability to see these objects before they come calling through our neck of the woods.”

He warned there will be future asteroids that, initially, will be calculated as having a high chance of smashing into Earth.

Binzel added: “But, just like YR4, with a little time and patient tracking, we will be able to rule out entirely any hazard.

“This means that objects with low categories on the Torino Scale are likely to be a common occurrence, of interest to space enthusiasts and astronomers for follow-up, but not particularly newsworthy.”

Binzel concluded: “Rather than making anyone anxious, by finding these objects that are already out there and pinning down their orbits, we are becoming more secure in our knowledge that any sizable asteroid is not likely to take us by surprise.”
