Three little-known Sky Q hacks revealed to instantly boost your TV box – including trick to unlock extra recording space

THERE are a number of easy hacks to get the most out of your Sky Q box – especially for the much-loved recordings.

The ability to record programmes on the box is one of the compelling features that Sky Q customers love.

Sky Q hidden features
Recording on the box is a favourite feature among Sky Q customers
Sky

In recent years, Sky has focused a lot of energy on its newer internet-based products Sky Glass and Sky Stream.

However, bosses recently assured fans of Sky Q that it will be “with us for a while” yet.

Sky Glass and Sky Stream rely on an internet connection to beam channels to your TV, instead of traditional satellite.

The pair don’t record programmes on a box locally, instead they are kept in the cloud.

One major advantage to this is that you don’t have any storage limits like Sky Q.

However, a small selection of titles may not be available to record on the cloud due to licensing issues.

Cloud-based recordings also expire, whereas you can keep them for as long as you want on a Sky Q box.

So if you’re sticking with Sky Q for its recording features, here are some little-known hacks to get out of it.

Unlock more space – and speed up downloads

If you find that you’re constantly running out of space on your Sky Q box there is one simple change that will ease the pressure and speed up downloads at the same time.

However, it does come at a sacrifice.

Sky Q downloads are set to HD by default.

But you can lower it to SD if you don’t mind losing out on picture quality.

SD recordings are a lot smaller, meaning you can fit more on your box.

And because they’re smaller, downloads are faster.

To do this go to:

  • Settings
  • Preferences
  • Change HD demand default download format to SD

Downloads not working

Sometimes on-demand downloads can become stuck randomly and leave you wondering what’s going on.

If you’re left waiting too long there is a trick to push them through.

And it’s simply by cancelling the download from the Downloading sub-menu.

Once that’s done, go and try downloading the title a second time and it should hopefully work.

If it doesn’t, there may be a problem with your broadband or Wi-Fi connection.

Restore recordings you’ve deleted

Deleting the wrong recording by accident is bound to happen.

But all is not lost – if you make this mistake, there is a trick to get them back for a limited time.

Go to Recordings, and find Deleted.

Here you’ll see everything you’ve deleted recently with a button to restore them.

Tricks for your Sky remote

Try a whole host of Sky tricks to take your TV to a whole new level.

Who is Nicholas Prosper?

On September 13, 2024, Nicholas Prosper from Luton killed his mother Juliana Falcon, 48, brother Kyle Prosper, 16, and sister Giselle Prosper, 13, in their home with a shotgun.

Police swarmed the flat at around 5.30 am following “welfare concerns”.

Horrified neighbours claimed they heard “loud bangs” that sounded like shots being fired.

Officers discovered Juliana and two of her four children dead inside the flat.

Prosper was arrested shortly afterward on Bramingham Road, where police found a loaded shotgun hidden in bushes with over 30 cartridges.

Paying tribute, the victims’ family said: “Julie was a strong, loving mother to her four beautiful children, who were her absolute world.”

“In her spare time, she was a keen athlete and enjoyed raising money for charity — she was always putting others first.

“Kyle was a kind and funny young man who loved football and boxing.

“He was creative and thriving on TikTok, a big talent with massive potential. Kyle’s friends were his everything.

“Giselle was a beautiful soul and caring young girl; she liked to laugh lots and loved her family and big brothers.”

Lea Manor High School headteacher Jess Pather also paid tribute to Giselle, saying: “We are deeply shocked at Lea Manor High School by the tragic incident that occurred on Friday in our local community.

“We are devastated by the loss of our pupil, Giselle Prosper. Giselle was a beautiful soul and a model pupil.

“She excelled in all her subjects and will be sorely missed, particularly by her friends in year nine.”

Planned school attack

During the investigation, authorities uncovered Prosper’s sick plan to carry out a mass shooting at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, which he attended as a youngster.

Thankfully he was intercepted by police before reaching the school, preventing further harm.

Prosper was charged with three counts of murder, as well as charges including illegal firearm possession, intent to endanger life and carrying a knife in public.

He appeared at Luton Crown Court on February 24, 2025, dressed in a black T-shirt and glasses, entering guilty pleas to all charges during a brief hearing.

Sentencing

As of February 25, Prosper remains in custody at HMP Peterborough and will be sentenced on March 5, 2025.

DCI Sam Khanna from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said: “This was a truly tragic and shocking case in which three innocent members of the same family have been brutally killed by their son and brother.

“No words can fully describe the tragedy their loved ones have experienced, and our thoughts continue to be with them at this difficult time.

“We are pleased that Prosper has pleaded guilty and will not put his family through the pain of a trial, and that he will soon face a significant jail sentence.

“What was subsequently uncovered during our investigation left no doubt as to his intentions to carry out an attack at a school, but fortunately Prosper was apprehended before he could cause any further harm.”

Beloved homeware chain shuts ALL stores with no notice leaving 1,000s out of pocket as boss admits ‘I failed big time’

A POPULAR homeware store boss admits “I failed big time” after all sites were forced to shut, leaving thousands out of pocket.

Every branch was axed, leaving horrified customers without a kitchen or a refund.

Kitchen Love owner Graham Griffiths (pictured) blames the company’s failure on ‘personnel problems’ and ‘landlords’[/caption]

Kitchen Love, a popular bespoke kitchen showroom chain, shut down all showrooms last year despite rave reviewers from loyal customers.

However, this shock closure left families who had paid for their dream kitchen in homeware hell as Kitchen Love refused to refund unfinished orders.

Company owner Graham Griffiths acknowledged the business blunder and admitted he made a mistake to furious customers.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “I ran the company – and I ran it wrong.

“I failed big time.”

He blamed the company’s downfall on “personnel problems” and “landlords moving the goalposts,” claiming he’d lost half a million pounds himself.

Amongst dismayed shoppers who Griffiths had “failed” are pensioners Colin and Liz Halliday, from Skelmersdale, who lost £6,000 in the company downfall.

After changing their mind and asking for a refund during the two-week cooling off period, they said their request was rejected.

Colin, 68, said: “It’s left me frightened of dealing with anyone else.

“My wife is devastated by it – she’s desperate for a new kitchen.

“We’re of pension age and we can’t afford to lose £6,000.”

Other customers were left without a refund and even without a kitchen.

Wendy and Gary Charlton, from Lancashire, paid £16,000 upfront to revamp their home.

Their old kitchen was removed last September, but to their horror, the new one never arrived.

The pair faced a plethora of “excuses” before realising the company had cash flow issues and simply couldn’t afford to supply them.

A distraught Gary said: “We had to pay another company to fit it. We paid for the whole thing twice.

“We had no means of claiming back because it was done by bank transfer.

“It’s a life lesson, I suppose. I’m still learning at 60.”

A few lucky Kitchen Love customers were able to claim the money back via their credit card issuer but not before they faced a long struggle.

Louise and Michael Twist were counting pennies for years to save up for their new Kitchen and even did credit checks on the firm to check it was legitimate.

They agreed to pay most of the sum, £30,000, in installments before any of the construction began.

After the existing kitchen was removed, forcing the family to cook meals with their outside barbecue, issues arose and there were severe delays with the new fittings.

When Kitchen Love builders arrived with what was said to be unboxed ex-display appliances, the pair refused them and sought a refund from their bank after the company stonewalled them.

Victims left feeling betrayed by the failed business came together on a WhatsApp group attempting to take legal action.

Those who were short-changed were furious and demanded Kitchen Love face consequences.

Unfortunately, cops said the company’s failure was a civil matter and those affected were told to speak to their bank for a refund or directed to Citizens Advice.

The Sun has reached out to Kitchen Love for a comment.

Hamilton is beginning a new chapter in his career by joining Ferrari, one of the most storied teams in F1.

The move ended his 12-year stint with Mercedes, where he became a seven-time world champion, clinching most of his 103 race victories and amassing his 104 pole positions.

Hamilton is set to debut with Ferrari during the official test drives in Bahrain this week.

And the Brit has highlighted his excitement at the new chapter of his F1 career.

He said: “I have to watch my diet. But that will be difficult.

“I have to be careful and I can’t eat pizza all year round. Otherwise I won’t fit in the car anymore.’

“Oh God. I’ve eaten so many pizzas in the last few weeks. But funnily enough, I’ve lost weight.

“Last week alone I had three pizzas. I love Italian food. Penne a la Arrabbiata is still my absolute favourite dish.”

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

Hamilton has a deep-rooted connection with Italy that dates back to his karting days.

He first cut his teeth in motorsport at the age of 13, racing in Italy with his first mechanic, Luca del Fante.

This included his time with the MBM team in the Open Italian Championship in 2000 and 2001 alongside Nico Rosberg, who later became his team-mate at Mercedes.

Hamilton added: “I still remember going into town with Nico every evening to buy pizza and ice cream. We ate so much pizza.

“Luca, my first mechanic, and his mother always made me an incredible lasagne.

“I have never forgotten that lasagne to this day.”

Ferrari’s hopes are pinned on Hamilton and his new teammate Charles Leclerc, who has confirmed his contract with Ferrari beyond 2024.

The pair will look to end Ferrari’s long-standing title drought since Kimi Raikkonen’s 2007 crown.

The driver market has been shaken by Hamilton’s move, leading to changes like Carlos Sainz‘s departure from Ferrari to Williams.

‘Whose day is it?’ trolls slam mother of the bride as she shows off glam ‘loves the limelight’ white wedding outfit

A MOTHER of the bride has sparked fury after choosing an incredibly glamorous dress to wear to her daughter’s big wedding day.

The woman decided to turn her back on the traditional types of outfits worn by newlyweds’ mothers and instead went all out.

The mother had opted for a white gown, which featured feather detailing and a corset-style back[/caption]

Looking confident, the tanned blonde posed up a storm in the chic white gown, which featured a midi skirt, feather detailing and a neckline.

The back of the white gown, which has since taken the internet by storm for all the wrong reasons, also boasted a corset-style detailing to cinch in the waist.

To complete the look, the woman went with sky-high white heels and topped it off with a gorgeous pearl choker around her neck and dazzling earrings.

”The bride’s mummy,” wedding planner Andrea Shillingford wrote as she shared the clip on TikTok.

It is not sure whether Andrea was the artist behind the mother’s jaw-dropping wedding entrance, which also included a glamourous up-do, as well as a flamboyant hat.

People were quick to comment on the video, with the majority of them criticising the mum for the outfit they thought was ”too much”.

Numerous TikTok users pointed out that the woman perhaps shouldn’t have chosen such an outfit considering it was her daughter’s big day.

”Whose day is it?” said one critic.

”it’s not your day remember,” a second reminded.

Someone else agreed, commenting: ”It’s your daughters day, not yours. She should be the focus of attention.”

The mother, whose identity remains unknown, was also said to ”love the limelight”, and some fashion critics compared the white frock to ”curtains”.

Others, meanwhile, others were blown away by the woman’s look for the wedding.

”well that mother looks absolutely beautiful,” said one fan of the glamorous gown.

Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette

If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.

  • Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
  • Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
  • Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream – even if it’s not.
  • Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
  • Wearing white is a massive no-no if you’re not the bride.

Another hit back at the trolls and said: ”the woman gets to show off their wealth and status on wedding days, it’s part of the culture, looking fabulous.”

”Stunning outfit in my opinion!” a third couldn’t get over the dress.

While there is no rule, dressing in white to a wedding has long been deemed “bad form” by etiquette experts, who claim it “distracts from the bride” on her big day.

In most cases, this is seen as a deliberate move to sabotage or even ruin the ceremony – and more often than not, this act is committed by a “jealous” new mother-in-law or a ex-partner.
