Shamrock Rovers make ex-Celtic and Wales star latest transfer signing as Stephen Bradley reveals plans for more

SHAMROCK ROVERS have snapped up former Wales defender Adam Matthews and Stephen Bradley hopes to bring in further re-enforcements.

Ex-Celtic man Matthews, 33, was most recently with Omonia Nicosia but has become the Hoops fifth new arrival following Ed McGinty, Danny Grant, Michael Noonan and Matt Healy.

And more could follow with Rovers’ still keen on re-signing Johnny Kenny on loan from Celtic, though any future move will likely only be until July.

Boss Bradley said: “We’re still talking with people and that will continue. These things take time, but we’re definitely still talking to one or two others that we’d like to bring in.

“Also, as we’ve done every year, we’ll be patient in what we do, we have our targets, and we’ll work on them and do our best as a club to make them come off.”

But he was delighted to get the deal for Matthews over the line after talks throughout the off-season to bring the 14-times capped Welshman to Tallaght.

Bradley added: “He’s one we’ve been working on for a while now and had many conversations. We are delighted to get Adam in, with the level he has played at.

“Stephen McPhail (Sporting Director) had actually played with Adam, so we knew quite a lot about him.

“He will bring really valuable experience, and his ability on the pitch speaks for itself so we’re really looking forward to getting Adam in.”

Matthews has plenty of experience from his time at Cardiff City, Celtic, Sunderland and Charlton.

And Bradley acknowledged that the defender – who can play anywhere across the back line – will be important in the build-up to next month’s Conference League play-off with Molde.

He said: “The level Adam has played, that will be really important in the lead up to the Molde games and the games themselves.

“But obviously we haven’t just signed Adam for those Molde games, we’ve signed him as he’ll add real value to the group on and off the pitch.”

The heartbreaking twist uncovers the full extent of April’s disappearance, and Marlon is left reeling as he grapples with the shock of her fate[/caption]

In a tense turn of events, Ross takes Marlon aside to remind him of the toll his actions are having on his family.

Encouraging Marlon to open up about his black eye, Ross learns that Marlon was tricked into handing over money and suffered the injury in the process.

Concerned for Marlon’s well-being, Ross urges him to focus on his family.

But it remains unclear whether Marlon will take the advice to heart.

When Marlon returns home, Rhona is shocked but relieved to hear from Ross that Marlon is planning to take a step back.

However, Marlon continues to deflect her questions about his eye, causing tension between them.

Rhona’s patience reaches its limit as Marlon insists on continuing the search for April.

The next day, Rhona, still shut out of Marlon’s struggles, pushes him to spend more time with Leo and Ivy to help mend their family.

Her suggestion sparks Marlon’s anger, leaving her devastated.

Meanwhile, Paddy urges Marlon to communicate with Rhona and open up about his feelings.

Will Marlon finally listen to his friend’s advice?

The arrival of PC Swirling brings a wave of dread to both Marlon and Rhona.

Their worst fears are realised when the officer asks them to sit before delivering the news that April has been found.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available from 7am on ITVX.

Soap's most harrowing teen storylines

We take a look at other harrowing teen soap storylines from soaps Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

Belle Dingle’s schizophrenia in Emmerdale – Belle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) traumatic journey in Emmerdale took a dark turn when, after accidentally killing her best friend Gemma at just 16, her mental health began to spiral.

The storyline, which saw Belle struggling with her grief and guilt, showcased her battle with hearing Gemma’s voice inside her head, leading to a dramatic decline in her well-being.

Hannah Ashworth’s anorexia in Hollyoaks – Viewers were horrified as they watched Hannah (Emma Rigby), a seemingly innocent teen, spiral into dangerous behavior, starving herself in an attempt to achieve what she thought was the ideal body.

As Hannah’s condition worsened, the storyline became more intense, culminating in her being hospitalised for two months as she fought for her life.

Bethany Platt’s grooming ordeal in Coronation Street – Vulnerable schoolgirl, played by Lucy Fallon, was at the centre of one of Corrie’s darkest storylines to date when she fell under the spell of her older boyfriend and sexual predator.

The controversial scenes saw Nathan groom and manipulate the 16-year-old before coercing her into sleeping with his friends, with one of them raping her.

Whitney Dean’s abuse from Tony in EastEnders – Since the age of 12, she had been in a twisted relationship with her stepmum Bianca’s boyfriend, Tony King. The predator had groomed young Whit (Shona McGarty), making her believe she was in love and planning to run away with him.

On her 16th birthday, the traumatised teen finally revealed the years of abuse to Bianca. Tony was swiftly sent to prison sentenced for 13 years.

I don’t desire to just have sex with anyone, says Danny Cipriani after split from actress girlfriend AnnaLynne McCord

DANNY CIPRIANI admitted he has no desire to “just have sex with anyone” anymore.

The rugby star, 37, recently split from actress girlfriend AnnaLynne McCord.

They pair dated for nine months – getting together soon after he split from his ex-wife Victoria Rose.

But now Cipriani insists he is “completely happy in myself” and not reliant on medication or sex to satisfy his craving desires.

The former England international’s struggles with his mental health and his rampant love life are well documented.

His long list of former partners includes Kelly Brook, Katie Price, Sophie Gradon, Kirsty Gallacher and Caroline Flack before tying the knot with Rose in 2021.

Tragically, both Gradon and Flack took their own lives and despite not being with either of them at the time, their deaths understandably took their toll on Cipriani.

But after long periods of processing his deep emotions and grief, he believes he is in a good place.

Cipriani – who retired from rugby last year – told The Times: “Caroline Flack’s death was one of the toughest moments for me.

“I was devastated. I spoke to my team-mates for an hour. I was crying.

“I stood up at the front and told everyone what I felt shameful about and all the things I was trying to hide, because we all share our pain.

“The gift she gave me was having to dive into my emotions in a way I hadn’t before. I hadn’t really cried or felt visceral feelings before.

“I had to suppress feelings. I had to take painkillers. There was so much going on in my life.

“Now, I’m completely happy in myself. I’m recognising that I don’t have a desire to take a painkiller or just have sex with anyone.

“When I was 22, I didn’t feel like tomorrow had any hope. It made me feel super-isolated and super-alone.

“Walking down the street, I’d see people look at me and that would make me automatically have negative thoughts in my mind.

“When I met my ex-wife, I was at the lowest point I’d been in my life. My value in myself was extremely low. I didn’t see myself in a loving light.

In the candid interview ahead of his appearance in Netflix’s Celebrity Bear Hunt, Cipriani also opened up on two other key moments in his life.

In 2013, the then-Sale Sharks star was hit by a double-decker bus on a night out in Leeds and ended up in hospital but thankfully avoided critical injuries.

Then in the summer of 2018 when he signed for Gloucester, he spent two nights in a cell and was charged with assault and resisting arrest following an incident with a cop after a “boozed-up nightclub row” – three years after a drink-driving charge when he crashed his £60,000 Mercedes into a taxi.

‘VERY FORTUNATE’

Cipriani said: “I remember the moment before I got hit by a bus. I was 25. When I looked to my left, it was there.

“My instinct was to jump — that’s probably why I survived the accident.

“It was very fortunate. God put his hand down to keep me on this earth.

“I spent two nights in a cell. It was a time to be with myself and refocus.

“My captain witnessed the whole thing. He told everyone, ‘I can’t believe what happened.’

“The whole team rallied behind me that year. It ended up being a really beautiful moment with my new team, and I got player of the season.”

Cipriani earned the first of his 16 England caps aged just 20 in 2008 but added that he is “happy” to be out of rugby as it has allowed his body to recover physically from relentless “discomfort”.

He cheerfully concluded: “It’s been awesome.”

Glastonbury fans convinced huge rock band will headline Other stage after spotting tour clues

GLASTONBURY fans are desperate to know which stars are taking to the stage this year – with one Scottish rock act notably becoming a favourite.

Biffy Clyro are expected to return this year with a new album, four years since their last effort, The Myth of the Happily Ever After.

And they’re already lined-up for a number of European festival appearances across the summer.

After it was announced they would be appearing at Glasgow’s TRNSMT Festival on July 12, fans took to Reddit to note that their tour does have space to appear at Glasto.

Taking to the site, one fan wrote: “Biffy have the headliner slot at TRNSMT and are touring some festivals in the summer. Would love to see them back at the farm! Thoughts?”

“Would be a brilliant other stage headliner. Think their catalogue is too big (and great) to not do a headline slot,” one replied.

“Could see a secret set slot or other stage headline this year if a new album is on the way, and then potentially making the jump to Headline the festival in 27/28? They’re surely capable of headlining outright now,” noted a second.

“Do Biffy have new music on the way? They’ve secured some incredible festival slots without releasing anything new for like 4 years,” wrote a third.

“I like them btw, almost their entire catalogue, it’s just quite unusual. An other headline would be great.”

Glastonbury is running from 25 to 29 June this year, with the official line-up still yet to be revealed in full.

The Sun previously revealed that pop icons Chappell Roan, Charli XCX and Olivia Rodrigo are all set to perform at Glastonbury next year.

They join The 1975, Stevie Wonder and Neil Young who are due to perform on the Pyramid Stage.

But it does fit in with Biffy’s announced availability, with the band kicking off performances in Europe, starting with Rock AM Ring on June 6 in Nuremberg, Germany.

They’ll then continue with performances in Czech Republic, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Austria before heading to Southside Festival which runs 20 to 22 June in Germany.

After that, there is no new announcements except for TRNSMT Festival.

Other line-up rumours currently include Scissor Sisters, legendary punk rocker Billy Idol, and The Maccabees.

Glastonbury 2025 - rumoured acts

THE Glastonbury line-up hasn't been confirmed - despite the fact tickets for the 2025 event sold out in minutes. Here are some rumoured acts.

Basement Jaxx sparked speculation they will be playing at Worthy Fam after leaving a “Glastonbury shaped gap” in their latest tour schedule.

It came after the hit duo announced their first live shows in 10 years – with gig-goers calling out a key “clue” in the order of their concert dates.

Yet acts including Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Eminem are rumoured to be in the mix.

Canadian songstress Alanis Morrisette and Simple Minds have also been tipped to take to the stage.

The event will run from Wednesday, June 25 to Sunday June 29 for 2025.
