Michael Lowry asks to address Dail over ‘so-called new allegations’ by Sinn Fein about his purchase of UK football club

MICHAEL Lowry wants to address the Dail in response to “so-called new allegations” about him by Pearse Doherty.

The Sinn Fein TD, under Dail privilege, claimed he burned documents relating to a deal to buy Doncaster Rovers football club in the UK in a bid to hide them from a tribunal.

The club was bought by businessman Denis O’Brien in 1998, with Independent TD Lowry claiming he never had any part in this deal.

But Doherty alleged on Thursday that “fake documents” were made for the Moriarty Tribunal to create a “false narrative”.

And he urged Lowry, a member of the Regional Independent Group, to “come clean”.

Lowry said he wrote to Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy’s office hours after Doherty “availed of Dail privilege to make so-called new allegations in respect of my dealings with the Moriarty Tribunal”.

He today added: “I formally requested an early opportunity to make a personal statement on the floor of the Dail to address this smear.”

A tribunal report said it was “unable to determine the precise nature” of Lowry’s interest in the team and the “extent to which it was intended he’d benefit”.

Earlier this week, both Mr O’Brien and Mr Lowry insisted that Mr Lowry had no involvement in the Doncaster deal.

However, speaking under Dail privilege, Pearse Doherty claimed that Deputy Lowry had “57 meetings in relation to the Doncaster deal including here in the Houses of the Oireachtas with the organisers of the project and representatives of sport.”

The Sinn Fein TD said: “These payments were never disclosed to the tribunal.

“Will he use Government’s time to explain to this House and the public why he on the 15th of March 2001 met with other key individuals in relation to this deal in Dublin – the outcome of the meeting was the creation of a false narrative and fake new documents.

“Fake documents that were given to the tribunal.

“Maybe he could explain why he, it is claimed, with two others that were central to these deals met in a rural farm on August 2002 to burn the original documents pertaining to these deals.

“He did so to make sure that the truth would never see the light of day.

“The information that I am telling you now Tanaiste comes directly from one of the men present.”

The Traitors star Charlotte breaks silence as furious fans says she was robbed after controversial twist

THE Traitors star Charlotte Berman has broken her silence – as fans claimed she was ‘robbed’ after a controversial twist.

Business director Charlotte entered as a Faithful, only to be recruited as a Traitor in episode eight.

Viewers claimed a late-game twist “robbed” her of the £94,000 prize money.

It saw fellow player Frankie become the “Seer”, granting her the ability to learn any other player’s role.

The interior designer chose Charlotte, hoping for affirmation about her closest ally – only to be left stunned to learn the truth.

One fan wrote on X: “Charlotte is genuinely the most legendary player the show has seen. Fiercely intelligent, utterly ruthless and delightfully charming, she played it the way traitors should: COLD.

“Ultimately robbed by the power of the Seer, my head still bows to her.”

Another remarked: Well the ‘seer’ power ruined the final. Charlotte was robbed. And poor Alexander. I am unamused.#TheTraitors.”

Speaking to MailOnline, Charlotte said: “I think the fact that Freddie had obviously voted for me at the banishment before he went, I think it would have been very hard for me to win from that.

“I think especially given the way that the game was played this year with the lack of revealing towards the end of who we were.

“I think if there’s one sprig of doubt you’re out, ‘oh Freddie, voted for you, you’re out.”

As the only witnesses to the secret meeting, each claimed the other was a Traitor.

Unfortunately for Charlotte, the other remaining players believed Frankie and she was banished.

She reached the final five alongside Frankie, Jake Brown, Alexander Dragonetti and Leanne Quigley.

Jake and Leanne, both 28, went on to scoop the prize money after revealing they were both Faithful.

Earlier in the series, Minah Shannon recruited Charlotte after the other original Traitors were eliminated.

Charlotte had already been deceiving the other players – by pretending to be from Wales.

Meanwhile, Minah had been hoping to continue the “sisterhood” among the initial line-up.

Wary of a potential betrayal, Charlotte planted seeds about her ally ultimately leading to Minah’s banishment.

How does The Traitors work and who hosts it?

The Traitors first launched in the UK in 2022, after the Dutch format was acquired by the BBC.

Claudia Winkleman is the show’s host, and has now hosted all three series to date.

How does it work?

It is a reality game show that involves 22 contestants, and some of them are chosen to be The Traitors.

The Traitors sees a group of contestants taking part in “the ultimate game of truth and deception”.

The group of contestants are competing for the chance to walk away with a huge cash prize.

While navigating through a series of challenges, the team are also tasked with figuring out who the Traitors are in the group (usually three contestants).

Each night, the Traitors gather to “eliminate” one of the Faithful, removing them from the competition

Meanwhile, the traitors can be “banished” if they’re successfully outed as a traitor by a faithful.

The winners of the show are either the Traitor who remains undetected or the Faithfuls if they successfully eliminate all the Traitors.

The prize sees the winner could get £120K.

She then recruited Freddie Fraser, who’d had suspicion over him throughout the series.

Charlotte used information about a shield – which Freddie hadn’t been privy to – as a means of eliminating him as well.

Despite showing impressive tactical game play, it was not enough to secure victory in the end.

The Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Man Utd send scouts to watch former star they sold in the summer over buying him back in £17million transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED are considering a shock move to re-sign Alvaro Carreras, according to reports.

The 21-year-old left-back was on the books of the Red Devils until the summer but never made a senior appearance for the club.

Man Utd could re-sign Alvaro Carreras from Benfica[/caption]

Carreras could now be set for an immediate return to Old Trafford for £17million – just six months after he left in a £5m, plus £2.5m in add-ons, deal.

Reports from outlet Record in Portugal state United have sent scouts to watch the Benfica star against Casa Pia today.

They also claim that Ruben Amorim’s side have a £42m buy-back clause in Carreras’ contract.

But Benfica are seemingly unlikely to hold out for that fee.

Carreras, who has a contract in Lisbon until 2029, has impressed this season in an attacking full-back role and he could suit Amorim‘s wing-back system.

The Spaniard joined United from Real Madrid in 2020.

He had spells away from the club on loan at Preston, Granada and Benfica, with latter then making it a permanent move in the summer.

Speculation suggests that Carreras is seen as an alternative to Lecce star Patrick Dorgu.

United are in talks with the versatile 20-year-old over a potential month this January.

But the Italian side are standing firm in their £33.6m valuation of Dorgu.

The club have reportedly seen a second bid worth £25.2m rejected for him.

Man Utd squad transfer verdict

SunSport gives its verdict on what Man Utd stars should stay or go in the first phase of Ruben Amorim's squad rebuild:

Andre Onana – Stay

Despite being guilty of some erratic performances, Andre Onana remains a world-class goalkeeper and United would struggle to find better in the market.

The defence has begun to look more solid in recent weeks now Amorim has had time to coach the structure into the team, and hopefully, that will be converted into clean sheets going forward.

Noussair Mazraoui – Stay

The best signing from the summer window so far, Noussair Mazraoui has proven to be everything Man Utd needed and more.

Versatile, reliable and passionate no matter whether he plays at wing-back or centre-back, it is a no-brainer to keep the Moroccan.

Leny Yoro – Stay

After a pre-season injury, Leny Yoro has taken some time to bed in but he has shown some superb moments in a Man Utd shirt already like his lung-busting run to block a Liverpool shot in the 2-2 draw at Anfield earlier this month.

At the age of 19 he will only get better and while too much expectation should not be thrust on him just yet, the early signs suggest he could be a mainstay in defence for years to come.

Harry Maguire – Go

The last time we did this list Harry Maguire was one of our main defensive options to be sold, but since Amorim has come with the back three the England international has barely put a foot wrong.

The issue with Maguire is that while he is perfectly suited to a back three, he will be 32 in the summer and has just one year left on his contract, so if a serious offer comes in he should regrettably be sold.

Matthijs de Ligt – Stay

Matthijs de Ligt has been very hit or miss since arriving in the summer. Capable of heroic last-ditch tackles like he did at Arsenal and also capable of some very silly passages of play like his handball against Liverpool.

In many ways, the Dutchman seems like a younger version of Maguire and given some more time to bed in he should improve even more.

Lisandro Martinez – Stay

Has really started to grow into the Amorim system in recent games after a very sticky patch of form.

He is one of the team’s best progressive passers in the build-up phase and has the dogged mentality this team will need to improve and claw its way up the table.

Luke Shaw – Go

It’s been said that one of the best abilities is availability, and that rings incredibly true for Luke Shaw.

World class on his day and is clearly still capable of finding those levels, as seen at less than full fitness with England at the Euros. But he is simply not available often enough to warrant keeping.

Tyrell Malacia – Go

Tyrell Malacia is still recovering his match sharpness from his two-year injury layoff, so it is a bit harsh to make a verdict on him so soon.

The current concern is that United will need to aggressively recruit specialist left wing-backs in the summer, and Malacia so far has not looked totally comfortable playing there.

Manuel Ugarte – Stay

Question marks were being raised about him after his first few games. But under Amorim, Manuel Ugarte has once again become the lynchpin of his midfield.

He knows the system inside out and is one of the Premier League’s most proficient ball winners. It would be madness to consider his sale next summer.

Kobbie Mainoo – Stay

Despite reports that Chelsea and Bayern Munich want to sign the 19-year-old, Kobbie Mainoo should be one of the few genuinely untouchable stars at the club and his contract situation needs sorting ASAP.

He has quality and aspects to his game not possessed by many other midfielders, and with improvements to the stars around him, he and Ugarte should be able to form an effective partnership for many years to come.

Casemiro – Go

Casemiro unfortunately seemed to lose his legs going into his second season at Man Utd. And with the 3-4-3 system demanding even more running from him, it is clear he simply does not fit the bill for what the club need going forward.

It would also help the club’s financial goals to see him sold due to his massive £375,000-a-week wages being taken off the books.

Bruno Fernandes – Stay

The club captain, Bruno Fernandes has faced a lot of criticism since taking the armband for his erratic decisions and losing his temper.

Yet he remains the best player in the squad by some distance and shows the mentality the squad needs to improve. Besides it’s not like United’s most famous captain of the Premier League era, Roy Keane, was exactly cool-headed.

Antony – Go

There’s a definite case to argue that Antony may be the worst pound-for-pound signing in Premier League history, with games too often passing him by and lacking quality when he is involved.

That being said, he has improved in a number of brief cameos when featuring as a wing-back under Amorim. But unless there is a plan for him to learn the position and become a specialist he should be moved on.

Marcus Rashford – Go

It was not supposed to end like this. Once the darling of Old Trafford and Carrington, Marcus Rashford’s comments admitting he wanted a new challenge were probably the final nail in the coffin for his Man Utd future.

There is a classy player in there if he can find the motivation to love his football again. A sale to a rival should be ruled out for fear of exactly that, while a sale overseas should be targeted and pushed by the club.

Amad Diallo – Stay

Has taken a real liking to his role as either the right No.10 in the 3-4-3 or as the right wing-back.

Amad Diallo has been one of the team’s best players this season and was rewarded with a new deal as a result.

Alejandro Garnacho – Go

Arguably the trickiest star on the list, Alejandro Garnacho has bags of raw talent to elevate him to being world-class. But recent off-field issues and poor form have doubt cast on his future.

If, as reports suggest, a major bid of £60m from the likes of Napoli comes in there will be a tough decision to make. Though it may be the financial situation of the club which ultimately tips the scale.

Joshua Zirkzee – Go

Joshua Zirkzee has certainly been hit-and-miss at United so far. He has had some games and moments where he has looked very impressive, and others where he is simply not good enough.

He has a very unique profile which makes him top drawer in the right system, it is just United will probably never play the right way for him to truly excel.

Simon Easterby will be at the helm for Ireland as Andy Farrell is forced to take a sabbatical as he is head coach of The Lions for next summer’s Tour of Australia.

Rugby icon Sexton hung up his boots after the 2023 Rugby World Cup but returned to the camp as a mentor last season.

And now he’s been snapped as he put some of the team through their drills during a training session in the Algarve.

The legendary Leinster out-half Sexton was also brought into the fold last year for the numbers tens in the squad.

38-year-old Sexton looked in a serious mood as he instructed the backs and out-halves during a number of unopposed drills.

The squad are on a warm weather training camp at ‘The Campus’ facility in Quinta do Lago, Portugal.

The Campus is a state-of-the-art performance centre used by some of the wordl’s top teams and athletes.

It has also high performance gym, tennis and padel courts, swimming pool, cycling, group classes and personal training, recovery suites and sports rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, ex-All Black star Justin Marshall reckons teams have figured out how to play against Ireland.

The legendary scrum-half also thinks that the Six Nations Champions may have lost their ‘mojo’.

Speaking on DSPN with Martin Devlin, he questioned Ireland ahead of their opening clash against in on Saturday week.

And Marshall reckons they may struggle in the 2025 edition.

He said: “You do have to wonder whether or not they’ve lost their mojo a little bit.

“I thought that they still have the calibre of player but they’re starting to get figured out a little bit in the way that they play.

“Particularly defensively, the All Blacks have struggled [in attack] against them for a couple of years.

“But both Australia and New Zealand showed that they could score tries against Ireland and that will be concerning for Andy Farrell.”

Antony leaves Man Utd with more yellow cards than goals as £86m Ten Hag flop goes down as one of worst transfers ever

ANTONY has left Manchester United after picking up more yellow cards than scoring goals.

The Brazilian winger has joined Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the season.

The deal is a straight loan deal and there is no option for it to be made permanent in the summer.

SunSport understands the Red Devils will still be paying 16 per cent of the former Ajax star’s £200,000-per-week salary.

The Spanish outfit will also pay Antony‘s bonuses at the end of the season.

Antony, 24, joined Man United in 2022 as he was reunited with now-sacked manager Erik ten Hag.

The club forked out a massive £85.5million for his signature with the hope for him to become a star at Old Trafford.

However, he struggled to bring over the form he showed in Holland in England.

He made 96 appearances for the club in all competitions and only contributed 12 goals and five assists.

Antony actually picked up 14 yellow cards during this time, more than the amount of goals he scored.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

His struggles saw him drop behind the likes of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho in the pecking order.

Man United confirmed his temporary departure on social media.

Antony's Manchester United 2024-25 EPL stats: 8 games, 3 chances created, 0 goals, 0 assists, 3 shots on target, 59 passes, 2 fouls.

A statement read: “Manchester United forward Antony will spend the rest of the 2024/25 season in Spain, subject to international clearance.

“Everybody at United would like to wish Antony the best of luck for his spell in Seville.”

His transfer fee makes him the second most expensive signing by Man United in the club’s history.

Only Paul Pogba’s return to the club in 2016 cost more when the club spent £88m to bring back the midfielder.

Antony will undoubtedly go down as one of the worst transfers in the history of the Prem.

His inability to be reliable in front of goal and expense to the club has cost them in more ways than one.

Antony has shared a five-word message since arriving at his new club.

He told reporters: “I’m so happy, I’m ready.”

Originally, the Ford Capri dates back to 1972, however, this version was built in the mid-80s.

It was constructed using two crushed cars that were once used to teach students about repairing accident damage at a technical school.

Since this time, it was re-registered in August 1986 with a new age-related number plate and then fully restored by 2016.

Previously, this car came in white, but now it’s a flashy Daytona Yellow.

It flaunts a 2.0-litre Ford Sierra Pinto engine with power steering and a five-speed gearbox.

Along with an electronic distributor and a stainless steel exhaust.

Hidden in the boot are lots of spare parts – making repairs and maintenance less time-consuming.

As stated on its listing, it has “no known issues” and runs and drives normally.

Its MoT did expire in 2022, but as a historic vehicle, it does not need annual testing.

It has only had one owner, as recorded on the logbook and comes with a variety of important documents.

Such as a write-up of its history from the mid-70s onwards, and the 2021 Classic Car Weekly article on the car.

It also has its V5C, DVLA and Ford correspondence related to the re-registration.

Along with assorted invoices and MoT certificates.

Its new owner can also use a USB stick to see the photos of its restoration, along with general images and a mileage spreadsheet from May 2018 to October 2024.

The vehicle was sold for £8,748 by Anglia Car Auctions in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.
