‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Might Bring Back the Most Complicated Villain of the Series but Not Without Facing Consequences

One of the most iconic parts of the Castlevania games is that Dracula always returns. Even after the Belmont family fights tooth and nail to defeat the vampire, he comes back to terrorize humanity all over again. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Castlevania: Nocturne follows the same route.

While Drolta Tzuente is the main antagonist of the first two seasons of Castlevania: Nocturne, Dracula could be the potential one for season 3 or a new spin-off series. The Netflix adaptation has immense potential for several Castlevania stories.

Dracula is also undeniably a fan favorite of both video game and Netflix series fans. However, if Castlevania: Nocturne were to introduce him into the storyline, they’d have to tread lightly and write it in a way that makes sense.

How will Castlevania: Nocturne bring Dracula back if they decide to do this?

Dracula’s death was a point of victory in Castlevania but also brought on a lot of emotions. All we could see was a broken man who lost his way in the cycle of violence. He could’ve been a great father to Alucard if he wasn’t so driven by it, but even he knew he was too far gone.

Samuel and Adam Deats know how to write a nuanced villain. There have been many interpretations of Dracula but none this tragic and melancholy. Fans of Castlevania have come to sympathize with him after witnessing his past and his last words to Alucard.

Nonetheless, being a fan favorite doesn’t mean the character has to return. Dracula, however, is special. We know he and Lisa were revived at the end of Castlevania. So, yes, there is a chance for him to appear. The only question is will he be evil again or will he be a reformed man?

A Reddit forum brought up the idea of Dracula returning to Castlevania: Nocturne or in other spin-offs while keeping in mind that there are other potential villains to introduce. The comments offered what they would like to see should the vampire come back.

Dracula’s possible return in Castlevania: Nocturne is a thrilling prospect. However, it was clear in the first series’ ending that the vampire wanted to live peacefully with his wife, away from the violence. Bringing him back as anything but a reformed character would be a waste of a tragic backstory.

Who else could be the next villain of Castlevania: Nocturne?

Fans might be forgetting that before the Netflix adaptation, there was the Castlevania video game franchise. With it, several other potential villains that aren’t Dracula could be introduced in Season 3 of Castlevania: Nocturne.

At the end of Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2, Tera is seen smiling at the execution of several people. It’s implied she has given in to her darker instincts as a vampire.

If not Tera, fans believe the Castlevania video game character, Shaft, might be the next villain. He was a dark priest and a loyal servant of Dracula. Some believe he was the Bishop from Castlevania who would turn into Shaft later.

The most anticipated out of them all is Old Man Coyote. He’s a trickster figure the vampire, Olrox, has mentioned quite a few times. He is also referred to as Mephistopheles. He’s shrouded in mystery, and some speculate he could be a demon. We’ll just have to wait and see what the Deats brothers have in store.

Castlevania: Nocturne is available on Netflix.
