LIONESS stars Leah Williamson and Ella Toone have paid tribute to a 10-year-old girl who was killed when a car ploughed onto a rugby pitch.
Poppy Atkinson, 10, died on Wednesday after a black BMW i4 crashed through a perimeter fence separating the pitches at Kendal Rugby Club in Cumbria.
Children and adults looked on in horror as the car drove down a 3ft drop from a car park and hit Poppy and another girl aged eight.
They were both rushed to hospital but medics were unable to save football-mad Poppy.
Now, Williamson, who plays for Women’s Super League club Arsenal and captains the England women’s national team, has paid tribute to Poppy.
The football star shared an Instagram story which read: “Such tragic tragic news!
“My thoughts are with the family, friends and teammates. I can’t begin to imagine your loss. RIP Poppy.”
Talented footballer Poppy – who idolised the likes of Ella Toone and Lionel Messi – was pictured for the first time yesterday as heartbreaking tributes poured in from family and friends.
The keen Manchester United fan played at GT7 Football Academy, who trained at Kendal Rugby Club.
Floral tributes to the youngster have been laid at the scene at Kendal Rugby Club, Cumbria, while clubhouse flags are flying at half-mast.
The tragedy happened just before 5pm on Wednesday when the black BMW i4 drove through the wire fence and down a drop onto football pitches, hitting Poppy and another child.
The eight-year-old was taken to hospital but her injuries are said to be non life-threatening.
The driver of a black BMW i40, a man in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The force said the man, from Lancaster, remains in police custody.
Poppy’s devastated family said yesterday: “Poppy was the focal point of our lives, everything for us revolved around Poppy’s love for football.
“Poppy touched so many lives, it was easy to see why, her energy, character, spirit and passion for football was infectious and touched huge numbers of people.
“Poppy was 100% determined to be a professional footballer. Many who know her, and who know her determination to improve and win, had no doubt she would achieve her goal to one day to play for Manchester United.
“Poppy idolised Ella Toone, Georgia Stanway, Mainoo and Messi to name a few.
“Poppy was a small, petite and beautiful 10-year-old, yet she played up an age group and proudly represented the Kendal United and county U-12 teams.
“Poppy earned her place through her determination and her technical mastery on the pitch, her skill was envied by most that she played with and against.
“Poppy was sister to 7-year-old Edward. Edward worshipped the ground Poppy walked on, he only ever wanted to be like her. Poppy would coach and support Edward with his football, it was so beautiful to see.
“The hole in our lives and so many around us that Poppy leaves is enormous, we will never be whole again.
“This world has lost a spirit like no other, she was a force of nature. She was so special, she was too good for this world.”
Manchester United stars Kobbie Mainoo and Ella Toone also paid tribute yesterday.
A club spokesman said: “On behalf of Ella, Kobbie and everyone at Manchester United, we send our heartfelt condolences to Poppy’s family and friends for their devastating loss. Rest in peace Poppy.”
EVERYBODY loves a good showbiz feud and this time it involves Brits host Jack Whitehall, who has been slammed as being “condescending”.
At last week’s Brits, the comedian, 36, targeted everyone from Simon Cowell to KSI – bit a well known celebrity has now called his jokes “dated”.
Last Saturday night, Jack took to the stage to present the Brits for the fifth time, after a four year break.
He spent the evening cracking jokes, but disgruntled a few people along the way – including noughties TV presenter Miquita Oliver, 40.
The T4 star has now slammed Jack’s hosting, and called him “inappropriate”.
The presenter didn’t hold back, as she pulled Jack up on his choice of jokes.
Speaking on her Miss Me? podcast with Lily Allen, Miquita said: “The appointment of Jack Whitehall I think was inappropriate.
“He wasn’t the right person.’
Continuing, she said: “I really don’t want to bring Jack Whitehall down… but I felt like he brought a condescending, somewhat glib attitude to the proceedings.
“There is a room full of creatives and artists who have given us work this year that doesn’t need to be undermined, and that was like the whole MO of the tone.
“There were over 10 jokes about musicians taking cocaine.”
Miquita then went onto call Jack’s jokes “dated” and “over”.
It comes after some of Jack’s choice of jokes sparked outrage last Saturday night.
The biggest one came after Jade had finished performing.
He remarked how surprised he was to see her performing in white – after P Diddy‘s white parties hit headlines.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, 55, was charged with
racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in
prostitution after his arrest last September following a string of allegations.
Following the joke, one person raged: “Mentioning Diddy after the whole, very blatant, message of JADEs performance ??? Get this man off my screen.”
Other jokes included making fun of Stormzy following claims the rapper has sold out after teaming up with a fast food brand.
He said: “Ladies and gentlemen, do we have any Vossi Bopper’s in the house?
“In the 90s, you’d find your rappers doing drive-bys; this one you can find at the drive-thru – nominated for two Brit Awards this evening – we didn’t send him a limo tonight, we ‘deliverooed’ him here, it’s Stormzy.
“The grime scene’s Ronald McDonald. He’s loving it.”
One person who felt a lot of heat from Jack throughout the evening was new Britain’s Got Talent judge, KSI.
“The guy who will have a go at literally anything. YouTuber, boxer, energy drink, rapper. Yes he’s drink is Prime, his music is slightly past it’s prime, KSI,” Jack joked.
“He’s a Britain’s Got Talent judge now as well. I love that, KSI judging talent. That is like Stephen Hawking judging Strictly.”
The audience could be seen gasping as fellow BGT judge Bruno Tonioli laughed beside KSI.
Not stopping there, Jack also took a pop at pop band Coldplay.
The comic rereferred to the band, who were nominated for group of the year and song of the year, as the “public school Nickelback”.
JOSE MOURINHO pretended to fall asleep as he claimed Fenerbahce’s 3-1 defeat to Rangers was a “good result.”
The two sides clashed in Istanbul for the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie.
Fenerbahce boasted stars including Milan Skriniar, Dusan Tadic and Edin Dzeko in their starting XI.
While Rangers looked to upset the odds under new interim boss Barry Ferguson.
And the Scots did exactly that as they raced into a sixth minute lead through Cyriel Dessers.
Galatasaray levelled on the half hour mark through Alexander Djiku.
But Rangers went into the break 2-1 up thanks to Vaclav Cerny’s strike.
The Glasgow side then held strong in the second half before Cerny struck again in the 81st minute to secure a 3-1 win.
It means Fenerbahce must score at least twice in next week’s Ibrox tie just to take it to extra time.
But despite the setback, boss Mourinho reckons it was a “good result” for the Turks.

He said: “We were very bad everywhere. I think it’s not fair to say we were very bad in defence, because we were very bad everywhere.
“Maybe you laugh, but for me it was a good result, because the way we performed the result could be bigger than this.
“I know that Jack Butland made three fantastic saves. I know that there is, I think, a penalty, but to speak about the referee after this performance, I don’t think it’s ethical.
“The chances we had to score we didn’t. The dynamic in midfield was not good. Defensively, we made incredible mistakes. We never controlled that.
“They defended a lot with the block very low, a good and dangerous counter-attack. So we deserve the punishment of this result.
“But if somebody later wants to ask me do I think it’s over, no, I don’t think it’s over. There is 90 or 120 minutes to play.
“It’s the only positive thing. And from this game, I don’t take any positives. Everything went wrong.
“The only thing I tell them is, don’t celebrate too much. Because there is a second match. It’s my only advice.”
Later on during his post-match press conference, Mourinho pretended to nod off as he listened to a lengthy question.
The Special One closed his eyes and drooped his head to one side as he simulated a snoring snooze.
And fans were left in stitches by Mourinho’s behaviour, with one saying: “Mourinho can act in the best movie industry in the world.”
Another declared: “Classic Jose time.”
One noted: “Think Jose’s had enough.”
Another added: “Oh my word.”
IRELAND is expected to be warmer than parts of Spain this weekend – but rain is set to make an appearance.
While most of the rain hitting Europe this weekend will impact Spain and Portugal, Ireland will see it’s fair share of showery outbursts.
Weather bosses have said that it will be “fairly mixed” over the coming days, but will see some sunny spells break through.
And temperatures are looking to remain high all weekend, with conditions higher than Madrid.
Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures reach between 15C and 16C, while the Spanish capital will fail to stay higher than 9C.
To add to this, Ireland is expected to see less rainfall than Spain, Portugal and Australia – rare for this time of year.
Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly said that due to Cyclone Alfred hitting Brisbane, it will bring the equivalent of a year’s worth of rain in Dublin.
He said: “Total rainfall for next 5 days for Ireland, Portugal/Spain and parts of Eastern Australia.
“Not often we are forecast to see much less rainfall this time of year. #CycloneAlfred forecast to bring the equivalent of a year’s rainfall for Dublin to parts of Brisbane over next 5 days!“
Today is looking to be mostly cloudy, with some rain hitting in parts.
Met Eireann’s Brandon Creagh said: “It’s fairly mixed over the next few days with rain and showers today and tomorrow followed by drier sunnier weather for Sunday.
“Today then is mostly cloudy this morning with some patchy drizzle in the east and south.
“Some showery rain will move into southern areas through the afternoon and spread northwards with highest temperatures of 10C to 13C in a light to moderate east to southeast wind.”
Tonight will see that band of rain clearing with dry weather to take over, but it won’t be the last we see of rain this weekend.
Brandon continued: “Into tonight, that band of showery rain clearing northwards followed by drier, clear weather.
“Towards morning, another band of rain will move up from the south with relatively mild conditions and lowest temperatures of only 7C to 9C in a moderate southeast wind.”
Saturday will see any remaining rain move northwards as conditions become much more mild.
This will also bring sunny spells throughout the day as temperatures begin to climb.
He said: “Into tomorrow’s Saturday it will turn breezy as that band of showery rain tracks northwards though becoming drier with limited sunny spells following the rain.
“Mild for the time of year tomorrow with highest temperatures of 12C to 15C in a moderate fresh east to southeast wind.”
Sunday will be a mostly dry day with the first bit of spring sun creeping its way across the country.
Brandon added: “And then looking ahead to Sunday dry across most areas with spells of spring sunshine and just light to moderate east to northeast winds.
“Highest temperatures around 12C to 16C, warmest away from eastern counties.”

Black Widow has just received a brand new Mrs. Barnes skin, but that is not something that would improve her dying pick rates in the game. NetEase needs to make that agent better by buffing some of her abilities and balancing her out compared to other duelists out there. Black Widow in Marvel Rivals has […]
