iPhone 16e pre-orders – where to buy budget Apple phone with ‘killer feature’

ALL hail Apple’s latest smartphone! The iPhone 16e is now available to pre-order.

Apple’s first budget-friendly AI phone is packed with features – read on to find out where it’s available to buy.

iPhone 16e in black and white.
The iPhone 16e is Apple’s affordable addition to its most recent range of smartphones

This February sees the launch of a brand-new iPhone, just as three popular models have been discontinued.

The iPhone 16e was made available to pre-order last Friday (21st February), and will go on general sale tomorrow (Friday 28th February).

The Sun’s Tech Editor Sean Keach got his hands on this new smartphone, and in his iPhone 16e review describes it as ‘a phoenix rising from the ashes’.

‘The killer feature?’ writes Sean. ‘It has to be the battery life.’

It seems to be positioned by Apple as a follow-up to its budget-friendly iPhone SE series, the last of which was released in 2022.

The all-new 16e comes with many of the features of the rest of the iPhone 16 range.

You can create your own emoji, edit people out of your selfies (goodbye, photobombers), and even get your notifications summarised so you don’t waste time scrolling through everything.

Here’s everything you need to know about the iPhone 16e, including the price and where to pre-order.

DEAL ALERT

Get 3 months free Apple TV+ & £10 Currys gift card

Mobiles.co.uk is offering some nice giveaways with its iPhone 16e plans. Pre-order the new device, and you can also claim 3 months Apple TV+, Apple Music or Apple Arcade.

On top of that, you can claim a £10 Currys Gift Card.

Contracts start at £25.99 per month at Mobiles.co.uk

Apple iPhone 16e price

The iPhone 16e starts at £599 for the base model, which comes with 128GB of storage.

If you need more space, you’ll need to spend £699 for the 256GB version and £899 for the 512GB model.

The 16e is priced within what feels more like mid-range territory, compared to the 2022 iPhone SE, which cost £419 when it launched.

But compared to the iPhone 16, which starts at £799 for the same 128GB storage, it’s a much cheaper – if not outright cheap – device.

Apple iPhone 16e – where to pre-order

The iPhone 16e is available to buy SIM-free basis, which is ideal if you’ve already got a SIM contract.

But if you’d rather spread the cost, you can also pick it up on a pay-monthly deal from pretty much all major UK providers.

iPhone 16e vs iPhone 16: What’s the difference?

The iPhone 16e and iPhone 16 may look similar, but there are key differences to consider.

The iPhone 16e has a single 48MP main camera with 1x and 2x optical zoom, while the iPhone 16 adds a 12MP ultra-wide lens for more versatile shots.

The iPhone 16 also packs advanced features like macro photography and Cinematic mode for 4K Dolby Vision, which the 16e lacks.

On the front, the iPhone 16 includes Apple’s Dynamic Island for an interactive display experience, while the 16e sticks to the older notch design.

Both phones feature OLED screens, but the iPhone 16 is brighter, with up to 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness compared to the 16e’s 1,200 nits.

MagSafe compatibility is another big difference.

The iPhone 16 supports MagSafe accessories and faster wireless charging, but the 16e only offers basic Qi wireless charging at up to 7.5W.

Both devices share the A18 chip, but the 16e has a slightly less powerful four-core GPU.

But the 16e pulls ahead in battery life, offering up to 26 hours of video playback versus the iPhone 16’s 22 hours.

The 16e is a solid budget choice, but the iPhone 16 offers more for photography and accessory fans.

Lewis Hamilton on racing until 50, slamming ‘older white’ critics and getting ‘lit up’ by Mercedes staff at paintball

AT the age of 40, most F1 drivers are in the slow lane to retirement.

But not Lewis Hamilton, who is ready to make his childhood “dream” come true by getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari F1 car.

The seven-time world champ spoke to Time Magazine about his move to the Scuderia

The seven-time world champion fell in love with the red of the Scuderia by driving Michael Schumacher’s car in video games.

Ferris Bueller’s 1961 250 GT California Spyder has always been Hamilton’s dream vehicle.

But despite this, it was far from a straightforward decision when he was offered the chance to ditch Mercedes for Ferrari.

Hamilton spent a few days meditating before deciding it was “the right thing for me”.

In an interview with Time Magazine, Hamilton reveals he has “never been so excited” despite nerves ahead of the first Grand Prix of the season in Australia on March 16.

It would be easy for Hamilton to put his feet up and end as one of the best drivers to ever grace the sport.

But Hamilton is firing back at claims he should retire and at those who have slammed his switch to Ferrari.

He said: “You can’t stand still for too long. I needed to throw myself into something uncomfortable again.

“What I can tell you is, retirement is nowhere on my radar. I could be here until I’m 50, who knows.

“The old man is a state of mind. Of course your body ages. But I’m never going to be an old man.”

There has been fierce criticism from F1 legend Eddie Jordan, who branded the Italian team’s decision to axe Carlos Sainz from their line-up as “absolutely suicidal”.

Ex-Ferrari driver Jacky Ickx claims Hamilton’s move is a marketing ploy to bring the glamour back to the brand.

Even Mercedes principal Toto Wolff said he believes “everyone has a shelf life”.

But Hamilton said: “I’ve always welcomed the negativity. I never, ever reply to any of the older, ultimately, white men who have commented on my career and what they think I should be doing.

“How you show up, how you present yourself, how you perform slowly dispels that.”

Nothing is distracting him from his dream of an eighth world title[/caption]

Winning his eighth title is firmly in sights and nothing is distracting him during his new life in Maranello, adding: “Don’t ever compare me to anybody else.

“I’m the first and only black driver that’s ever been in this sport. I’m built different. I’ve been through a lot. I’ve had my own journey.

“You can’t compare me to another 40-year-old, past or present, Formula One driver in history. Because they are nothing like me.

“I’m hungry, driven, don’t have a wife and kids. I’m focused on one thing, and that’s winning. That’s my No1 priority.”

Despite Wolff’s comments among others, Hamilton remains on good terms with the people at Mercedes.

Even if they got their own back during their annual team-bonding paintball session when one of Hamilton’s own team-mates hilariously fired at him.

He admitted: “They lit me up, hard. It was so painful.”

After dusting himself down, the Stevenage-born star was all smiles with Wolff and George Russell at the recent F1 75 launch event at London’s O2 Arena.

All teams unveiled their liveries ahead of the 2025 season, with Hamilton taking to the stage in red.

“I’m in red, I’m like, whoa. The suit looked so good on me. I’m like, Damn. It’s a really, really special moment,” says Hamilton.

Despite his pure focus on the track, his calendar is full as he manages a production company, a clothing line and he always keeps at the height of fashion.

Acting could also be on the horizon for Hamilton amid his co-producer rule for the new Brad Pitt film F1.

The movie hits the big screens in June and Hamilton is playing a huge role in making the film as realistic as possible.

Hamilton has rubbed shoulders with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in recent years – even taking Pitt for a spin to give him a taste of being a racing driver.

Top Gun and F1 director Joseph Kosinski revealed: “He gave Brad the scare of a lifetime in a lap.

“Brad was clawing at the windows, begging to get out.”

On Hamilton’s role in the new movie, Kosinski added: “He opened all those doors for us into that world.

“We would not have been able to do this without him.”

Hamilton is ready for hit to break box office records, saying: “It’s going to blow away anything that’s ever been done in Formula One before.”
