Huge Coronation Street explosion leaves resident’s fate hanging in the balance as lifeless body is pulled from flames

A HUGE explosion looks set to rock Weatherfield with one resident’s fate left hanging firmly in the balance.

The Platt household will go up in smoke as devastation and destruction hits Coronation Street.

In dramatic scenes to be screened next week, a mystery figure pushed a lit rag through the letterbox of the Platt’s house.

Next door neighbour Sally Metcalfe soon smells the smoke and dashes to the Bistro to confirm to everyone that the house is on fire.

Fearing that Lily Platt may be trapped inside, Shona, Max and Nick head on in, in an attempt to rescue her from any harm.

Nick finds Toyah unconscious on the floor whilst Max and Shona head upstairs.

As it is later confirmed that Lily is safe and well, Shona goes back out on to the street to find David who had been AWOL.

However, it is now Max in grave danger as the teen finds himself trapped in the house amid the big blaze.

As David and Shona head back up the path, the whole entire house soon explodes.

But what will be the fate of Max?

Later, the fire engines and paramedics arrive on the scene with it being confirmed that Toyah suffered smoke inhalation whilst trapped inside and she needs to be raced to hospital.

She has also sustained a head wound and when Leanne arrives to check on her, Nick is left disgusted by her drunken state and sends her on her way.

Eventually, the firefighters discover Max’s lifeless body inside the house.

As they bundle him into an ambulance, David climbs in, distraught, as it appears that Max is just moments away from death.

When Shona quizzes David about the fire, he promises her he had nothing to do with it and he was with an old mate.

When PC Kit Green later confirms that it was in fact arson that caused the blaze, David becomes convinced that Logan is the one who is responsible for the fire.

But with some suspicions also pointing to Leanne after she was discovered with a box of matches in her bag, just who was the real culprit?

Soap's most harrowing teen storylines

We take a look at other harrowing teen soap storylines from soaps Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

Belle Dingle’s schizophrenia in Emmerdale – Belle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) traumatic journey in Emmerdale took a dark turn when, after accidentally killing her best friend Gemma at just 16, her mental health began to spiral.

The storyline, which saw Belle struggling with her grief and guilt, showcased her battle with hearing Gemma’s voice inside her head, leading to a dramatic decline in her well-being.

Hannah Ashworth’s anorexia in Hollyoaks – Viewers were horrified as they watched Hannah (Emma Rigby), a seemingly innocent teen, spiral into dangerous behavior, starving herself in an attempt to achieve what she thought was the ideal body.

As Hannah’s condition worsened, the storyline became more intense, culminating in her being hospitalised for two months as she fought for her life.

Bethany Platt’s grooming ordeal in Coronation Street – Vulnerable schoolgirl, played by Lucy Fallon, was at the centre of one of Corrie’s darkest storylines to date when she fell under the spell of her older boyfriend and sexual predator.

The controversial scenes saw Nathan groom and manipulate the 16-year-old before coercing her into sleeping with his friends, with one of them raping her.

Whitney Dean’s abuse from Tony in EastEnders – Since the age of 12, she had been in a twisted relationship with her stepmum Bianca’s boyfriend, Tony King. The predator had groomed young Whit (Shona McGarty), making her believe she was in love and planning to run away with him.

On her 16th birthday, the traumatised teen finally revealed the years of abuse to Bianca. Tony was swiftly sent to prison sentenced for 13 years.

Love Island fans convinced All Stars girl will quit villa after being embarrassed in ferocious row

LOVE Island fans are convinced one of the All Stars Islanders will quit the villa after being left embarrassed following a ferocious row.

On Sunday night Scott Thomas and Luca Bish almost came to blows, and their actions left one girl mortified.

Tina announced that she’s ‘going to withdraw’ after finding out Scott wasn’t ‘feeling it’ with her

It all started on Sunday night when tempers flared during a game of Truth Or Dare and Scott made a cryptic comment about Grace Jackson.

He said he had a truth he wanted to ask Grace – who is coupled up with Luca – but said he “didn’t want to say” it aloud.

Luca then snapped back at him and in retaliation blurted out that Scott was “not feeling it” with Tina, who he’s coupled up with.

This caused Tina to start crying and on last night’s episode she was heard telling Scott that she wanted to “withdraw” herself.

Fans are now convinced this means she will quit the villa, with one saying: “Is Tina leaving?”

Another added: “Poor Tina! Is she going to walk?”

This fan tweeted: “I think Tina has had enough.”

Tension reached fever pitch this week in the All Stars villa when Scott accused Luca of stirring the pot during a group challenge, which quickly escalated into a shouting match.

The gang were enjoying a Las Vegas-themed evening when it all kicked off during a roulette game of Truth Or Dare.

It landed on a truth for Grace, to which Scott muttered that he had one before refusing to say it ‘out of respect’ for Luca.

Luca instantly became annoyed and said: “Say it. If you want to go there, go there?”

Scott insisted: “Bro I’m being respectful to you.”

Love Island All Stars 2025 official line-up

Love Island All Stars is back on TV for season 2.

Here we take you through the line-up of all the Islanders who are in the villa so far.

Bombshells

Each series brings with it a string of hot single bombshells making their epic entrance into the villa.

Here’s who has joined the villa so far:

The islanders were then forced to intervene as the row escalated further.

Once calm, they tried to continue with the game, but it kicked off for a second time when Luca was dared to kiss the islander he thought ‘was there for fame’.

He kissed Scott on the cheek, saying he thinks he wants to get far in the villa.

Luca added: “That’s why you’re with Tina and you’re not feeling it now.”

Scott the erupted and the two men had a huge row.

Last night’s episode saw the fallout from the row continue, but Luca and Scott eventually made up.

Jeffrey Holland shot to fame when he starred in BBC classic Hi-de-Hi as fan-favourite Spike Dixon.

The actor played the character for nine series before the sitcom was brought to an end in 1988.

Holland also portrayed Private Walker in the Dad’s Army Stage Show, where he was first introduced to Jimmy Perry and David Croft, the creators of Hi-De-Hi.

Now 78, fans could get to see Jeffrey return to the small screen with a brand new sitcom.

In 2021 Jeffrey filmed a TV pilot with Craig Shepherd, his wife Judy Buxton, Ellie Blackburn, Lucy Appleton and Ryaan Ali.

Called ‘Simply Ken’, the show charts the life of a man who has lost everything, from his marriage, daughter, to even his washing machine.

However, four years on comedy fans have yet to see the creation – but Jeffrey is hopeful it will air.

Speaking to The Sun, Jeffrey said: “It’s been rewritten. It wasn’t commissioned.

“But it’s a work in progress. So we’re waiting now to hear if anyone’s going to pick it up.

“So we still might get to see it. Indeed, yes. Fingers crossed.”

Meanwhile, Jeffrey also revealed how TV bosses can save comedies and sitcoms that are ‘in decline’.

The TV legend said producers need to reintroduce live audiences, similar to Mrs Brown’s Boys.

Jeffrey Holland: The First Rule of Comedy is available from February.

Best BBC comedies

We look back at some of the best to ever grace the screen.

Fawlty Towers (1975-1979) – Only two series were made of the beloved institution. However, the cultural impact of the series starring John Cleese and Connie Booth spans decades. It follows rude and intolerant Basil Fawlty (Cleese) as he attempts to improve the reputation of his hotel.

Only Fools and Horses (1981-2003) – The show was crowned by some as the best British sitcom of all time by a TV poll in 2004. Seven series were broadcast on BBC until 1991 with additional sporadic Christmas specials airing until 2003. Sir David Jason starred as ambitious market trader Derek “Del Boy” Trotter whilst Nicholas Lyndhurst played his younger half-brother Rodney. Set in working-class Peckham in south-east London, it follows the highs and lows of the lives of the Trotters’, in particular their brazen attempts to get rich.

Blackadder (1983 – 1989) – Four series were made of the iconic show, created by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. Each series spans a different historical period as anti-hero Edmund Blackadder (Atkinson) tries to better himself in each society. Accompanied by his dogsbody Baldrick (Tony Robinson), trouble always ensues. A TV poll in 2004 found that Blackadder was voted the second-best British sitcom of all time

Absolutely Fabulous (1992 – 2012) – Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley star as failing PR guru Edina ‘Eddie’ Monsoon and alcoholic fashionista Patsy Stone. The pair embark on heavy-drinking sessions and abuse drugs in a desperate attempt to stay ‘hip’. Eddie constantly chases bizarre fads and fails to lose weight whilst her disappointed and neglected daughter Saffy (Julia Sawalha) looks on.

Little Britain (2003 – 2006) – The premise is simple. A sketch show which features different British people from all walks of life that are engaged in all sorts of comical scenarios. Starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams, the pair created iconic pop culture characters. Viewers loved obnoxious council estate teenager Vicky Pollard, morbidly obese scrounger Bubbles Devere, slimming coach Marjorie Dawes, despondent office worker Carol Beer, disgraced politician Sir Norman Fry, of course the iconic Lou and Andy!

The Catherine Tate Show (2004-2015) – A sketch show starring the likes of Catherine Tate. She made iconic characters such as rowdy schoolgirl Lauren Cooper with her line ‘Am I bovvered?’. Other characters featured Bernie the nurse, the aga saga woman, complaining couple Janice and Ray, and of course her infamous ‘Nan’, Joannie Taylor. The last character herself spawned multiple specials and even a movie.

Gavin and Stacey (2007 – Present) The series tells the story of Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page). The pair embarked on an online and telephone romance for six months. But when they finally decide to be together properly, their friends and family get in the way. Ruth Jones and James Corden created the beloved show, which has been going for over a decade. The 2019 Christmas special was the most-watched comedy in 17 years and the most-viewed non-sporting event in a decade.

Everyone thinks my family-of-12 is a CULT – even doctors ask about it, my husband might be 62 but we want more kids

A COUPLE have revealed that everyone thinks their family-of-12 is a cult.

Despite people’s judgements, Mitch, 62, and Chela, 40, who already have ten children, are eager to expand their family further.

Whilst Chela’s husband Mitch, might be 52, the lovers are eager to expand their brood, despite what their close family members might think[/caption]

The Australian couple, who met after Mitch was singing in a restaurant, dress themselves and their kids the same and are constantly stared at when they go out in public.

Not only do their family question their desire to want more children, but even doctors have asked about them being a cult too.

Opening up to Truly, on an episode of My Extraordinary Family, the parents-of-10, who are known online as ‘The Rodey Bunch’ shared all on what it’s like to have so many children.

When asked if they always wanted a big family, Mitch said: “I just went with the flow. Twins came first. And after that third, fourth, fifth, sixth. Just ball kept rolling, and I just kept on bowling.”

The couple are now parents to Orial and Chena, 16-year-old twins, Chelece, 15, Chala, 13, Orien, 12, Orisen, 10, Chanay, eight, Chalay, six, Chandelle, four, and Asrial, two.

The family colour co-ordinate every day, as one of the 10 kids expressed: “Colour co-ordinating is an every day thing for us.”

To this, another youngster chimed in: “We enjoy it.”

Mitch is also a fan of their matching clothes, as he beamed: “It just looked so good, you know? I mean, it’s like an entourage.

“Whenever we go to a shopping centre or something like that, everyone looks. It’s not that we want the attention, but that’s what happens.”

The couple share their family’s life on social media and despite receiving a lot of encouragement, they have also found themselves subject to relentless negativity.

The mum-of-10 confessed: “The challenges with having a big family are probably more the outside people. You get treated differently. We get plenty of attention, too much I think.”

Mitch then chimed in: “Even the doctors, when you were having the last child, we were in the hospital, [and they asked] ‘Are you guys a cult?’”

The world's biggest families

The Vassilyev family

This family currently holds the record for the most children a couple has parented, after the matriarch gave birth to 69 children, including 16 pairs of twins and seven sets of triplets.

Mrs. Vassilyev has given birth to a total of 69 children, including 16 pairs of twins and 7 sets of triplets. 67 of the 69 children survived infancy.

The Radfords

Sue and Noel are parents to 22 children, and their hectic family life is documented in reality show 22 Kids and Counting.

The pair have remained adamant that they won’t be having any more kids, but the amount of grandchildren they have is ever expanding, with daughters Sophie and Millie both mums of three.

The Duggars

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have 19 children – 10 sons and nine daughters.

All of their children’s names begin with the letter J.

They also had their own reality show in the United States, and became household names because of it.

The Bates family

Kelly also has 19 children, with her husband Gil Bates.

Of 19 deliveries, 14 of them were natural.

The couple also have 28 grandchildren, with four more on the way.

The Dougherty Dozen

Mum Alicia frequently shares videos and pictures of her family.

She and husband Josh have four biological children together, as well as adopting or fostering the rest of their brood.

The Rosario family

Yalancia and husband Michael are parents of 11.

They had their first daughter together earlier this year, and are also parents to Jamel, 15, Michael Jr, 11, Angelo, 10, Gimani, seven, Armani, six, Sincere, three and Khaza, two.

Their fourth son, also named Armani, was stillborn.

The couple, who described their family as “live entertainment” and would like to have more children, spend $3,000-$4,000 [Australian dollars – £1,500-£2,000] a month on groceries and drive around in a huge 14-seater van.

Chela confessed: “Yes we would like to have more children. We’re definitely trying. We did try to have another one but that ended in a miscarriage”, to which Mitch added: “It’s just a matter of time.”

You get treated differently. We get plenty of attention, too much I think

Chela

But it appears that Chela’s mum Susi might not be as on board with the couple expanding their brood, as she called them “crazy” for wanting more kids, to which Chela replied: “Why not? The more the merrier.”

But shocked Susi snapped: “By the time that baby’s 20, you’re going to be an old man.”

Social media users react

YouTube users were left shocked by the couple’s large family and many eagerly flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.

One person said: “I wouldn’t call them a cult but I would call them a real world version of Cheaper by the Dozen.”

Another added: “They constantly look like they are going on a field trip dressing in the same colours.”

A third commented: “The matching outfits are cringy!”

Meanwhile, someone else wrote: “Amazing and special family.”

Whilst another chimed in: “They are happy, healthy, and managing fine. Looks like they have at least 4 responsible young women to help with the young ones. It’s fun that the kids choose to dress alike. Dude looks awesome for 62.”

Inside Princess Kate’s secret recovery breaks at £4.7m 18-acre manor with a pool, tennis & games nights with Carole

FOLLOWING her chemotherapy treatment last year, Princess Kate has confirmed she is now in remission.

When she wasn’t resting in Windsor, the Princess of Wales, 43, is said to have spent some of her recovery last year at parents Carole and Michael Middleton’s £4.2million countryside pad.

Bucklebury Manor is located in Berkshire, which is around a 45 minute drive from Kate’s home with Prince William, Adelaide Cottage, so was handy for the royal mum-of-three.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward told Fabulous: “The Middleton house is gorgeous.

“I think it is an old manor house. It’s got a lot of grounds. I think it’s got its own stream going through it.

“Tennis courts, I mean, typically Middleton. They’ve made it absolutely gorgeous.

“Bucklebury is a really, really pretty place to be.

“It’s got great avenues of oak trees, so yes, I can imagine that Kate would have a great time there, and she’s got her mum to look after her as well.”

Carole and Michael bought Bucklebury Manor in 2012 and it has a number of impressive features.

Perfect for Kate’s recovery, the grade-II listed Georgian property boasts seven bedrooms, five reception rooms – including a drawing room and library – and 18 acres of land complete with a tennis court and outdoor swimming pool.

Ingrid added: “The Middletons are very, a very tight knit family, and they all seem to support each other, which is how Kate was brought up, which is probably why she’s so stable and able to deal with whatever life throws at her, and I think they all get together, and they play games like a very old fashioned family they’ve got.

“They play tennis. They swim.

“They’re very, very sporty, but of course Kate wouldn’t have been able to be very sporty, so I think she just would have played a lot of sort of family games and been in the bosom of the family, and I think we saw a bit of it in the video that Kate and William put out last summer.

“I think that is very much Kate’s home life which she’s, you know, tried to recreate in her own life.”

It was reported Kate also popped home to Bucklebury Manor when she was suffering from  hyperemesis gravidarum (extreme pregnancy sickness).

With such a beautiful home, it would understandably be hard to pick a favourite feature, but Carole revealed that their kitchen is a focal feature.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Kate’s mum said: “It’s a kitchen/dining/sitting room and it’s the heart of the house. I love a kitchen supper.

“Where I have a small number of guests. I’ll cook something delicious and make it look lovely, then we’ll finish with a kitchen disco.”

The Princess of Wales revealed she is now in remission during a solo trip to Royal Marsden Hospital in which she thanked staff for her “exceptional” care.

She said: “I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year.

“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more.

“The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.

Princess Kate's parent's humble beginnings

MICHAEL and Carole do not have any type of royal title, despite Michael being descended from the landed gentry.

Carole had a modest upbringing, being born and raised in a council flat in Southall, London and was the daughter of a sales assistant and a builder-decorator.

The couple met while they were working for British Airways as ground crew.

In 1987 the Middletons launched their own business, Party Pieces, after Carole realised she could make some money from creating party bags.

After growing the firm into a multi-million-pound business, Party Pieces was badly hit by Covid restrictions and in April 2023, the company called in advisers at restructuring firm Interpath to try to raise fresh funds for the business.

However, the family decided to move on from the company and in May 2023 the business sold in a pre-package deal to the Essex-based entrepreneur James Sinclair.

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.

“I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”

Kate revealed last March in an emotional video statement that she had cancer – just weeks after the King shared his diagnosis.

This month, The Sun revealed Kate planned a “gradual return” to front-line duties with royal fans warned not to expect the same “volume of work” as before her health crisis.

Poignant meaning behind Kate Middleton’s five-strand pearl necklace on Holocaust Memorial Day

PRINCESS Kate paid tribute to Holocaust survivors last night in an emotional reception with Prince William.

As she reunited with survivors of the Nazi campaign, the Princess of Wales, 43, chose to wear a poignant piece of jewellery.

The royal mum-of-three wore a pair of pearl earrings, that belonged to the Queen, and a five-strand pearl necklace.

White pearls are the jewellery that is officially worn during the mourning period by the family.

They are often referred to as “mourning jewellery”, and this dates back to Queen Victoria’s reign.

Following the death of her husband Prince Albert, Queen Victoria famously wore black for 40 years in tribute.

The only jewellery she wore was black or colourless, and strands of pearls were a frequent feature.

The pearls were thought to be symbolic of tears, according to The Telegraph.

The tradition has continued among the royal family over the years, including at the funeral of the late Queen and Prince Philip.

Leslie Field, the author of The Queen’s Jewels, told PEOPLE: “Pearls are traditional for Queens going back one thousand years- there has never been a Queen who didn’t wear pearls.

“They were rare, beautiful and lustrous and the more you wear them, the more lustrous they become.”

By Kate choosing to wear pearls, you could have been commemorating and showing respect for the millions of people who died in the Holocaust.

Yesterday’s event marked the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

During the reception, Kate embraced Holocaust survivors, including around 50 individuals who had endured the Nazi regime and subsequent genocides.

She also had a heartfelt reunion with Yvonne Bernstein and Stephen Frank – two Holocaust survivors she had photographed in 2020 as part of a project commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

For the occasion, Kate looked elegant in a black coat paired with black wide-leg trousers and a black sweater.

During the reception at London’s Guildhall, Kate was seen catching up with Yvonne, with the two women holding hands as they spoke. Yvonne stroked the Princess’s arm and thanked her for attending.

Kate greeted the 87-year-old warmly, saying: “It’s so nice to see you.”

After learning that Yvonne had faced some recent health challenges, Kate added: “You’ve had such a hard time, haven’t you?”

In 2024, Kate underwent chemotherapy but has now revealed that she is in remission following her cancer battle.

She has been “forever changed” by her cancer treatment, according to a royal expert.

Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl shared on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show: “She did a lot of running up and down the country, juggling that with the three children doing the overseas tours.

“People would be quite surprised to learn just how hands on William and Catherine are as parents.

“And I think this is just, well, it’s a wake up call, isn’t it?

“This is a real reality check for her.”
