Rio Ferdinand names four Man Utd stars worth £236MILLION who do not fit Ruben Amorim’s system

RIO Ferdinand has named four Manchester United stars worth a staggering £236MILLION who do not fit in Ruben Amorim’s system.

The former Old Trafford defender has warned progress under the Portuguese’s 3-4-3 set-up has been much slower then expected.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 07: Harry Maguire of Manchester United celebrates scoring his team's second goal with team mates Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund during the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round match between Manchester United and Leicester City at Old Trafford on February 07, 2025 in Manchester, England. Ferdinand highlighted that certain players lack the required physicality

Arriving on the back of a wave of optimism following the departure of Erik ten Hag, armed with his own style of play, few United fans would have predicted their current plight.

The Red Devils just about beat relegation strugglers Ipswich 3-2 on Wednesday night, after more unforgivable howlers from Andre Onana and a straight red for Patrick Dorgu.

Harry Maguire’s header rescued United in their time of need after Sam Morsy’s own-goal and Matthijs de Ligt’s tap-in were cancelled out by two Jaden Philogene-Bidace goals.

Amorim’s project is only in its infancy, but fans want results and Ferdinand believes at least four players are unsuited to the 3-4-3.

Ferdinand thinks Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and this week’s goalscorers Maguire and De Ligt lack the physicality to thrive in Amorim’s new era at Old Trafford.

The 46-year-old pundit told TNT Sports: “I think if we’re being brutally honest, there hasn’t been the progress that we all anticipated.

“This team aren’t a mobile, dynamic team. If you look through the heartbeat of this team they have other qualities.

“But being physical, having the ability to overrun teams physically – they don’t have that capacity.

Asked whether Zirkzee was one of those who fits the bill, Ferdinand responded: “No… De Ligt, Maguire, Hojlund, it’s not their game.

“So I think he needs to find those type of players with the capabilities of carrying out not only tactically what he wants, but the physicality is equally important.”

Man Utd ratings vs Ipswich as Maguire saves the day after Onana makes case to be WORST ever signing

MANCHESTER UNITED eased their fears of the drop in a topsy-turvy relegation six-pointer with Ipswich.

The Red Devils triumphed 3-2 despite playing the second half with ten men.

A major cock-up from Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana saw Ipswich take a third-minute lead through Jaden Philogene.

Then, after United had recovered to lead 2-1, Dorgu saw a straight red card for a poor challenge on Omari Hutchinson.

Philogene scored again to level it before the break only for Harry Maguire to nod in to be United’s saviour.

But who was United’s best player on the night?

Here, SunSport’s Phil Thomas reveals his Manchester United player ratings…

Amorim’s first 16 Premier League games have yielded just 18 points despite initial optimism.

The four players mentioned by Ferdinand were signed by United at a cost of £236million, although none by Amorim himself.

Maguire joined for a record-shattering £85m from Leicester in 2019, while United splashed out £43m for De Ligt in the summer.

Fans are growing frustrated with £72m flop Hojlund and Zirkzee came for around £36m in the summer.

Part of Amorim’s expected overhaul of the squad will involve determining which players possess the required attributes to play his system.

But whether United can afford a reset is a totally different story as the Red Devils will need to sell several players in order to buy given their financial concerns.

United sit 14th in Prem and know their best route into Europe lies elsewhere.

As FA Cup holders, they still have a chance to reach the Europa League with another Wembley win, while triumphing in Europe‘s second tier competition would see them return to the Champions League.

The first steps on both of those paths will come against Fulham and Real Sociedad respectively in a huge week for Amorim’s United.

And fans are fearing that Amorim could start feuding with Alejandro Garnacho, after he stormed down the tunnel following his substitution when United were down to 10 men.

Haven holiday park reveals new Wetherspoons pub opening next month as part of £6.7million revamp

ANOTHER Wetherspoons pub is opening at a Haven park in the UK next month.

The second of its kind in the UK, Haven Cleethorpes Beach has revealed the new The Humber Stone.

The £1.7million pub is opening on March 7, in line with the reopening of the holiday park for the 2025 season.

Guests will be able to visit from 8am although booze won’t be served until 10am.

Along with the iconic carpets, it will stay open as late as 1am on Saturdays in the peak summer season.

Off season, this goes down to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 11pm for the rest of the week.

The name comes from it’s location in Humberston, believed to have been named from a glacial boulder by early settlers.

The Humber Stone’s manager Ben Coulbeck said they were “thrilled” to start the season with a new pub.

Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson added: “We are looking forward to the opening of The Humber Stone.

“We are confident that the pub will be a great addition to the holiday park and be popular with people of all ages.”

The opening of the pub is part of a £6.7million project which will see three other Wetherspoons open at Haven.

Last year, The Five Stones at Haven Primrose Valley was the first Wetherspoons pub to open on-site.

Named after five Roman stones found in the area, the pub has 250 seats and pints as cheap as £2.80.

Another three Wetherspoons have since been announced at Haven as well.

This includes Kent Coast, Devon Cliffs and Haggerston Castle.

And last year, new plans revealed another could open at Haven Presthaven, if given the go-ahead.

It is part of a wider £8.3million investment on food and drink at the parks.

If you’re trying to work out which Haven park to visit, we’ve found the biggest in the UK which has new tube slides and even a beach bar.

Or Haven’s Kent Coast is loved by a very famous footballer who you might spot while there.

And one mum has revealed some of the secret areas you may not realise exist at Haven parks.

Glasgow cafe loved by BBC comedian closes after 30 years as star calls it a ‘noble institution’

A GLASGOW cafe branded a “noble institution” by a BBC comedian has closed after 30 years.

The star shared a tribute on social media after the restaurant announced its closure in October last year.

Cafe GoGo, in Glasgow’s West End on Cresswell, Lane revealed it was closing by advertising the space as “available to lease” after running for 30 years.

Of one their loyal customers is Scottish comedian and writer Frankie Boyle, who frequented the cafe and was sad to see it go – saying the gluten-free biscuits were a particular favourite of his.

The cafe lacked WiFi according to the outspoken Scot, and for this reason, it was one of his favourite spots.

Without the disturbance of the internet, Boyle was able to write on interrupted – although he wonders if this was why the venue was being forced to shut.

On social media, he shared: “Farewell to this noble institution and its gluten-free Empire biscuits.

“The WiFi hadn’t worked for eight years, which may have been a factor in its demise.

“I could write there and avoid the distractions of the internet, or other customers.

“Rest easy.”

Cafe GoGo served a range of breakfast and lunch dishes from toast, pancakes, and fry-ups to sandwiches, soups, and salads.

It was one of the area’s longest-running and largest coffee shops and offered seating and snacks to go.

With the lease coming to an end, the current declared they were looking for someone to take their place and run the joint – which is priced at £69,950.

The popular cafe detailed the closure on Facebook, writing in October: “The well-loved West End institution Cafe GoGo is now available for lease in the prime West End location of Cresswell Lane.

“Parallel to Byres Road, it benefits from being within a busy thoroughfare for students and the general public going to and from the neighbouring Cafe Andaluz and Zizzi’s as well as the bustle of Ashton Lane which houses bars, restaurants and the historic Grosvenor Picture Theatre.

“This well-kept unit won’t be available long and would be ideal for anyone from a national brand to someone looking for an exciting self-employment opportunity.

“Prior to closing, the business benefited from high levels of repeat custom from locals and visitors to the area.”

Residents, students, and passersby were all fond of the venue, not to mention former Mock the Week panellists.

Customers are wondering what will replace the cafe and who will take over the “well-loved West End institution.”

With 3.5 stars on TripAdvisor, and rated the number 154 of all cafes in Glasgow, the spot received a range of reviews with most of them singing the little local’s praises.

What is happening to the hospitality industry?

By Laura McGuire, consumer reporter

Many Food and drink chains have been struggling in recently as the cost of living has led to fewer people spending on eating out.

Businesses had been struggling to bounce back after the pandemic, only to be hit with soaring energy bills and inflation.

Multiple chains have been affected, resulting in big-name brands like Wetherspoons and Frankie & Benny’s closing branches.

Some chains have not survived, Byron Burger fell into administration last year, with owners saying it would result in the loss of over 200 jobs.

Pizza giant, Papa Johns is shutting down 43 of its stores soon.

Tasty, the owner of Wildwood, said it will shut sites as part of major restructuring plans

One customer said: “Does what it says on the tin, unpretentious reasonably priced cafe.

“Would come here for a bacon or fried egg roll and coffee, all hot and tasty.”

Another happy diner said: “After a long time away we called into our favourite wee bistro in the West End.

“You always get a lovely welcome from the staff and as always their carrot coriander and coconut soup was delish.”

A third shared: “I have already given this cafe a review and cannot praise it enough.

“The staff are so nice and whenever we’re in the West end it’s our ‘go go’ to place.”

Now on Google the beloved venue is marked as “permanently closed” and coffee-lovers and writers will have to look elsewhere to their caffeine fix and internet escape.

Vital new cars brought in to deliver urgent medical supplies in bad weather from blood to breast milk

A FLEET of cars that deliver urgent blood when conditions are hazardous for motorcycles has clocked up more than 40,000 miles in just three months.

The volunteer-run Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Cheshire Blood Bikes charity added four cars to its fleet of 18 motorbikes to guarantee vital deliveries in poor weather conditions, for larger items, and long-distance drives.

The additions mean the organisation can now operate reliably 24/7, 365 days a year with no break in their service.

Since launching in mid-December, the Dacia Jogger vehicles have covered 43,865 miles in total – with 19,353 in January alone.

Due to an icy start to 2025 making roads hazardous for motorcycles, the cars have completed 620 jobs, including transporting blood and other medical items such as donated breast milk.

The car was chosen as a preference to small vans by the charity for its practicality, reliability, and affordability.

Blood Bikes typically travel more than 375,000 miles a year and undertake 7,000 urgent medical deliveries for NHS hospitals across Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Cheshire.

Jeremy Cartwright, chair of the charity, said: “Having cars in our fleet allows us to take on very long runs or to transport larger items when needed, but the primary use for the Dacia Jogger vehicles is to protect our service during bad weather.

“We take on an increasing number of time-critical jobs where the delivery is linked to a specific theatre operation – in the past, if we were unable to send a bike due to bad weather, the operation could be cancelled. Now we send a car instead.

“We primarily undertake urgent jobs which cannot be done using the hospital’s regular transport.

“If we are not available, the hospital will book a specialist courier or taxi, which can delay treatment and be costly.

“Adding the Dacia Joggers to our fleet provides increased service flexibility and choice for our volunteers, as well as saving the NHS money.”

Luke Broad, from the car brand, said: “This charity does an absolutely incredible job of helping the NHS and public.

“Their work is vital, and we are so pleased to help play a key support role.”
