The official destination is yet to be confirmed although it is expected to be Delhi.

The budget carrier revealed plans last month to expand to Europe, having also announced flights from Amsterdam to India as well.

The new route will fly three times a week, and is set to launch in July.

When it launches, it will be the only direct route to India for the north of England.

IndiGo chief executive Pieter Elbers said: “Today, we unlock a new and very exciting chapter in IndiGo’s growth journey, connecting India to the heart of Europe

“We’re thrilled to announce our first-ever long-haul destinations – Manchester and Amsterdam

“India has strong ties both with the United Kingdom and the Netherlands for business and tourism; and there is a large Indian diaspora who live in these countries.

“These new flights will benefit both our existing and potential customers who fly on these routes.

“These new IndiGo long-haul routes are steps towards inching closer to realising our shared vision to build India into a global aviation hub.”

Currently, Brits can fly with both Virgin Atlantic and AirIndia to Delhi, with the latter being the flag carrier.

While flight prices for IndiGo are yet to be revealed, they said they will be “affordable fares”.

Currently, flight prices are around £425 return, taking just over eight hours.

Air India is also increasing its flights from the UK this year.

The Indian flag carrier recently merged with Vistara, another Indian airline.

Following this, routes from London Heathrow to Delhi will increase from 21 to 24 per week.

Two more routes from London Heathrow to Gatwick will operate per week this summer, as well as another two to Ahmedabad.

And London Gatwick to Amritsar flights will increase from three to four per week.

Most people head to India to explore the Golden Triangle, which explores Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous attractions, built in Agra in the 1640s.

And Jaipur, dubbed the “pink city” is home to the famous Amber Fort.

Can’t quite make it to India? Here is a landmark in the UK that will transport you to the country instead.

The schedule was interrupted for ten mins before host Jeremy Vine had to cancel the next segment on cremation.

BBCV Radio 6 Music was also impacted by the fire alarm.

Employees based at Broadcasting House, off Oxford Street, were turfed outside while the alleged fire was investigated.

Jeremy told listeners: “It’s BBC Radio 2. Jeremy Vine here. I do apologise, we did just have a proper fire alarm here.

“There wasn’t a fire but we had the thing that I’ve not had in 20 years where not just one light goes off but two.

“The orange light which means there could be a fire and then the red light and then the announcement in the studio which looked as if there was one.

“We came out the building. We stood outside in the sun. There’s no fire, so we came back in.

“Because there’s no fire we are going to cancel the item we were doing on cremation.

“We will talk later to Julia Donaldson later about World Book Day.”

IRELAND AM star Muireann O’Connell has wowed viewers as she stepped out on air in a “beautiful” outfit – and it included a bargain Dunnes Stores cardigan.

Muireann always puts her best fashion foot forward when it comes to her TV looks.

And her pre-show outfit clips have become a much-loved tradition with her followers.

Today, the 41-year-old sported a gorgeous number, wearing an argyle printed cardigan that she paired with a wine coloured skirt.

Muireann’s cardigan was from Dunnes Stores, where it retails on their site for just €25.

Paired with her top, Muireann popped on a midi skirt she “borrowed from a friend”.

The skirt was the ideal item to match with her top due to its flattering shape and slit at the knee – giving the entire look some shape.

She also added a chunky gold necklace and her usual gold bangles.

To round off her on-air look, Muireann wore a pair of wine coloured leather heels she got from Mango.

Of course, Muireann’s new cropped bob is the main character of all of her most recent TV looks.

The chat show host has been ditching her usual beach waves for a sleek side parting and pin straight look – and we are so here for it.

Showing off her work look, Muireann wrote: “Good morning! Work outfit.”

Friends and fans raced to the presenter’s comment section to gush over her sense of style.

Maureen said: “Love both outfits and getting that cardi.”

Mary gushed: “Just fabulous. Loving watching you putting outfits together.”

Marian wrote: “Love this morning’s outfit.”

Lisa commented: “That burgundy actually really suits you. Between the looks and the figure, girl you have got it.”

Another fan added: “Beautiful Cardigan.”
