AMEN Teklay’s heartbroken big sister has hailed the tragic schoolboy as her “best friend”.
The youngster’s family has been left “devastated” after he was fatally attacked near St George’s Cross in Glasgow on Wednesday night.
Detectives announced earlier today that officers were treating his death as murder and a major investigation is underway.
Delina Teklay, 17, paid tribute to her younger brother and said she was “still in denial” over his passing.
She told BBC Scotland that Amen was a “really sweet person” and “kind and so bright”.
Delina said: “He was the one I could go and talk to about anything. We grew up together so we were very close.
“This was very unexpected and shocking for us. I just think this is a dream and I’m going to wake up tomorrow.”
It is understood Amen, originally from Eritrea in northeast Africa, lived with his father and was recently granted leave to remain in the UK.
He was a pupil at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary in the city’s Jordanhill, where headteacher Claire McInally described him as a “friendly and much-loved young man who was really interested in music and the media”.
She added: “He was bright and showed great promise.
“This has been a shock for our school community, and we are continuing to offer support to our young people, staff and those in the wider community who are affected.”
Hours after cops announced a murder investigation, Amen’s friends visited the youth club he regularly attended to offer their condolences to his heartbroken family.
Dozens of adults and schoolchildren gathered at Kingsway Community Connections in the city’s Knightswood area.
Mercy crews raced to Clarendon Street in Maryhill around 10.30pm on Wednesday.
But tragically Amen could not be saved and he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Earlier, cops scoured drains and gardens for clues while forensic officers continued to comb the area as detectives hunt for Amen’s killer.
Detective Superintendent Cheryl Kelly said: “Our thoughts are with the Amen’s family and friends at this distressing time. We will continue to provide specialist support for them as our investigation continues.
“We are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and anyone who has dash cam, private CCTV or doorbell footage around the time of the incident.”
