Growth won’t come without a fight, vows Reeves as she doubles down on Labour bid to boost economy after tax hike Budget
GROWTH will not come without a “fight”, Rachel Reeves declared in a major speech today.
The Chancellor vowed to “take the right decisions now to change our country’s future” as she set out a major economic reset.
In Oxfordshire the Chancellor said: “Low growth is not our destiny but growth will not come without a fight.
“Britain’s potential has been held back for too long. We have accepted low expectations, stagnation and the risk of decline. We can do so much better.
“We are at the forefront of some of the most exciting developments in the world like artificial intelligence and life sciences. We have great companies, delivering jobs and investment in Britain.
“And we have fundamental strengths — in our history, our language, and our legal system — to compete in a global economy.”

Yesterday The Sun revealed Manchester United’s plans for a 100,000-seater mega-stadium will “generate growth” to the tune of £7billion every year.
Ms Reeves gave the residential, transport and entertainment development at Old Trafford the green light as part of her speech today.
Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also keen for government support for stadium developments.
The Chancellor also backed a new rail link from Oxford to Cambridge, which will add an estimated £78billion to the economy over the next decade.
And she promised to take on Britain’s over-inflated welfare bill, which has continued ballooning as more and more people claim health and disability benefits.
Ms Reeves also announced a £65m investment for Connected Curb, to expand their electric vehicle charging network across the UK.
And she revealed a £28m equity investment in Cornish metals, providing the raw materials to be used in solar panels.

The 18-year-old has since crashed out of two semi-finals in Bahrain and the Netherlands over the last two weeks.
Despite his early exits from the first two tournaments of 2025, Littler has resumed his normal teenage life.
And part of that routine involves gaming online with his pals and streaming it for fans to watch-along.
On Tuesday evening, he treated viewers to an impassioned celebration as he emerged victorious in popular footie game EAFC 25.
Littler appeared focused on his computer screen during a TikTok livestream, before saving his opponent’s final penalty to earn him the win.
He then jumped up from his seat and screamed: “Get in! Cmon! Woo!” while fist pumping towards the camera before sitting back down.
One fan who posted a clip of the incident joked: ‘Luke Littler just celebrated more saving a penalty on FUT Champs than he did winning £500,000 from the darts.”

When he defeated Van Gerwen in the World Championship, Littler was overcome with emotion on stage.
He quickly burst into tears after sealing the record-breaking win for the youngest-ever darts world champ.
While he’s best known for his impressive displays at the oche, Littler is no stranger to the world of livestreaming.
He was spotted enjoying a game of Fifa on his 18th birthday last week and hours after exiting the Bahrain Darts Masters after a 6-2 defeat to Rob Cross.
Littler is back in action at the Winmau World Masters in Milton Keynes on Thursday.

Nepo baby, 25, with Hollywood A-lister mum and actor dad stuns at Paris Fashion Week – can you guess her famous parents?
A NEPO-BABY with Hollywood movie star parents has taken her share of the limelight at Paris Fashion Week.
The New Orleans-born beauty, who has often been dubbed her actress mother’s “identical twin”, looked fresh-faced as she attended an event hosted by Christian Dior.

She also switched up her hair colour from her signature to blonde – which made her almost identical to mum Reese Witherspoon – to brunette, leaving her style in natural waves.
The model, who is a Global Brand Ambassador and face of Vince Camuto’s Wonderbloom fragrance, kept her make-up fresh to let her natural beauty shine through.
Ava will no doubt have been given a boost on the guestlist to the swanky event courtesy of her Legally Blonde star mum and dad, Hollywood actor Ryan Phillippe.
The star works as a influencer and artists in addition to her modelling career, which again will have been helped by her celebrity connections.
She has modelled for the likes of Ivy Park and Reese’s clothing company Draper James as well as starring in previous Dior campaigns.
Ava, whose younger brother is Deacon, previously spoke out about the support of her parents.
Reese and Ryan met in 1997 and started working together on the movie Cruel Intentions two years later.
They married in June 1999 in Charleston.
Previously, UC Berkeley graduate Ava told Daily Pop: “My parents have always encouraged me to choose the path that’s right for me and, you know, guide me along the way to make better choices than I might make.
“I’m so grateful for that.
“That is such a privilege to have parents that support you in that way and want you to be who you truly are meant to be.”
OPENING UP
Ava has no doubt learned a lot from her famous parents – and recently opened up about her beauty mantra.
She told how it was passed down from her mum and helped her “glow from within.”
What is a Nepo Baby?
A ‘nepo baby’ is a colloquial term used to describe individuals who have gained opportunities or success in their careers primarily due to familial connections or the influence of their well-known or wealthy parents, rather than solely through their own talent, skills, or efforts.
The term ‘nepo’ is short for ‘nepotism’, which refers to favouritism granted to relatives or close friends, often in a professional context.
Key Characteristics:
- Inherited advantage: Nepo babies often benefit from their family’s established reputation, wealth, or industry connections.
- Access to networks: They typically have easier access to influential networks and resources within their chosen field.
- Public perception: The term can carry a negative connotation, implying that their success is not entirely merit-based.
Industries Affected:
- Entertainment: Many actors, musicians, and other performers are often labeled as nepo babies if they have famous parents.
- Business: Individuals who inherit or are given significant roles in family-owned businesses.
- Politics: Politicians who follow in the footsteps of their parents or other relatives.
Examples:
- Children of famous actors who become actors themselves.
- Heirs to business empires who assume executive roles.
- Offspring of political figures who enter public office.
The concept of nepo babies is often debated, with some arguing that it undermines the notion of meritocracy.
Meanwhile, others believe that it is natural for families to support and help each other succeed.
“A big saying in the South, especially amongst women is, ‘Pretty is as pretty does,'” Ava shared with People.
“You’re only as beautiful as you treat other people,” the brand ambassador said.
“I find that beauty is really subjective, but what’s not is being kind and being open and treating people with respect,” she said.
“I think that you glow from within when you’re a good person.”
