What better way to fund a massive ramping up of Britain’s defences than to axe vastly expensive Net Zero spending?

WHAT better way to fund a massive ramping up of Britain’s defences than to axe vastly expensive Net Zero spending?

The Sun has been calling for it for months. We hope Chancellor Rachel Reeves has been listening.

According to Treasury insiders, she is taking a very close look at the £8.5billion currently earmarked for Ed Miliband’s GB Energy.

It’s been hailed — by Miliband himself — as crucial to Labour’s plans for a clean-energy “revolution”.

But, in reality, it will fritter giant subsidies on dozens of loss-making green projects for decades.

GB Energy’s own boss, Jurgen Maier, has already exposed the fantasy by revealing it would take 20 YEARS for it to create a promised 1,000 jobs.

And while Net Zero actively makes British families poorer, the Chinese are still polluting the world by burning billions of tons of coal to make steel for wind farms they then sell to us.

Zealot Miliband will fight the Treasury tooth and nail to protect his pet project.

But the Chancellor must know that we can no longer indulge Red Ed’s green obsessions.

Not when the priority now is to re-arm our shamefully hollowed-out Armed Forces.

Stirrer Sadiq

SADIQ Khan may be 54 years old but once again he has shown himself to be the ultimate virtue-signalling student politician.

His sly attempt to incite protests against Donald Trump during the US President’s forthcoming State visit are beneath his office as Mayor of London.

The Met has already been overstretched by 18 months of pro-Palestine protests which have cost taxpayers more than £53million.

Encouraging a hard-left mob of anarchists and professional socialist complainers to take to the streets will only push that exorbitant bill higher.

Raising the prospect of violence against brave police officers is also deeply irresponsible.

But Khan clearly doesn’t care about that — or about destabilising the delicate relationship his political boss Keir Starmer has forged with Trump.

As violent crime in the capital soars amid a chronic housing shortage, Mayor Khan has a serious job to do.

He has proved that he remains a deeply unserious person.

Tak a bow

SAS legend Sekonaia “Tak” Takavesi will rest a little easier in his bed tonight.

At a time when his fellow Special Forces heroes are hounded by lawyers for doing their incredible job, it’s heart-warming to see Sun readers raise £55,000 to support his retirement.

He dared, you cared.

Still hellbent on his revenge plan, Fergal instructed Jacinta to antagonise Liam to keep him on the hook.

While Carol urged Liam to let things go with Jacinta.

Fergal was thrown when Liam asked him to give a talk to the local youth, but Liam humiliated him at the talk by probing about his troubled childhood.

Jacinta fired back at Liam before Gar shut him down.

Fergal feigned gratitude towards Liam after the talk, and Carol called him out for embarrassing Fergal, urging him to call a truce with Jacinta.

However, Jacinta had different ideas and encouraged Fergal to take action against Liam.

RTE viewers flocked to social media to express their opinions after Liam attempted to ruin his plan.

One viewer wrote: “Very vile Liam from a former priest.”

Another viewer said: “They are both playing each other.”

William tweeted: “I can’t figure out if the writers want us to like or hate Liam!”

Sylvia remarked: “So ritual humiliation is Liam’s idea of help?”

Elsewhere in Carrigstown, Gwen tried to secure a place to stay with Georgie; when that failed, she approached Sharon.

Meanwhile, James was evasive towards Emma’s questions about his work.

NEW ROOMMATE

After Sharon also refused her, Gwen confronted Georgie for badmouthing her.

However, Georgie stood his ground and called Gwen a user.

And James was delighted to see Gwen leave, but was left reeling after discovering that Emma agreed to let her stay with them.

Elsewhere on the show, a spiteful Ian played a joke on Greg at work.

WORK PALS

Trying to give some back, Greg joined Maxine in lightly teasing him, but Ian didn’t see the humour in it.

And Sash was unimpressed when Nikki tasked her with selling a phone at McCoys.

But she panicked when Maxine enquired about a missing phone, deducing that Nikki must have nicked it.

She decided to return Maxine’s phone, lying that a customer had turned it in.

However, Sasha was horrified to learn that the phone was not Maxine’s after all.

Lastly, Greg and Jess attempted to dissuade Ellie from her interest in Ian.

The experts at Life Before Plastic have revealed a minor change you can to cut down on your energy bills.

By making a simple switch to a food prep step, you can not only keep your ingredients fresh for longer but also cool down your fridge at the same time.

According to the professionals, defrosting your dinner in your fridge instead of on your kitchen counter can help you save on household bills.

It’s easy to waste food when you don’t know the correct way to store it,” the experts explained.

“Have you ever bought a bag of mushrooms then forgotten about them before it’s too late? Or a bunch of spinach that goes wilted and stinks out your fridge? We’ve all been there.

“Having to throw away food is money straight in the bin and bad news for overconsumption and our environment.

Knowing how to store your food properly ensures maximum freshness, lower energy bills, and reduces food waste.”

By defrosting food in your fridge, you can help keep the appliance’s interior temperature low.

“Putting a frozen item in the refrigerator helps cool the appliance down and then it doesn’t need as much energy to keep the rest of your food cold,” the pros revealed.

They broke down the various benefits of this handy food prep technique.

“This helps lower your energy bill and defrost your food at a healthy speed so it does not spoil.”

Depending on how much food you plan to defrost, you may even be able to adjust the temperature of your fridge.

This will help to further reduce your energy bill costs.

A higher temperature setting will cost less to run because it requires less energy to maintain a warmer temperature.

And there are other DIY hacks you can take when it comes to your fridge.

Hacks for Keeping Food Fresh in Your Fridge

IF you want your food to stay fresh, you'll need to try out this useful hacks...

  1. Herbs in Water: Store fresh herbs like parsley and coriander in a glass of water, then cover with a plastic bag to keep them fresh for weeks.
  2. Wrap Greens in Paper Towels: Wrap leafy greens in paper towels before placing them in a plastic bag. The towels absorb excess moisture, preventing wilting.
  3. Use Mason Jars: Store salads, chopped vegetables, and even leftovers in mason jars. They are airtight and keep food fresher for longer.
  4. Revive Stale Bread: Sprinkle a bit of water on stale bread and pop it in the oven for a few minutes to make it fresh again.
  5. Baking Soda for Odours: Place an open box of baking soda in your fridge to absorb odours and keep food tasting fresh.
  6. Freeze Herbs in Olive Oil: Chop herbs and freeze them in olive oil using an ice cube tray. This preserves their flavour and makes them easy to use.
  7. Keep Cheese Fresh: Wrap cheese in wax paper instead of plastic wrap. Wax paper allows the cheese to breathe, preventing it from becoming slimy.
  8. Store Avocados with Onions: Place a cut avocado in an airtight container with a slice of onion. The sulphur compounds in the onion slow down oxidation, keeping the avocado fresh.
  9. Use Vinegar Wash for Berries: Rinse berries in a mixture of water and vinegar (one cup of vinegar to three cups of water) before storing. This kills bacteria and mould spores, extending their shelf life.
  10. Egg Freshness Test: To check if eggs are still fresh, place them in a bowl of water. Fresh eggs will sink, while old ones will float.

Implement these clever hacks to maximise the freshness of your food and make the most of your groceries.

An 80p hack will help to freshen up your stinky fridge and prevent mildew forming.

You can also use a kitchen staple to rid both your fridge and car of unwanted smells.

A guide on the right way to store your groceries can also help you save on your energy bills.

Mrs Hinch’s fans have also revealed a trick to keeping your fridge smelling fresh.

And an easy fix can prevent water from gathering at the bottom of your fridge.
