A MAN, aged in his 20s, has died after a crash between a quad bike and a motorcycle in Co Westmeath.

A second man has been left in a “critical condition” while a passenger is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene at Ballynascarry, Finea at around 3:30pm on Saturday.

The male driver of the quad bike, who was aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the motorcycle, also aged in his 20s, has been left in a “critical condition” and was rushed to the Mater Hospital.

A male passenger of the quad bike, also aged in his 20s, was injured but the injuries were not deemed as life-threatening. He was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore.

The body of the deceased quad driver was removed to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar where a post mortem will later take place.

The road has been closed and Gardai expect to conduct a technical examination of the scene on Sunday.

In a statement Gardai said: “Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Ballynascarry, Finea, Co. Westmeath this afternoon Saturday 22nd February, 2025.

“The collision involving a quad bike and motorcycle occurred at approximately 3.30pm.

“The male driver of quad bike, aged in his 20s was fatally injured and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“His body has since been removed to the mortuary in Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar where a post mortem examination will take place in due course.

“The male passenger of the quad bike, aged in his 20s was removed from the scene to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore with non-life threatening injuries.

“The male driver of the motorcycle, aged in his 20s has been removed from the scene and taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and remains in critical condition.

“No other injuries were reported.

“The road is currently closed and will remain closed overnight and a technical examination is due to be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators tomorrow afternoon, Sunday 23rd February, 2025.”

Issuing an appeal, cops added: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in Ballynascarry, Finea between 3:00pm and 4:00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”

Zhang chased the Kurdish German around the ring, slashing at his head from every angle.

Kabayel, 32, was clever and stayed out of range, he stabbed at Zhang’s body and threw the occasionally looped right hand.

Twenty stone Zhang started to fatigue from as early as the second but every punch Kabayel connected with his shaven bowling-ball of a head bounced right off.

The better shots from the 2017 Derek Chisora conqueror were the whipped hooks to Zhang’s never-ending torso.

Kabayel seemed confident that surviving the first half of the bout would allow him to pick off an exhausted veteran late on.

Kabayel poured on the pressure thick and fast in the fourth, like chilli sauce on kebabs, his self-confessed guiltiest pleasure.

But Zhang was far more resilient than the sort of late-night pitta bread that melts limply in your hands at 3am.

Kabayel was coasting the fifth after a minute of one-way action.

But Zhang threw a three-punch combination that looked clumsy when the first two missed, but the final right hook shot landed flush and Kabayel was decked and had to crawl up after eight seconds.

Kabayel rallied though and almost burst Zhang with a body assault as soon as the sixth started.

It looked like Zhang was beaten and needed to take a knee but he battled on and kept taking blows.

Eventually, Kabayel toppled the giant and Zhang folded into the canvas and could not rise in time to continue.
