Sky Sports forced to apologise to Manchester City on live TV for what pundit Tim Sherwood said about club
SKY presenter Simon Thomas was forced into an awkward apology after Tim Sherwood’s on-air comments about Manchester City.
The former Blackburn midfielder joined Soccer Saturday to report on the weekend’s Premier League action.
Sky pundit Tim Sherwood made comments about Man City’s transfer dealings on Saturday[/caption] Soccer Saturday host Simon Thomas later issued an on-air apology[/caption] Reigning champions City are currently under investigation by the Premier League[/caption]Sherwood and the rest of the panel discussed City’s January transfer dealing as they looked ahead to Saturday’s game with Chelsea at the Etihad.
Trio Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis have arrived at the Etihad for a combined spend of over £100million over the past few weeks.
City were slapped with a whopping 115 charges last February over alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules.
Sherwood said: “They seem to be the only team who can spend money, and they’ve got 115 [charges] over their head.”
Asked by co-pundit Paul Merson if he believed City were heading for a transfer embargo, he replied: “Perhaps yeah, they must know something.”
Sherwood continued: “They’re trying to build for the future, they made a mistake by not buying in the summer.
“I think they’ve realised that, it’s obviously brilliant in hindsight, we’ve all got a degree in that.
“If there’s players available they will go and get them, even if they have to pay over the top, they don’t care. Man City make their own rules up.”

Following an ad break, host Thomas was put on screen to issue an apology on behalf of Sky.
Thomas said: “We had a conversation earlier today in the build-up about Manchester City [regarding] their transfer business.
“There was a comment made about Man City and the rules.
“I just want to say that they are absolutely not the views of Sky Sports and we apologise to Manchester City for those comments.”
The Premier League have now been investigating City for more than five years.
City have vehemently denied the charges, with the alleged rule-breaking said to have taken place over a 14-year period.
The club were initially hit with 115 charges in February 2023, but these were increased to 130 following an administration issue.
Despite a three-man panel hearing closing arguments in December, it will still be months before a verdict is released.
What will happen to Man City?
MAN CITY began the season as favourites to win the Premier League title yet again – but there is one elephant in the room that threatens to put the skids under the Etihad giants.
Sunsport’s MARTIN LIPTON discusses what the next few months could hold with Head of Sport SHAUN CUSTIS….
Custis: So the big question – will there be a resolution this season?
Lipton: Yes…. probably! It will take at least a month to go through the evidence. So I suspect around March, April time, we will get a result. But that’s where it starts to get tricky.
Custis: Why is that?
Lipton: If the result is in City’s favour, that’s the end of the matter. They will be cleared. They will have no punishment to face.
But if City are found guilty, these will be the heaviest penalties ever imposed by the Premier League.
I suspect if they are found guilty, they will be expelled from the league or given a massive points deduction and a huge fine so that they’re not in the Premier League next season.
Check out the full discussion on Man City’s future.
City have been accused of failing to accurately report their finances over a nine-year period from the 2009-10 season to 2017-18.
It is also alleged they failed to provide all the details about wages for a host of players and former manager Roberto Mancini.
The club are then charged with failing to cooperate with the Prem’s investigation.
If found guilty, City could be hit with a points deduction or financial penalties.
They could also be relegated from the Premier League if they’re found to have committed the most serious charges.
Marty Kavanagh salvages draw for Carlow vs Offaly with 12-point display while Down see off Kildare
MARTY KAVANAGH’S 12th point of the day salvaged a draw for CARLOW against OFFALY at O’Connor Park.
The hosts’ failure to threaten the visitors’ goal at any stage meant they struggled to turn their supremacy into a commanding lead.
The Division 1B clash finished 0-19 to 1-16 in Tullamore, with Carlow getting the only goal through James Doyle with five minutes played.
Offaly took control in the second quarter and by half-time they led by 0-13 to 1-7, with centre-forward Dan Bourke and full-forward Charlie Mitchell scoring 0-3 each in that 35 minutes.
However, they continued to concede handy frees to Kavanagh, who struggled with his accuracy in the opening half but relentlessly punished every foul after half-time.
Ciarán Whelan and Fiachra Fitzpatrick got the better of things at midfield to help Carlow establish a platform.
And while Offaly’s defence was dominant in open play, they left the door open with a couple of glaring errors up front and led by just two, 0-19 to 1-14, going into stoppage time.
Kavanagh got two chances, one from 60 metres out and one from just inside his own 65 with the last puck, and the St Mullin’s man nailed both.
In Division 2, there were tight games all round.
First-half goals from Daithí Sands and Eoin Pucci helped DOWN to a 2-19 to 0-22 win over KILDARE in Ballycran.
A miserable opening 35 minutes for the Lilywhites brought a missed penalty and ten wides.
Yet they came from seven behind to lead by one with five minutes to play, only for the Ulstermen to prevail.
DONEGAL almost pulled off a shock against MEATH in Trim but a penalty goal from keeper Luke White and a series of fine frees from Gerry Gilmore were not quite enough.
Goals from Cian Rogers and Jack Regan helped Meath to a narrow 2-12 to 1-14 victory.
In Omagh, DERRY won 1-13 to 0-14 despite Aidy Kelly’s 0-11 haul for TYRONE.
Furious Love Island star robbed on the train as thief takes his designer bag with ‘everything important’ in it
A LOVE Island alum was left fuming after his designer luggage with “everything important in it” was swiped from a train.
The ITV2 star took to Instagram to rant about the shock crime, which came on a journey towards Milton Keynes, claiming it took a “split second” for his belongings to be stolen.
Wes Nelson – who has now carved out a music career – had his designer bag swiped[/caption] The 26-year-old posted an angry rant on Instagram[/caption]Luckily music star Wes Nelson had taken his MacBook laptop from his bag before the thief struck.
The Staffordshire-born singer, 26, appeared in the fourth Love Island season back in 2018.
He used his platform to build his music career and released debut single Say Nothing five years ago.
His new tracks – as yet not heard by fans – have remained in tact amid the ordeal.
Wes posted an image of his dark train table onto social media with the stark words: “My LV [Louis Vuitton] bag was just stolen on the train just as we stopped at Milton Keynes.
“Had everything important in it.
“I’m lucky I took my MacBook out before the journey. All my music would have been GONE.
“Anyway just a heads up, it took a split second to look away and that s**t was gone.”
He finished off his understandably angry message with the words: “Rats everywhere.”
In his second Instagram slide, Wes posted an image showing his swanky luggage in the overhead rack.
Yet the Nice To Meet Ya hitmaker scrawled a green arrow towards the bag as he attempted to figure out how the mishap happened.
Wes told fans: “Just clocked in this pic I sent earlier.
“The bag has been pulled waaaay back to the seat behind me, the guy must have been slowly sliding it backwards whenever I looked down.

HAPPIER CHAPTER
Previously, Wes told how he has become a millionaire after his Love Island fame.
Back in 2020, he signed a record deal with music industry juggernauts EMI Records, calling it a “pinch myself moment.”
At the time, he told The Sun: “It’s something I’ve wanted to do my entire life.
“I think it’s that stamp of approval to say ‘yep, you’re a professional singer now’.
“For me, it’s most definitely my biggest achievement in my entire life.”
He added: “My niche is I can switch a lot of things up in my songs so everyone that listens to it says ‘you sound like three different people’.
“I’m trying to vary every single song that I do and trying to make everything a bit different to what’s currently out there.”
It was his time on the X Factor as part of Love Island group No Love Lost that kickstarted his transition from TV star to singer.
Last year, he was first to tell us what is on his “weird” tour rider.
Wes has had sold out tours, a top three record in debut track See Nobody.
He has also collaborated with his favourite artist, Craig David.
The duo even performed track Abracadabra in the Love Island villa in 2024.
Wes then uploaded an image of his bag moved on the overhead rack and told how it had been pulled ‘way back’[/caption] He starred on Love Island’s fourth instalment[/caption]
