Candice Bergen’s husband, Marshall Rose, died at age 88 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.

An online obituary for Rose shared that he “died peacefully at home in the early hours” of Saturday, February 15, and was “surrounded by loved ones.”

“After many years of extraordinary strength and resilience, he passed from complications with Parkinson’s disease,” the obituary read. “He is survived by his wife Candice; his children Wendi and Andrew; his step-daughter Chloe; and his grandchildren Alexander, Clio, Ell, Milo, Arthur, and Alice. He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Jean, his brother Robert, and his late wife Jill.”

A funeral for Rose is set to take place on Tuesday, February 18. In lieu of flowers, the obituary asked for donations to the New York Public Library, an institution that Rose “loved so dearly.”

‘Miss Congeniality’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

“A dedicated father and grandfather, Marshall had high expectations for those around him. As a doting dogfather to his beloved goldendoodle Jerry, he instilled similarly high expectations,” the obituary read. “His family carries on his legacy of fierce compassion, stubborn persistence, and commitment to cheering on the Knicks. His wisdom, strength, and generosity of spirit will be remembered by the countless people whose lives he touched.”

Bergen, 78, tied the knot with Rose in 2000. She was previously married to filmmaker Louis Malle from 1980 until his death in 1995. (The pair shared one daughter, Chloe Malle.)

In a conversation with her Miss Congeniality costar Sandra Bullock in 2015, Bergen reflected on her relationship with Rose, noting that she and Rose exchanged vows the same year that the film was released.

Sandra Bullock’s Complete Dating History

“We had just gotten married! We started shooting when our honeymoon was supposed to happen,” Bergen told Interview magazine at the time, to which Bullock, 60, replied, “We were on that location on the stage. He was there — I don’t know what we were doing — but I remember looking across, and you were giddy. It was the sweetest thing. He was so demonstrative with you. He was, like, touching your face, saying goodbye or something, [Bergen laughs] and the affection, the sweetness … We were all on the other side of the stage, a little bitter. We were all going, ‘Wow. We have nothing. We have absolutely nothing.’”

When asked whether Bergen had other career aspirations, she replied that she’s “not that ambitious” before giving a sweet shout-out to Rose.

“I’m always grateful when I get offered something that engages me, it’s for the right amount of time, and I don’t have to leave my husband for more than a week or two. That’s really all I ask,” Bergen reflected. “This last year, I’ve gotten to do a few really interesting things that intrigued me, and I worked hard. The work is really fun and rewarding when you put the time in.”
