Capt Tom’s daughter sorry if public ‘feel misled’ over £1.5m she made from charity & insists she did ‘nothing dishonest’

CAPTAIN Sir Tom Moore’s daughter has said she’s sorry if people “feel misled” over the charity set up in the Covid hero’s name.

World War Two veteran Captain Tom inspired the nation by raising £38.9million for the NHS during the pandemic lockdown in 2020.

He walked laps of his garden in Bedfordshire before passing away the following year aged 100 from the virus itself.

His family went on to set up the Captain Tom Foundation to support “causes close to [his] heart”.

It was directed by his daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore, 54, and her husband Colin Ingram-Moore, 67.

It comes as reported by The Sun earlier this week, disgraced Mrs Ingram-Moore plans to release a new book about coping with death.

The charity came under scrutiny after a damning report by the Charity Commission last November.

It revealed the couple had pocketed around £1.5million and benefited “significantly” through association to the foundation.

The watchdog found there were misleading suggestions the proceeds from a £1.4million book deal would be made to the charity.

This included Captain Tom’s autobiography Tomorrow Will Be A Good Day.

It also said the couple had twice been invited to “rectify matters” by donating money to the charity “in line with their original intentions as understood by those involved” but had “declined to do so”.

Speaking out for the first time since the inquiry, Mrs Ingram-Moore told the BBC “there was never any intent to mislead”, adding: “If there was any misleading it wasn’t our doing.”

She said her dad was of “very sound mind” and had wanted to ensure his loved ones “lived well” after his death with the pandemic having but pressure on their business.

Mrs Ingram-Moore went on to explain the family took £800,000 from the book deal, though most of this was eaten up in legal costs.

However, publisher Penguin and promoter Carver PR told the BBC the family said part of the autobiography’s advance would be used to finance the foundation.

A press release about the memoir also stated money would be going to the charity.

Mrs Ingram-Moore said they have already made a donation but declined to reveal the exact amount.

“Do you know what I don’t think that’s the right thing to do,” she said.

“I don’t think its helpful now for me to put another number out because that is the number everyone will talk about.

“There is nothing dishonest about what happened. The book said it would support the launch and it did,” she added.

The Charity Commission report found the foundation had given grants amounting to £160,000 to four charities and spent over £162,000 on management fees during the same period.

It also raised concerns about deals with Virgin Media worth £28,000.

It found a “repeated pattern of behaviour” relating to the couple’s private gains.

Mrs Ingram-Moore said it would’ve cost too much money to challenge the report’s findings.

The Commission had already banned her from being a trustee or holding a senior management role in any charity in England or Wales for a decade, and Mr Ingram-Moore was struck off for eight years.

The couple were also ordered to demolish a luxury spa that had built in their grounds using the Captain Tom Foundation charity name.

Charity Commission's findings into Hannah Ingram-Moores

LAST month, a 30-page report was published, following a two-year inquiry.

It found the Ingram-Moores carried out repeated instances of misconduct.

These included:

  • “disingenuous” statements from Mrs Ingram-Moore about not being offered a six-figure sum to become the charity’s CEO
  • a misleading implication that donations from book sales would be made to the foundation
  • no evidence to support Mrs Ingram-Moore’s claims she attended an awards ceremony in a personal capacity, for which she was paid £18,000
  • The couple used the foundation’s name in an initial planning application for an illegal spa pool block at their home

Explosive E4 dating show signs up controversial Big Brother star and viral video sensation – who looks unrecognisable

EXPLOSIVE dating show Love Triangle is returning very soon – and this time features a controversial Big Brother star and viral video sensation.

The E4 show, which first aired back in April last year, is now returning for 10 hour-long episodes and will serve up a raft of fresh twists, turns and surprises, as six new singles embark on one of TV’s most unpredictable romantic roller coasters.

The cast for the new series has just dropped and it features influencer Ryan Ruckledge, who first emerged to fame on Big Brother and The X Factor.

The 32-year-old tanning business owner found love with fellow housemate Hughie Maughan in the 2016 series of Big Brother.

The pair went on to get engaged and moved in together in Ryan’s hometown Blackpool, before calling off their four-year romance in 2020 amid the pandemic.

Discussing what he asked for in a match on the new show, Ryan said: “I’ll be completely honest, I asked for a Scouser, a builder, tanned, turkey teeth and a cheeky personality.

“Whether I got that or not, you’ll have to find out. I am very particular. I just wanted a fit Scouser. Someone who can rag me around the bedroom.”

Before joining the Big Brother cast, the reality veteran was already known for being rude to Simon Cowell and the judges on The X Factor and boasting about taking tanning tablets on This Morning.

The second cast member is Danny Andrews, who is most known for being the fish and rice cake guy from 18 years ago.

Danny, now 35, first appeared on the BBC Three documentary Baby Faced Bodybuilders back in 2006 when he was a young 17-year-old.

He instantly became a meme after he revealed his methods for staying in tip-top shape, including an extreme diet of fish and rice cakes.

When asked about his diet, Danny replied: ‘Eight o’clock in the morning, I’ll have fish and a rice cake. At 10 o’clock, I’ll have fish. At 12 o’clock, I’ll have fish and a rice cake…’

Danny, who is now a barbershop owner, looks unrecognisable these days.

When asked why he’s joining the show, he said: “I’m looking to start a family, so someone whowants to settle down. Someone who is kind, caring and funny. Someone I can spend the rest of my life with. And someone who can laugh at my joke.”

Giving us a hint about what’s to come, the 35-year-old said: “Wow, this series of Love Triangle is simply wow. Explosive. Full of drama. Full of amazing romance. That’s all I’m going to say.”

The programme sees six singletons (the pickers) who text two potential lovers and then have to pick one for a blind date.

Things move fast on the show as they move in together, however they have no idea the other person they were texting moves in later on.

At the end of the series the picker has to choose who they want to be with out of the love triangle.

The show first launched in Australia and was developed by the people behind Married At First Sight, so it has all the right ingredients for success.

Other Love Triangle cast members

The show will see 29-year-old Yolanda feature on the show.

Yolanda, who is a Mel B impersonator, said: “I signed up because my dating life is dire. I am married to my career. I Inever have time to date so I thought I’ll put it in someone else’s hands and hopefully I’ll find what I’ve been looking for!”

Sharing what she doesn’t like in a man, Yolanda said: “Arrogance and over-obnoxious energy. If you’re going to be rude and take me on a roller coaster I don’t want to ride, then it’s not for me.”

Chlo, 27, from Rhondda Valley, Wales, is a Marketing Manager, and said her biggest ick is “if we were to go to a restaurant, to be rude to wait staff. It’s so off-putting, and I haven’t got time for people like that.”

Sharing her type, she said: “It’s a simple want list. Tattoos, dad bod, worktrousers. They are my preferences. It is something I keep going for and gravitating towards back home.

“For my perfect match, there would be more to it; someone ambitious, someone who appreciates their own space and time and someone who is a nice person with a nice personality–someone who I would want to be around.”

Asa, 29, from Chatham, is a Care Recruiter who is after someone who is “calm” and “compassionate”.

He adds: “ Someone who shared all the same values. Someone who wanted to settle down. Someone active and keeps themselves busy and likes the outdoors

Shannon, 29, from Dundee, is a Charity Ambassador and cancer survivor

She said: “After everything I’ve been through in my life, I’ve had a lot of loss and gone through the biggest battle which was stage four cancer. So, I wanted to find someone to start my new chapter with, to find love and settle down with

“I was looking for someone compassionate, caring and funny. Good teeth were the priority! A gentleman–someone with a kind heart and soul”

Love Triangle returns Monday, March 10 at 9pm on E4.

Michael Conlan makes honest admission about self-doubt during his long road back to the ring

MICK CONLAN jumped back in the ring after his longest spell away from boxing and wondered, ‘Who’s that?’

But the question wasn’t about his sparring partner that day – but about himself.

The 33-year-old seriously considered quitting the sport after his last loss

After two stoppage defeats in 2023, to Luis Alberto Lopez for the world title and Jordan Gill in his comeback, that looked to be that for the London 2012 bronze medallist.

In his time away, he ran a marathon, worked behind the scenes in boxing and seriously considered calling it quits.

By the time he dipped his toe back in the water with a new trainer, Grant Smith, he found that the habit of a lifetime had deserted him.

Conlan told The Rocky Road podcast: “I’ll be honest, after a year out of the ring, my first seven to ten spars, I was absolutely terrible. I was like, ‘have I forgotten how to box?’

“Grant says, ‘Mick, I understand you’ve not been in the ring so long. Don’t worry about it. It’s gonna come, it’s gonna come’.

“I was like, ‘I don’t know if it’s gonna f***ing come here. What’s happening?’

“It was like my timing, my distance and everything, and I was going, ‘where is my boxing brain going here?’

“But then everything started to come back. I’m like, oh, ‘there I am. There I am. I’m still here. I’m still here. I still know what I’m doing’.

“And everything’s starting to fall into place now, which is good.

The pair have worked together since mid-2024, with Conlan’s comeback set for Friday March 7 against India’s Asad Asif Khan (19-5-1).

Smith, dad of European 140lb champ Dalton, runs a right ship in England’s Steel City and has demanded the Full Monty from the Belfast man as he prepares for his comeback.

Conlan added: “Yeah, I’m basically living here in Sheffield.

“It’s a great gym. Grant is a great coach, but also as a human being, he’s a very good man. I really like it.

“It’s brought the spark back in me of boxing. I’ve been here since end of September, start of October, and I’ve had plenty of time working together now.

“With my last coach Pedro Diaz, we were only together for basically six weeks of training.

“I’m feeling good physically, mentally. I’ve cleared a lot of s*** going on in my personal life, and I’m happy.”

While a happy fighter is a dangerous fighter, Conlan says Smith puts him on edge, too.

The 2015 world amateur champ added: “I respect him, his morals and his stance on boxing, how he looks after his fighters.

“He’s always got the fighters’ best interests at heart. And also, he’s the only one really pulling me up on mistakes.

“And I was like, ‘I know I make these mistakes, so I’m glad you’re pulling me up on them’.

“We spoke about it at the start, he’s not gonna try and change me as a fighter, but he will pull me on the mistakes which I make, and that’s something he’s been doing, and something I’ve been kind of trying to adjust to.

“It makes me more complete. I may be boxing 26 years but I make mistakes, I know that, so he’s been perfect.”

‘HE’S GOT SCARS’

As Conlan tries to win a world title at the third time of asking, Smith’s resilience can be an example too.

While out for a jog in 2006, the coach was mown down by a 56-tonne tram moving at 30mph – and lived to tell the tale.

Conlan added: “He’s got the scars and stuff on his head. The guy was near dead and his family were told that he’d be like a vegetable.

“But he told me while he was going through all this stuff, he could hear everything they were saying.

“He was trying to talk (while in a coma), but obviously was out. And he was saying, ‘I’m all right. I’m all right’.

“He’s a great man. He’s a tough man, but he’s a man who keeps himself to himself and keeps his head down.

“But he’s been through some stuff. It’s crazy. Earphones on and then bang, his thing…

“The story of what he’s been through and what the stuff he’s survived, I suppose, is absolutely mental.

“To be hit by something like that and then be sitting there going, ‘I’m all right’, but you’re actually not.

“You’re sitting there with your shoulders behind your back and your head’s bloody hanging off and you’re going, Jesus Christ, this guy’s going to die.

“I think he checks himself out a week later. You’re going, ‘what the hell is wrong with you?’ I always said there was something wrong with you! And he just laughs.

“But he’s a real good man. I’ll be honest, he’s a real good man, a family man, someone who cares about every single fighter like he cares about his own son. And I love that. I think it’s brilliant.”

SOLE FOCUS

Conlan expects to win his comeback – but the method of victory is not important.

He added: “I’m actually really excited about going out and performing.

“I know that I’m probably levels ahead of my opponent, but he’s coming to win. I’m coming off back-to-back losses.

“He knows how to win. I’ve just got to show my level of boxing, my knowledge and skill set and do what I’ve got to do and get the job done and then move on.

“I probably could be forgiven for fighting somebody with ten losses, 2 wins. I mean, like if I really wanted to, I could have done that.

“But I know that’s not what I need. The only reason I am back is to win world titles.

“It’s not about money. It’s not about anything else. I want to be world champion. And I know I have the ability and the skill set.

“I’ve made the tweaks. I believe I can do it. I’ve watched about a round or two rounds of my opponent. He throws and he’ll leave himself open at times to be hit.

“He’s a lot more active than me. So I need to be switched on.

“He’s cocky. So maybe I’ll give some s*** talking and stuff while I’m in the ring. Who knows?

“ I’ve been I’ve been enjoying that since I was born, giving people a little bit of talk back and stuff. So it’s been good.”

A win, as he says, by any means would mean a good night at the office.

In the main event, his frineds Harlem Eubank and Tyrone McKenna face off. Conlan will be watching through his fingers.

He added: “A win, mate. I’m over a year out. A win. Stoppage would be even better, but I don’t care.

“I need rounds, don’t I? I haven’t been in the ring in a long time. So if I win clearly on points, fine.

“I just got to win and show my own ability. That’s what will constitute a good night – showing my level.”

Conlan freely admits this is the last roll of the dice for him in boxing.

REMINDED OF THE DANGER

And after the death of super-featherweight John Cooney following a Belfast battle last month, it has been brought home once more how dangerous the sport can be.

Now 32, he said: “After my last fight, I was like, ‘f*** this. I don’t know if I want to do this anymore’.

“It’s hard. And, you know, when you lose, when I lose, I’m losing in front of f***ing millions of people.

“People watch us and people will criticize and say things. And it’s hurtful. A hundred per cent it is hurtful and it dents the ego and dents the person.

“But they’re only seeing a glimpse of what it is. If I look back on my last two fights and everything, you know, on my personal life, I probably shouldn’t have been in the ring.

“But you make these decisions in the moment and you’re in that time. If I go back, yes, I would change them, but I can’t go back.

“The last year I was going, do I really want to do this? Running the marathon, to be honest, was one of the reasons I went, no, I need to go back to boxing because I know what I want to achieve.

“It’s the last dance, the last roll of the dice. And I’ve said that numerous times. If I was to lose again, that would be me done. That would be me.

“Listen, boxing is a dangerous game, as we’ve seen in recent times. I don’t really want to talk about that stuff because I am going to fight myself.

“But it is a very dangerous game and people give their lives to this game. I want to be world champion.

“I’ll do everything I can to be world champion. I’m willing to sacrifice so much to be like I’m over here in Sheffield, again, missing more of my kids’ lives.

“But if I don’t do it on this roll of the dice, that’ll be it. You know, I’ve done an awful lot. I’ve achieved an awful lot. I’ve made a lot of money.

“It’s not about that no more. It’s about the goal of becoming world champion. If I can reach that, happy days. If I don’t, then so be it.”

THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES

DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.

Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.

During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.

Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.

The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.

“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.

“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”

The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.

They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.

“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”

Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.
