What Irish TV channel is Real Sociedad vs Manchester United on? Stream, kick-off time and odds for Europa League battle

MANCHESTER United are in Spain this evening for the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie vs Real Sociedad.

This is the only cup competition they’re still in after being dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties by Fulham on Sunday.

United’s league form remains equally patchy too although they did dig out a rare win last time out versus relegation-battlers Ipswich Town.

For context, the Spanish outfit sit ninth in the La Liga table and have lost three from their last five outings, with the other two results being wins.

Here’s everything you need to know around to catch this evening’s match-up:

What Irish TV channel is Real Sociedad vs Man United on?

The match will be shown live on Premier Sports 1 so you can stream it via Now TV if you’re a subscriber with them.

Kick-off from the Anoeta Stadium will be at 5.45pm Irish time.

What are the odds?

The home side are 21/20 favourites to win on the night whilst Ruben Amorim’s under-performing stars are out at 11/4.

A draw is priced at 11/5.

Limited options:

Amorim has been forced to name a depleted 18-man squad, including THREE goalkeepers.

According to Uefa, teams can name up to 23 players to a matchday squad for Europa League games.

But United’s injury crisis has forced just 18 players to make the trip to Sociedad.

With three keepers included: Andre Onana, Dermot Mee and Elyh Harrison, Amorim can only call on 15 outfield stars.

It means a first European squad call up for Mee, 22, who was included on the bench in the Prem for the first time against Everton last month.

Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte are the latest stars to have been ruled out of Thursday night’s clash.

The club has described them as both having picked up “minor knocks” in their FA Cup penalty shootout defeat against Fulham.

Eyebrows were raised when Maguire – who normally takes a penalty in shootouts – was replaced by winter signing Ayden Heaven at the end of normal time against the Cottagers at Old Trafford.

Likewise, Ugarte was subbed off for Alejandro Garnacho in the 53rd minute, but that was likely a tactical decision.

With nine first-team regulars already unavailable, the Red Devils are now without as many as 12 players against Sociedad.

Amorim can’t call on 17-year-old striker Chido Obi, who has came off the bench on multiple occasions in recent weeks.

Obi was not registered when the club submitted the squad because he was not considered part of the first-team.

The talented teenager has not been with the club long enough to be eligible for the B-list, having arrived from Arsenal in the summer.

Fellow January signings Heaven and wing-back Patrick Dorgu were submitted in time, though.

Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount and Amad Diallo are all out injured.

Hairstyles that are kind to your locks

  1. Loose Braids: Opt for loose, soft braids rather than tight ones to minimise tension on the scalp and reduce breakage.
  2. Low Ponytail: A low ponytail is less stressful on your hair compared to high, tight ponytails. Use a fabric-covered hair tie to avoid snagging.
  3. Messy Bun: A relaxed, messy bun can be both stylish and kind to your hair. Avoid pulling your hair too tightly and use gentle hair ties.
  4. Soft Waves: Embrace your natural texture or use heatless methods to create soft waves, reducing the need for damaging heat styling tools.
  5. Half-Up, Half-Down: This style keeps some hair pulled back while leaving the rest down, reducing the strain on your scalp.
  6. Headbands and Scarves: Using headbands or scarves can keep hair out of your face without causing damage, and they can be quite fashionable.
  7. Loose Plaits for Sleeping: Before bed, loosely plait your hair to prevent tangles and breakage overnight.

‘March is when things start ramping up’ gardening expert says as she reveals essential jobs you must do now

WITH the sun finally starting to appear more often, the green-fingered among us will be eager to roll their sleeves up and get to work.

Gardening fanatics will be preparing to get their spaces ready for spring, and an expert has revealed the essential jobs you must get done now.

The most important job to tackle is pruning your hydrangeas

Hosts of the The Ins & Outs podcast, Pollyanna Wilkinson and Jojo Barr, sat down to discuss the must-do jobs for March.

The pair have 23 years of experience between them in interior and exterior design and use their podcast to give listeners helpful advice and tips.

March gardening to-do list

Hydrangeas

Pollyanna says this is the “big job” for March, but warns everyone to wait until the middle to end of the month.

She says as with all things gardening, listeners should “watch the weather and not the month.”

That means people should be keeping an eye on the temperature – and only start pruning when the nighttime temps drop to three or four degrees “consistently.”

Cornus, buddleia, cotinus

There are other things you can start pruning too!

If you have cornus (dogweed), buddleia or cotinus (smoke bush), you’re fine to start pruning these back this month.

Polly’s permission to start cutting back

Pollyanna said now is the time to start cutting back all the plants you’ve been keeping up over winter.

She advised: “We all have to do it eventually, and yes I know we’ve been keeping it up for the wildlife but now is the time so if you’ve got ornamental grasses or perennials or things you’ve kept, down it comes.”

Get those dahlias ordered

It’s time to start thinking ahead to your dahlias, if you’re looking to add a pop of colour to your garden.

Although dahlias shouldn’t be planted until the last frosts (around late April/early May), you can still start them off now.

That’s why it’s a good idea to order them asap, to make sure they arrive in time.

All you need to do is make sure they are kept safe under cover and protected from the elements.

Sewing seeds

And as March’s sunshine has brought the the light levels back up, Polly says: “You can start sewing seeds now, go for it.

“It’s nice to be out there in the sunshine.”

Cheap gardening tips

  • Keep weeds away with straw
According to horticulturists and plant professionals, all-natural straw is one of the most effective tools to bring into your garden.
You don’t need to buy a whole bale – you can typically buy smaller bundles at your local farm store for upwards of £1.50.
Some stores even sell pre-portioned bags made for gardens, which can cost closer to £10 but can be found on the shelves or online.
  • Call your local garden centre
If you are unsure of how to care for your plants, hop on the phone or online and get in touch with your local garden center, rather than resorting to the internet.
Nursery employees will have an up-to-the-minute understanding of your area’s conditions, and any plant care tips that are unique to your climate and soil.
Calling them with a question or stopping in is totally fine – they want your plants to thrive, too.
  • Wood to keep slugs out
Use a piece of wood to keep the slugs out of your garden.
Experts say that they’ll crawl under it for shade.
Then you can gather them up and get rid of them.
  • Save your toilet paper tubes.
You can use paper towel tubes and toilet paper tubes in your garden, according to a tip from Family Handyman.
Save the tubes and cut them into two-inch lengths before placing them in a waterproof tray.
Then simply fill the tubes with potting soil and start planting your seeds.
According to the site, when you’re ready to move them into the garden, they can be planted right in the tubes and, because it’s cardboard, they’ll decompose organically.
