I sunk $100,000 into my boxing career before one punch changed my life… now I’m signed to Jake Paul

LUCAS BAHDI sunk $100,000 of his own money into his boxing career – but one punch made the gamble all pay off.

Bahdi was an unknown outsider in July 2024 when Floyd Schofield pulled out of fighting Jake Paul’s highly-touted prospect Ashton Sylve.

So when the Canadian got the call on three weeks notice to replace Schofield – he backed his lightening quick hands to steal Sylve’s thunder.

Bahdi, 31, told SunSport: “I was going in as a B-side opponent. They didn’t expect anything from me.

“That was an event to showcase Ashton and I came in and I stole the show.

“They didn’t really know much about me at the time but they, they got to learn real quick.”

Bahdi sensationally came from behind to knock Sylve out and leave the 21-year-old faceplanting the canvas after a devastating left hook.

The lightweight became a star overnight and was quickly signed by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions banner.

But what fans did not know was Bahdi had been quietly making a name for himself on small shows in Mexico and Canada.

He was just praying an opportunity would come his way – estimating he spent $100,000 (£77,000) of his own cash to fund his career.

Bahdi said: “When I first turned pro, I was fighting like every four or five weeks.

“I fought nine fights in nine months and I funded my whole career from from my pro debut till about 11-0, 12-0.

“And if I didn’t do that, I probably wouldn’t have got that opportunity to fight Ashton.

“Because I would have had only a couple of fights or I would have been with the local promoter.

“I think everything played out in my favour. I bet on myself and I definitely pulled through.”

Bahdi’s sixth-round KO of Sylve was fitting for any Hollywood movie script – but he says that is nothing compared to what he experienced in Mexico.

One bout – during the coronavirus pandemic – saw Bahdi travel without any friends, family or coaches.

And he was staring defeat in the face by round four when both his hands were broken and his eyes almost closed shut due to damage sustained.

Bahdi revealed: “Five weeks before, I broke my left hand. I was so frustrated with everything that I didn’t care.

It was the craziest story – they could have made a movie on that night.

Lucas Bahdi

“I said, I’m still gonna go and I’m gonna knock him out with one hand. And in the first round, I broke my good hand!

“So I was in there with two broken hands and it was the middle of the second round when I realised something is really wrong with my good hand at the time.

“Things weren’t going well for me after that point, the third round was a terrible round and I was getting touched up pretty good.

“Both my eyes were almost swollen shut and in the fourth round, I ended up catching him with counter left hook and knocked him out.

“It was the craziest story – they could have made a movie on that night.

“From before the fight, till after the fight, to going home, traveling alone with two broken hands, with almost two eyes that are swollen shut.

“There could have been a movie on that. I couldn’t even pack my bags.

‘It’s only a matter of time’

“To get out of the hotel, I literally had to get the front desk to help me. It a crazy eventful experience, to say the least.”

Bahdi is now a 135lb contender being pushed with the help of YouTuber-turned boxer Paul.

And Bahdi said: “He’s not only a boxer himself, he’s a promoter, so he’s got to put both hats on and it’s not easy to do. But he’s amazing for the sport.

“He’s amazing to be a part of his team because he’s got such a big influence and he’s he’s making waves in the boxing scene right now as you can see and I think this is only the beginning.”

Bahdi is 18-0 with 15 KOs and returns on Friday in Canada against Ryan James Racaza, 28, himself unbeaten in 15 bouts.

And he warned the champions at lightweight that it is only a matter of time until he comes hunting for their gold.

Bahdi warned: “I think in the next six to 12 months, I’ll be fighting for titles. It’s only a matter of time. I’m only a couple of fights away.

“I’m aiming for the champions, whether it’s Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Loma or Keyshawn Davis. For me, I don’t care.

“I’m gonna be knocking on their doors very soon and if they don’t answer, I’ll be kicking them down.”

Fans rush to M&S for dupe of viral Our Place nonstick pan that’s £95 more & people reckon it’s even BETTER

M&S shoppers are racing to stores to pick up a dupe of a kitchen essential.

Our Place

Taking to TikTok, she said: “Okay, M&S have done it again.

“I found a dupe of the Our Place Always Pan, and this was literally £30.”

The Our Place Always pan became a viral product last year thanks to its multipurpose uses.

You can fry, bake, put it in the oven and even use it as a steamer thanks to the steaming basket that comes with it.

But the original comes with an eye-watering price tag of £125 and it’s almost sold out in Selfridges.

Fortunately, Miskzo found a dupe in M&S, which had a budget-friendly price tag.

The All in One Pan dupe will save you £95 and does all of the same things as the designer version.

The versatile pan comes with a stainless steel steaming basket and an aluminium lid.

It’s made with aluminium for perfect heat distribution and uses a stainless steel base so that it is compatible with any hob, including induction.

M&S bosses say: “Perfect for deep frying, steaming, searing, sauteing and braising. Enjoy effortless cooking and cleanups, thanks to the durable non-stick coating inside and out.”

As the woman used the pan for the first time to make pancakes, she was thrilled with how well it performed.

She said: “I added lots of spray oil, but I really didn’t need it because obviously the non-stick was non-sticking.

“Look at that. Anyway, it worked a charm.”

The M&S pan is out of stock online, but some people have found it in store.

What are the biggest kitchen trends of 2025?

The kitchen is the heart of every home and this year it’s taking centre stage, Tracy Coleman, Product Director at High Street TV told Fabulous.

Hardworking appliances

Space-saving essentials are needed in every room of the house, and the kitchen is no exception, meaning appliances are often doing double (or triple) the job.

Expect to see air fryer ovens that roast, bake, and fry or blenders with attachments for everything from chopping to grinding.

Health and wellness
With people becoming more mindful of what they eat and how it impacts their well-being, kitchen appliances are stepping up to
meet the demand for healthier, more balanced lifestyles.

Air fryers remain hugely popular, along with blenders and juicers that retain nutrients.

Energy-bill conscious
Finally, with rising energy bills and an increased focus on sustainability, people are turning to appliances that help reduce power consumption and keep costs down.

More people are finding joy in cooking at home as a cost-effective
way to enjoy delicious, nutritious meals. Cooking at home doesn’t just save money—it’s also a fun way to bring the family together or experiment with new recipes.

With the right tools, such as multi-functional appliances and smart kitchen gadgets, creating meals at home becomes easier, faster, and more satisfying.

The clip went viral on her account @miskzo13 with over 216k views and 3,700 likes.

People were quick to take to the comments sharing their thoughts.

One person wrote: “I can bet the M&S one is better quality than the Our Place.”

Another commented: “I’ve managed to order the charcoal one and got 20% off on my sparks card!! Thanks for reviewing.”

“Thanks lovely. Ordered one,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “M&S just always delivering!!”

“God, I love M&S. I’ll be popping in after work,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “I’ve just been influenced.”

Leading car dealership to axe two sites this MONTH as bosses accused of ‘pulling the rug from under workers’

A MAJOR car dealer is shutting two more sites, leaving staff fearing for their jobs.

This announcement comes just days after the automotive company revealed it would also shut its Volkswagen dealerships in Horsham and Aylesbury, both expected to close at the end of March.

Marshall Motor Group has confirmed its Peugeot dealerships in Canterbury and Ashford will close at the end of the month.

Stellantis UK, Peugeot’s parent company, said the retailer contracts with Marshall were ending by mutual agreement and assured efforts were being made to minimise disruption.

But workers were blindsided when told last Friday, with many insisting the closures are not linked to performance.

One employee told KentOnline: “We were told it was due to downsizing by Marshall and that the industry as a whole is struggling.

“It’s left a lot of people shocked, and understandably quite scared.

“We felt we were performing well and we didn’t really have much of an idea that this was going to happen.”

A consultation is underway to find alternative roles, but no offers have been made yet, leaving many at risk of redundancy.

The Canterbury site is on Broad Oak Road, while Ashford’s dealership is off Crowbridge Road, South Willesborough, near Orbital Park.

A spokesperson said: “Stellantis UK confirms that, by mutual agreement, the retailer contracts with Marshall Vauxhall Peterborough, Peugeot Peterborough, Peugeot Ashford and Peugeot Canterbury have ended, and they will cease representing our brands at the end of March.

“We are working closely with each site to ensure that there is minimum disruption to customers’ new vehicle orders and after-sales support.”

This is due to Marshall Motor Group deciding that it would ‘downsize’ its relationship with the car company Stellantis.

These locations are set to close on March 31, marking a significant shift in the company’s operations as it restructures its dealership network.
