Inside Lewis Hamilton’s first day at Ferrari as he instantly surprises new bosses at first official day of F1 testing

LEWIS HAMILTON was keen to make a good impression on his first day in the office.

The stylish seven-time world champion is known for strolling into the paddock in a couture outfit that looked fresh off the runway.

But on the first day of official testing in Bahrain, Hamilton was in bright and early as the second driver to arrive in the paddock, and to many’s surprise he was suited and booted in full Ferrari kit.

He was reunited with his trusted physiotherapist Angela Cullen who was buzzing around the paddock, having left her role as Hamilton’s performance coach in 2023 after seven-years together.

The 50-year-old from New Zealand was also on site early and was seen delivering breakfast for Hamilton on a tray, with the Brit still following a strict vegan diet.

Hamilton meant business and was so eager to get in the car that he nearly fell off the back of a golf buggy as he was dropped off at the Ferrari garage with teammate Charles Leclerc.

The Brit’s iconic 44 number has also made the switch and was seen on the side of the red Ferrari car instead of Mercedes’ black and green, where Hamilton spent the last 12-years.

The number, which pays tribute to Hamilton’s karting days and his dad, has featured since he was eight as it was his dad’s car registration number.

In a previous interview, he said: “I always start with the number 44 because that’s the number that I had on my go-kart when I was eight-years-old.

“It was my dad’s car registration number, F44, so each year, it’s just a new chance to rise to the challenge.”

Hamilton ended his full testing debut for Ferrari in fifth and he was one of the first to emerge from the pit-lane and he had what looked like spiky armour on the outside of his Ferrari.

The equipment is called an ‘aero rake’ which is a metal frame fitted with multiple sensors that teams attach to different areas of the car.

They are usually behind the front wheels, near the sidepods, or at the rear and they are mounted temporarily during test runs to measure airflow characteristics around the car.

Sky Sports’ Ted Kravitz said: “I was interested to see that aero rake on Hamilton’s car on his first run, measuring what’s going on with the front wing.

“It’s one of the technical talking points of the early part of the year.”

Day one of testing in Bahrain was Hamilton’s first chance to get a true feel of the SF-25 car, after the Brit and Leclerc took part in a shakedown last week at Ferrari’s home track at Fiorano.

It would have been tough for him to get up to speed given the short and tight nature of the Italian circuit.

Hamilton will just have 12 hours of running available to him ahead of the first race in Melbourne on March 16.

Most notably, he will have to get to grips with the Ferrari power unit having made the switch from Mercedes.

He has only driven with Mercedes power throughout his career, including during his six-years at McLaren.

F1 commentator David Croft added: “There will be huge attention on Lewis, as there always is. Particularly as he makes his first few laps on Ferrari power. His entire career so far has been powered by Mercedes engines.”

The period home is described as “handsome and distinguished” on the listing.

It sits on a site expanding to 1.53 acres, which is complete with a stone-walled courtyard.

There are also several outbuildings that are in need of restoration, allowing the new owner to put their own spin on them.

The property was restored some years ago but has been unoccupied for some time, leading to its dilapidated appearance.

Estate agents noted that it “requires a fortunate buyer who can restore it to its former glory”.

“Given the rarity of such dwellings coming to the market, this sale presents a wonderful opportunity for buyers with vision and an appreciation for such opportunities.”

Upon entering the home, guests are met first with a porch and hallway, measuring 12.10 square metres.

It has window shutters, a ceiling rose, a radiator and wood flooring – but is in need of refurbishment.

Next is the living room, measuring 4.8m x 3.47m with Tongue and Groove flooring, a cast iron fireplace with a granite hearth, recessed book shelves, window shutters, ornate coving, and a radiator.

This room is in need of a large amount of refurbishment, with paint peeling off the walls and a significant amount of dirt, debris and damage to the floor.

The drawing room measures 4.84m x 4.06m and features a cast iron fireplace with a granite inset and hearth, period style radiators, coving & ceiling rose and brass switches and sockets.

The room benefits from a good amount of natural light from two windows, which both have shutters.

Next is the kitchen and dining room, measuring 6.58m x 3.52m.

It is still fitted with old and damaged cupboards and aging appliances.

It has a solid fuel cooker, T&G wood flooring, a built in wine rack and a radiator.

A French door leads to the rear gardens and courtyard.

The back hall measures 2.45m x 1.36m and is fitted with a semi glazed door leading outside.

The utility room is 2.49m x 2.43m, and has a tiled floor, fitted units and is plumbed for a washing machine.

TOP FLOOR

Upstairs, the first floor landing spans 4.91m x 1.05m, with two lantern light fittings, and windows with shutters.

The first bedroom measures 4.98m x 4.22m, and has an arch vaulted ceiling, T&G wood flooring, two radiators, a built in vanity/cupboard unit and a cast iron fireplace with marble hearth.

The second bedroom measures 4.93m x 3.80m and is complete with two windows with shutters, two radiators, a fireplace, a built-in closet and a brass ceiling candelabra.

The third bedroom measures 6.70 square metres, while the bathroom spans 3.42m x 1.73m.

This bathroom has an arch vaulted ceiling, wainscotting & cupboards, a cast iron bath, a wc and a whb.

It also has an ornate light fitting and a radiator.

The property also features a cloaks area measuring 2.19m x 1.1m.

To the front of the property there is a large area for several cars to park and access to the side paddock.

LARGE COURTYARD

To the back of the house is a large rear garden and original stone courtyard.

The courtyard is comprised of the original coach house, stables, harness room, cow and calf houses, dairy, piggery, foul house, turf house and a potato house.

These original buildings could be demolished or restored to suit the new owner’s vision.

Mohedian House is just a few minutes from the Carrick/Elphin/Roscommon Rd, R368, and Carrick town centre.

The property is surrounded by a number of unspoilt country walks and loughs.

Croghan Village is located just a few minutes drive away, offering a range of amenities to the new residents.

The home is BER exempt and may be eligible for the Vacant Home Grant.

Australian radio DJ Marty Sheargold axed after ‘disgusting’ and ‘horrendous’ comments about women’s football

The 53-year-old claimed he would “rather hammer a nail through the head of his penis” than watch the team in next year’s Asian Cup.

He compared the players to “year 10 girls” with “all the infighting and all the friendship issues”.

The comments came during an update on the Matildas at the SheBelieves Cup.

Sheargold interrupted, saying: “Oh, she believes in what? It better be men.”

The stand-up comic added he was “sorry to undermine the whole sport, but that’s what I think of it.”

Referring to the 2023 World Cup held Down Under, he continued: “There’s something wrong with the Matildas. They had that wonderful tournament out here where we all fell in love with them, even though they didn’t make the quarters.”

Sheargold later “sincerely apologised” and was set to appear on his show today – only to be taken off air by Triple M.

The station said: “It takes its responsibility to listeners, shareholders, and clients seriously and its programming should align with the standards and expectations of its audience.

“Right now, it’s clear this is a moment for reflection and review. Triple M, and the wider SCA network, will continue to take all necessary steps to support staff.”

Matildas stars Alex Chidiac and Clare Wheeler slammed Sheargold’s comments as “sick”.

Hockey ace Rosie Malone said they were “disgusting” and “horrendous”.

The Australian FA wrote: “They not only diminish the extraordinary achievements and contributions of our women’s national football team but also fail to recognise the profound impact they have had on Australian sport and society”.

EASTENDERS bosses have secretly built a massive new set expansion – and it even comes with a nod to the King.

The studio plot in Elstree has been undergoing an £87m revamp for years and now the next stage is nearing completion.

Parts of the old set have been utilised to create new streets and locations in Walford for the soap to film on.

The huge expansion includes a parade of shops on ‘Charles Street’ as well as a hospital, a new police station, a box-park style eating area, a gaming bar and a rival garage for future storylines.

King Charles, 76, and wife Camilla, 77,  appeared in a special episode of EastEnders back in June 2022 to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee which saw the couple attend a street party organised by Danny Dyer’s character Mick Carter.

During the walkabout Charles also enjoyed a cheeky Jamaican rum with Walford legend Patrick Trueman.

A source said: “The soap is celebrating 40 years on our screens and what better way to mark it than expanding the existing set with exciting new places to film.

“And of special course a nod to the King of England with the new street.

“Everyone has such fond memories of his appearance a few years ago with Camilla.

“Building works have been going on for some time but it’s hoped that it will be finished this summer

“It’s all really exciting and there’s a real buzz on set especially with everything around the 40th.”

Last week devastated viewers watched as Martin Fowler died saving Stacy Slater from the Queen Vic collapse.

Actor James Bye left the soap after the live episode after ten years playing Martin.

Martin was the first baby born on EastEnders with his mother’s later in life pregnancy being revealed in the very first episode.

Killer Reiss Colwell also died having been crushed by a bathtub while trying to force Sonia Fowler to go into labour with him there.

An EastEnders spokeswoman declined to comment.
