New £7.8million revamp to improve English seaside town and reopen ancient woodland

A HUGE multi-million project is set to revamp a number of UK seaside towns in the UK as well an abandoned woodland.

As part of the East Lindsey Investment Fund, the £7.8million scheme will improve a number of areas across Lincolnshire.

Skegness is also getting some improvements[/caption]

One of the main improvements includes new tourist activities at Sutton on Sea, as well as better parking options and infrastructure.

Named as one of the best places to live by the Sunday Times last year, the seaside town is already undergoing an number of improvements, which started back in 2023.

This includes a new £7.5million “beachfront cultural hub” with restaurant, lodges and art galleries that which is currently under construction.

But the new plans include another £1.8million for tourism upgrades, as well as more beautiful street furniture, signs and shop fronts.

East Lindsey’s biggest seaside town, Skegness, is also undergoing some improvements including a better car park to cope with the busy summer season.

The new scheme also includes the purchase of Harrison Woodlands.

The 483-acre abandoned ancient woodlands dates was first mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, making it one of the few surviving ancient woods in the UK.

However, it closed to the public back in 2023 and remains badly damaged and closed to the public.

Being bought by The Woodland Trust, the improvements will see the removal of dead trees and restoring the woods with new pathways before opening as an attraction again.

They explained on their website: “By removing invasive species like rhododendron, we’ll encourage a wide range of woodland indicator flowers like wood anemone, woodruff and bluebells to return.

“We’ll also remove large areas of trees severely affected by ash dieback. Installing deer fencing will allow for natural regeneration to take hold.

“As restoration progresses, we’re confident that warblers and breeding birds including great spotted woodpecker, treecreeper and tree sparrow will return to Harrison Woodlands.”

It hopes to reopen next year.

Councillor Craig Leyland, leader of East Lindsey District Council, said: “I am delighted that we can make this incredible investment into East Lindsey and its residents, businesses and visitors, supporting an array of fantastic projects and initiatives across an unprecedented number of themes and priorities.

“The awarding of these funds is just the start though.

“I am looking forward to continuing to work with our local communities in the months and years ahead to make these ideas a reality, and to establish East Lindsey as a wonderful tourist destination, as a flourishing economy and, most importantly, a place to call home.”

If you fancy owning your own part of Lincolnshire, you could even buy part of Skegness beach.

Four plots of the beach are currently on sale, for as little as £50,000.

Of course that’s for the smaller section, with the larger 3.5 acre site costing around £250,000.

But if you manage to splash out on it all, you could own a whopping 83.7 acres of the beach.

Can’t quite stretch to that? You can instead stay at Butlin’s new £12million holiday lodges which opened last summer.

And one mum explained why Skegness is a great staycation for kids.

MAFS stars drop HUGE hint they’re back together after emotional reunion episode and shock split

A MAFS star has dropped a huge hint that she’s back together with her ex – after an emotional reunion episode, and their shock split.

It was revealed in November last year that Tasha Jay and Paula Liba had split up.

The reunion saw a mix of 2024 and 2023 stars in attendance[/caption]

They took part in the 2023 series of Married At First Sight, and had been a strong couple after living the show, so their split came as a surprise to fans.

And as the reunion episode aired on Monday night, MAFS fans watched as an emotional Tasha saw Paul for the first time since their split.

When it came to the honesty box, the question was posed as to whether they could see themselves getting back together.

They both admitted that they’d have said no before that night, but that seeing each other could’ve changed that.

In a further hint that things could be back on between the pair, Tasha posted on her Instagram stories while watching the reunion episode last night, and she was seen FaceTiming Paul.

She was watching the show with co-star Holly Ditchfield, but the pair shared a picture with Paul on the phone.

Tasha grinned away as she held up Paul on her phone, while wearing her headphones.

And Holly penned: “Gotta watch the ep with these two, we’re sat ready…” before tagging them both.

After emotional scenes between herself and ex Paul that saw them getting emotional and hugging, Tasha has shared her thoughts on the reunion episode.

She wrote to her Instagram followers: “Guys tonight was so so emotional having to relive that all over again.

“It is not a normal situation to have to watch your break up so right now I’m just trying to take it all in.

“I am so overwhelmed with all the lovely comments and I appreciate every single one of you.”

Tasha’s statement comes after The Sun exclusively revealed that Paul had moved on from his relationship with Tasha with another member of the MAFS cast, Hannah Norburn.

The new romance seemed to have been news to Tasha, who took to Instagram with a series of veiled swipes on her Stories.

One message read: “B***h stop acting innocent before I tell you something you ain’t think I knew.”

A second message, posted alongside a string of rat emojis, added: “I’m bad at arguing I’d rather slap the f**k outta you actually.”

Then, in what appeared to be another swipe at her ex, Tasha hit out at “begs” on her Instagram stories.

She was doing a Q&A with fans, when one person asked how much her life had changed since being on MAFS.

Tasha responded: “It’s changed in the sense of I now get incredible opportunities and meet inspirational people and the odd person may recognise me here and there.

“Also I have a platform to raise awareness for T1 Diabetes which is something I’ve always dreamed of.

“By my life will never change I would still rather spend the day at the farm with the kids than be a beg like some people.”

Gardai probe if man, 66, who died on couch in Cork house drank lethal ‘home-made’ alcohol as bottles taken into evidence

A MAN who was found dead in his home in Cork yesterday afternoon may have been poisoned after drinking a home-made brew.

The 66-year-old, was found unresponsive by gardai who rushed to an emergency call received at around 4pm.

They found the man, who is originally from Poland, lying unresponsive on a couch in the living room of his home in Midleton.

Paramedics were unable to revive him and he was  pronounced dead at the scene, a short time later.

His wife was also found in an unwell state but conscious at the bottom of the stairs.

She was treated by paramedics in the apartment before she was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where she was treated for suspected alcohol poisoning.

Sources say that gardai found a number of bottles in the apartment and believe the couple may have consumed lethal home-made alcohol.

The bottles have been taken into evidence and are being sent to the forensic science laboratory for analysis.

A postmortem examination will be done by assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster today.

Gardai hope the results will reveal the cause of death but, because of the unusual nature of the death, toxicology tests will also have to be done.

All of this will determine the course of the Garda investigations.

If, as suspected, the death and illness was caused by the consumption of a dangerous alcohol product, they will be seeking to establish if there is more of this in circulation and from where it was originally sourced by the couple.

Gardai have spoken to the couple’s daughter who told them she had been in contact with her parents within the last few days.

Investigating officers are not treating the death and the illness as suspicious.

They have ruled out foul play and have found nothing to indicate anyone else was in the apartment.

DEATH ‘CURRENTLY UNEXPLAINED’

The man’s death will be the subject of an inquest in the Coroner’s Court.

In a statement gardai said “Gardai in Midleton have commenced an investigation following the discovery of a body in Co Cork on 24th February 2025.

“Shortly after 4pm, Gardai responded to a report of an incident at a residential property in Broomfield West, Midleton, where an adult male (understood to be in his 60s) was found unresponsive. He was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

“An adult female who was also present was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

“The scene is preserved for forensic examination. The local Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination by the State Pathologist will be arranged.

“The man’s death is currently unexplained, and the post-mortem results will assist Gardai in determining the course of their investigations”.

Gardai in Midleton are appealing for any information that may prove useful in their enquiries.
