‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Director: ‘That’s the truth of our filmmaking’ on Harrison Ford’s Diva Behavior Allegations by Unnamed Marvel Crew Member

Captain America: Brave New World released on February 14th, after building the hype for almost three years. Thankfully for fans, Anthony Mackie’s performance more than made their wait worthwhile. Harrison Ford, too, seems to have knocked it out of the park with his Marvel debut at 82.

Interestingly, though, just a day before the movie’s release an anonymous source claimed that although the movie turned out well enough, they actually had no hopes for it on set.

A huge reason behind that was Harrison Ford’s alleged diva behavior on the Captain America 4 set which made their work that much harder. The movie’s director Julius Onah recently responded to those allegations, and his cryptic wording seems to have confused the fans even more.

Captain America: Brave New World’s director defended Harrison Ford against diva allegations

Although the movie earned some mixed reviews at first, it seems like fans’ appreciation for Captain America: Brave New World continues to grow with each day. Interestingly, as per a Vulture report, the movie’s reception came as quite a surprise, as a source claimed that nobody expected the film to be good.

While the movie going through major reshoots was a part of the reason behind their hopelessness, Harrison Ford’s alleged difficult behavior added to that.

Harrison Ford was one of the crankiest performers I ever dealt with. Which was sad. I’m a fan. But he was very much a diva.

Furthermore, the source also claimed that Ford allegedly had low patience for all the machinations playing the Red Hulk put him through. Hence everybody had to “scramble to make him happy”.

Inevitably, the news spread like wildfire with many adding their own two cents of speculation. Putting all those to rest, though, Captain America: Brave New World’s director Julius Onah recently spoke to Variety on the matter.

He noted that he could only speak for himself and how his experience was working with the Hollywood legend. As per Onah, the Indiana Jones star maintained professionalism above all else. However, he also added that there may have been times when things got heated on set.

He was an utter professional. He is a guy who’s incredibly serious and passionate about the work. The creative process is one where you have these really meaningful and, at times, passionate conversations, but it was always working towards a target where we were making the best version of the film possible.

He also noted that he thought Ford gave a “phenomenal performance” in the film. The director  also expressed his gratitude for getting to work with someone like the Blade Runner star in the interview, stating that he “learned so much from him”.

The entire cast has nothing but love and respect for him, and the crew as well. That’s the experience I had in the making of this film, and that’s the truth of what our filmmaking was on set.

Although it seems like Onah had nothing but praises for Harrison Ford, his ambiguous wording for the filming process has only added to the fans’ confusion.

While many seem to take Julius Onah on his word, others speculate that maybe there’s more to it that he neither wanted to confirm nor deny. For now, though, Onah seemed adamant about his stance on Ford. If anything, he seemed to be in awe of the veteran actor.

Captain America: Brave New World’s director praised Harrison Ford’s acting skills

Captain America: Brave New World explores Harrison Ford’s character Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross slipping back into his old habits. His own terrible temper, combined with the Red Hulk’s rage was bound to send him rampaging in the world.

The process of getting there, though, was tricky as it entailed the character suffering through panic attacks. For Julius Onah, this was exactly where the Star Wars star’s true mastery came out.

He stated in the interview that he and Ford went over it together to figure out how to best portray Thunderbolt’s character arc in the movie. Something Ford was “committed” to do.

We talked about what the physicality of that would look like, how that rage would emanate. Harrison, what’s great about him is you have these conversations, and then he finds it in the moment, in the scene, what feels organic when he’s in that space. So it was prep and then trusting the man — of course, how can you not trust Harrison Ford?

To be fair, although fans had been disappointed about Harrison Ford’s screen time in the movie, they also agreed that his performance had been magnificent.

As such, fans seem happy about the fact that not only Mackie could prove his worth with the movie, but even Ford marked a new height in his career even at that age.
