PETER O’MAHONY received a standing ovation from fans at the Aviva Stadium after being subbed off on his last game at home.
However, supporters watching the game at home were left fuming as they missed out on seeing him make the walk off the pitch.
O’Mahony, Conor Murray, and Cian Healy were all playing their last game at Lansdowne Road in the Six Nations clash against France.
The 35-year-old was picked to start on the day and was replaced in the second-half.
This led to the Aviva Stadium crowd giving him a standing ovation which was NOT picked up on the TV cameras.
It drew the ire of supporters who criticized the TV director.
One said: “Fair play to the camera man who showed the ref instead of the Peter O’Mahony standing ovation on leaving the field for last time in Dublin“
Another said: “Jaysus, you’d think the director could have flashed to O’Mahony taking the applause as he left the field!”
A third posted: “Peter O’Mahony walks off the Aviva in green for the last time… Sounded like a brilliant ovation.
“But yeah. Show us the ref. JUST THE REF. Give the people what they want. Ideal TV work.”
A fourth posted: “O’Mahony leaves the pitch for the last time and you guys zoom in on the ref for 40 seconds”
A fifth raged: “Really?!! Peter O’Mahony‘s last home game and the camera was on the ref?!!!! Disgraceful.
“Show us him leaving the pitch and the crowd applauding???!!!”
A sixth commented: “such such such poor camera work…
“O’Mahony last home game and no focus on him; instead close up on the ref; shocking…”
And a sixth lamented: “This is not an easy job, but Peter O’Mahony leaving the Dublin turf for the final time HAS to be shown.
“In fairness to the director the news about the yellow/ red at the same time isn’t ideal – but ……”
One moment that was picked up by the cameras was an emotional moment for Cian Healy before kick-off.
The Leinster prop, 37, visibly held back tears as Cian Ducrot sang Amhran na bhFiann and Ireland‘s Call.
It inspired similar emotion in fans who took to social media to express their appreciation for the titan.
