Huge Spanish island introduces ‘residents-only’ zones – here’s what it means for your next holiday

ONE of the most beautiful towns in Majorca has put strict traffic rules in place and it affects tourists.

In the town of Sóller, the local council has introduced a ‘residents only’ zone across twelve of the busiest streets, meaning absolutely no hire cars will be allowed through.

Sóller, found in the north of Majorca, can be incredibly busy in the height of summer, particularly with traffic headed for the port.

According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, Sóller council has put in place a low emission zone across twelve streets.

For anyone visiting, this means there will be no hire cars allowed in the very centre of the town, unless they are registered by locals.

Thankfully, Sóller is very walkable though and easy to explore on foot, and there’s also a historic tram that runs between Sóller and the port.

The wooden tram opened in 1913 and has several stops for anyone wanting to hop on and off including Plaza de España, Avenida Cristòfol Colom, and Sa Torre square.

It’s quick too with the journey from Sóller to the port only taking 15 minutes and costs between €7–10 (£5-8).

For anyone doing a longer journey, you can also combine train and tram, suitable for anyone travelling from Palma to Sóller with a return ticket costing €25 (£20.93).

You can still take a car into Sóller, but instead of driving into or through the centre, you’ll have to park and walk.

The councillor for mobility, Pep Porcel, said the aim is to ensure visitors arriving by car ‘leave them parked at the car parks which will soon be set up next to the Desvío road.’

All in all, the new rules won’t affect your holiday, but for anyone hiring out a car in Majorca, check where you can drive on the island before setting off as driving in a low emission zone could result in a fine.

Spanish laws are also cracking down on the amount of holiday lets[/caption]

We also recently debunked the recent ‘Spanish tourist ban’, which is also unlikely to affect your next break for those just stepping onto Spanish soil for a holiday.

Due to a lack of housing in some Spanish cities, laws have been introduced to stop any more holiday homes being registered.

For anyone visiting and staying at a hotel, an Airbnb, or holiday villas, this won’t change a thing.

While it’s not a ban for anyone seeking a sunny beach break, it could make your holiday slightly more expensive because of a reduced number of accommodation options.

Malaga has put a law in place stopping any more new holiday rentals for the next three years across 43 districts.

In the city of Barcelona, holiday flats have been completely banned with it fully coming into place by 2029.

All of these rules are to benefit locals looking for long-term leases.

For anyone wanting to head to Majorca for their next break, we found some deals for under £200.

And for even cheaper deals, here’s a little-known Balearic accommodation that costs £9 a night.

This Is The Hotel Loved By Mums For Being A Family-Friendly Resort

This hotel in Majorca is a hit with families from their ice cream parlour to kids playground...

The Iberostar Selection Albufera Park Hotel in Majorca has everything from huge pool areas for all ages of kids as well as loads of activities at the resort.

The family-friendly resort has it’s Star Camp children’s programme, with activities such as paddleboarding in the pool, play beach volleyball, even DJ classes.

Along with a kid’s playground, trampoline area and ball pit, the children’s activities finish with a live evening show and sunset cinema too.

There’s a huge selection of food for everyone too, including the fussy eaters, with buffets, pop up snack bars, and an ice cream parlour which is all part of the all-inclusive.

One TikTok travel mum with the handle @rubyandreyes raved about it on social media, praising the self-serve rooftop bar serving drinks and slushies.

She also praised the quirky retro ice cream parlour that looks like something from the 1950s.

New Love Island feud as Wil Anderson mocks Curtis Pritchard’s cringe Hollyoaks cameo and challenges him to a fight

LOVE Island’s Wil Anderson has sparked a new feud and challenged Curtis Pritchard to a boxing fight.

Wil has mocked Curtis over his Hollyoaks cameo in a cringe takedown and heckled him to meet him in the ring.

Wil, who is now a professional boxer, has branded Curtis a “fool” after he revealed he was also hoping to train in the sport.

The 2024 Love Island star, 24, has even squared up to Curtis, 29, online and challenged him to a Misfits Boxing fight.

The feud occurred after Curtis told Sunsport that he wants to do “some boxing” now his dancing career has cooled off.

He also told Boxing Buzz Hub he would be keen to fight several stars from Love Island in the ring.

Although he didn’t namecheck him, Wil saw Curtis’ comments and replied with boxing glove emojis, adding: “Get me in there to show this fool exactly how Trish is @misfitsboxing.”

Wil was making reference to Curtis’ ‘cringe’ appearance on the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks in 2021.

Curtis and his former Strictly Come Dancing star brother AJ played Marco and Jacob in the show – two professional dancers who were determined to take down dance teacher Trish Minniver.

In one of his big moments, Curtis said to his brother: “Finally. I was beginning to think you’d forgotten about me. What did mum say?”

AJ replied: “Probably to stop whinging.”

Curtis then said: “True. How’s Trish?”

The pair’s nine-episode stint was unfortunately met with a backlash, with Hollyoaks fans branding the brothers “wooden”.

Even EastEnders legend Michael Michael Greco called their performances “shocking”, while Gerard McCarthy – who played Kris Fisher in Hollyoaks from 2006 to 2010 – described it as a “car crash”.

This week, Curtis – who is fresh from his Love Island All Stars stint in South Africa – spoke about launching a boxing career.

In 2019, he laced up the gloves with the help of his fellow Love Island star Tommy Fury for a telly series called The Boxer and the Ballroom Dancer.

Tommy, 25, was taught how to dance for a live performance and Curtis was coached for a white collar bout – which he won on points.

Speaking to Sunsport this week, Curtis said: “I’ve always been into fighting and boxing and all of that stuff so it’s something I’ve always wanted to do as a kid.

Love Island winners - where they are now

EVERY year Love Island opens its doors to more sexy Islanders who are hoping for a holiday romance that could turn into more.

Here we take you through all of the Love Island winners so far and what their relationship statuses are now:

2025 – The second series of All Stars saw Gabby Allen and Case O’Gorman scoop the crown. STATUS: Still together.

2024 – The summer Love Island saw Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan were crowned the winners. STATUS: Broken up.

2022 – Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu’s time in the villa was anything but a smooth ride, but they managed to win the public’s hearts – and the ITV2 reality show. STATUS: Broken up.

2021 – Liam Reardon and Millie Court were announced winners of Love Island 2021. STATUS: Still together.

2020 – The first ever winter Love Island saw Paige Turley and Finn Tapp crowned winners after falling in love on the show. STATUS: Broken up.

2019 – Series 5 saw Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague runners up to winners Greg O’Shea and Amber Gill, who met in the last few days of the series. STATUS: Broken up.

2018 – It wasn’t surprising fan favourites Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer won the show, as they were strong throughout. But sadly things didn’t last. STATUS: Broken up.

2017 – Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies had lots of ups and downs in the villa but went on to win. STATUS: Broken up.

2016 – Nathan Massey and Cara De La Hoyde were together from the start of the series, and since they won the show they’ve had two kids and are married. STATUS: Still together.

2015 – Despite poor Jess Hayes being Max Morley’s second choice on the show, they did win – but they didn’t last as a couple. STATUS: Broken up.

“But dancing was my main career at the time and you couldn’t balance when you’re doing it at a very high level.

“I’ve always been into fighting and boxing and all of that stuff so it’s something I’ve always wanted to do as a kid.

“So I feel like now I’m at a different place in my life and I thought, let’s do some boxing. Let’s do something I’ve always wanted to do and get in the ring.”

Curtis, who is in a relationship with Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, also told Boxing Buzz Hub he has his eye on a Love Island fight.

When asked who he’d like to meet in the ring, he said: “I’m not going to say everyone but I’ll give you two names.

“Sammy [Root] from my series of Love Island just gone because I know that he boxes and I know he’d perhaps love to do it.

“And then maybe Davide [Sanclimenti], which is Ekin’s ex, because I know he never treated her well. So that would be an interesting one.”

Wedding guests left horrified by ‘obscene’ & ‘utterly disgusting’ grazing table – they advise bride to fight the caterer

EVERYONE has been to a wedding where the food was a bit of a let down.

However, one bride was left dealing with a grazing table that was more “mayhem” then just “meh”.

Reddit users were shocked by the grazing table set up at one budget-friendly wedding (stock image)[/caption]

The sorry display was shared on a Reddit group dedicated to Wedding Shaming.

One Reddit user posted a screenshot of a “budget” grazing table from a stranger’s wedding.

In the original caption, the poster wrote: “This is an actual set up a bride had to deal with.”

The unnamed person went on to share the most important piece of advice when booking a caterer.

“Check reviews on companies,” they advised other brides-to-be.

The Redditor chimed in that “you get what you pay for” and since this happy couple tried to cut corners, their caterers cut a shocking element to their set up.

In the picture, a spread of buffet style appetisers can be seen sitting directly on the table cloth.

There appears to be no dishes or plates available to display the selection of food.

However, plastic cutlery has been placed alongside the display for people to apparently help themselves.

There is even a lazy attempt at decorating the table despite the lack of basic utensils.

A vase with three sad flowers dropped over the side is placed behind the piles of food.

The selection included berries, which had created a large stain on the white tablecloth.

There was also a display of cheese and crackers spread across the tables.

Reddit users shared their thoughts on the shocking effort in the comments section.

One disgusted person described the sad display as “utterly disgusting”.

Average cost of a wedding in 2025

Recent research by Hodge reveals the dream of getting married can come with a hefty price tag, reaching more than £20,000.

  • Food – £6,000
  • Honeymoon – £4,329
  • Wedding outfits – £3,500
  • Entertainment – £2,000
  • Engagement ring – £1,948
  • Flowers – £1,110
  • Wedding ring – £1,000
  • Wedding transport – £700

Total = £20,587

Another Redditor agreed, calling the set up “obscene”, while another joked: “I would hike up my dress and fight the caterers if I paid for charcuterie and it looked like this.”

“This is just gross and unprofessional no matter the price,” commented a third person.

“Not even a single platter. That’s UNHINGED,” agreed another Reddit user.

“Love the lonely decor piece of a goblet surrounded by a wooden cage with wilted roses. Just adds to the depressing display of indolence,” said one reader.

“The juice from the berries on the tablecloth is killing me,” commented another person.

Inside Sharlene Mawdsley’s life away from the track – from glam photoshoots to mingling with global stars

SHARLENE Mawdsley is among Ireland’s finest athletes – with her fame skyrocketing to new heights after a hectic 2024.

She helped the 4x400m mixed relay team clinch a gold medal at the European Championships which gave the whole country a boost.

Her Instagram account showcases how she combines her sporting pursuits with her hobbies away from athletics[/caption]

And people nationwide were just as affected by her and the women’s 4x400m quartet falling agonisingly short of a medal at the summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Here, SunSport delves into her how she spends her time when she’s not honing her speed on the track:

How old is Sharlene Mawdsley and where is she from?

The sprint ace is 26. Her birthday is August 10 so that meant she celebrated her last one in the Olympic Village with teammates Rhasidat Adeleke, Sophie Becker and Phil Healy.

She hails from Newport in county Tipperary.

Sponsorship deals:

Despite putting in just as much work as say footballers or golf stars, elite athletes the world over tend to make a fraction in on-track earnings by comparison.

So side stream of income such as sponsorship arrangements are especially vital to every member of Team Ireland since grants from Sport Ireland are restricted to modest enough sums.

Among Mawdsley’s partnerships are SPAR, Green Farm Fine Foods, Mazars and Herbalife.

Photoshoots:

Mawdsley is also in high demand when it comes to interviews and photoshoots from sporting and non-sporting media outlets.

Her August shoot with Life Magazine revolved around how she combines contrasting passions such as fashion and competing in the sporting realm.

Track pal Adeleke labelled her photos where she donned a black dress and high heels while posing in a gym ‘gorgeous’.

Mixing with stars from other sports

Her profile is such that she regularly gets to attend invite-only events at swanky venues.

One such example saw her cross paths with Gary Neville, Paul McGinley and Liam Sheedy at Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel.

Battle with imposter syndrome

While she’s now one of Ireland’s most recognisable sportspeople, Mawdsley has had to overcome significant roadblocks on her path to success and stardom.

In the build-up to International Women’s Day 2025 she spoke with Herbalife, detailing how she’s had to overcome imposter syndrome.

Though she made her Olympic bow in 2024, she came extremely close to securing a spot in the previous Games in Tokyo.

The 400m specialist achieved the qualification time required but ultimately was not selected to represent her county at the Covid-delayed Games.

She explains: “I used to struggle a lot mentally and it came to a stage where I felt I no longer enjoyed competing even though I had done all the hard work behind closed doors on the track and in the gym. I felt the ‘I shouldn’t be here’ mentality kick in”.

After the challenges she faced around the 2021 Olympics, she worked tirelessly with a sports psychologist and gradually began to rebuild her confidence on the road to Paris.

Sharlene said: “Imposter syndrome is so common, not only in sport, but when I began the ‘fake it till you make it’ mantra, it just became my reality.”

“Working with my sport psychologist and speaking more openly with my team meant a lot of the imposter syndrome went away, and my overall performance began to get better.”

“I’ve also had great support from Herbalife. They’ve helped me out with everything and anything.

“There was nothing that I needed to look for outside of Herbalife because they’ve got a great range of science-backed supplements to fuel me day-to-day and on the track”.

With Herbalife, a global health and wellness company, aiding her in taking control of her physical needs, Sharlene can focus on managing her mindset.

Serving as a role model for women navigating their own self-doubt, Sharlene offered vital advice: “Focus on what you can control, and don’t waste time worrying about what you can’t”.

She encourages others to remember that life is short and letting go of unnecessary worry is essential to achieving success, adding: “When I let my thoughts get the better of me before, I would tell myself to take the safe option. Now I embrace the challenges”.

Sharlene also stresses the importance of staying true to herself explaining: “By staying true to myself and allowing myself to feel my true feelings I continue to accelerate action in my career and life.”

“I continue to push the boundaries of my own training by working with the world’s best and in my everyday life I will do everything I can to be happy.”

Sharlene continues to combat challenges by remembering all the hard work that she has put into excelling as an athlete, she says: “Looking back on training diaries just days before the race and trusting my coach, these are small things to do, but for me make such a huge difference in the ‘Sharlene’ that shows up on the track.”

Sharlene shares she is now able to embrace every time she gets to represent Ireland and show the world the hard work she has put in.

This year’s IWD theme ‘Accelerate Action’ is a call to acknowledge the strategies, resources, and activity that positively impacts women’s advancement to support and elevate them.

It’s about celebrating the people who roll up their sleeves and take bold steps towards equality. Sharlene believes that “Showing more women in sport is key to progressing this”

She also explains how support from others has been key to the success she has achieved to date, as she explains: “Having my friends and family understand what I do is hugely important as they are the driving force behind me on all those bad days.

“I will always be so appreciative and grateful for them.”
