BBC boss QUITS to work for firm behind streaming giant Netflix’s biggest shows and says ‘hindsight is a wonderful thing’

BBC boss Charlotte Moore has quit her job to work for organisations which have created some of the biggest TV shows for streaming giants such as Netflix.

She will become CEO of Left Bank Pictures, who are best known for making The Crown for Netflix and are likely to deliver a highly lucrative prequel series based on the royal drama in the coming year.

Charlotte, 56, is leaving her role as Chief Content Officer and will have a second role at Sony Pictures Television, who own Left Bank.

The company also make huge shows for Netflix, including Cobra Kai and Outlander.

Speaking in a statement today, she said: “I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved during my time at the helm, transforming our offer and supporting iPlayer to become the fastest growing streamer in the UK.

She added: “So it’s been a tough decision to leave a job I love and an institution I believe in.”

Charlotte joined the Beeb in 2006 as a commissioning executive for documentaries before becoming controller of BBC One in 2013 and since 2020 has been a member of the BBC Board.

She is currently paid £470,000-474,999 but is expected to earn a great deal more working with such huge global organisations.

Hits commissioned during her time in charge included Happy Valley, Ghosts, The Traitors and Race Across the World.

In her time as a documentary commissioning editor.

She was responsible for one of the corporation’s biggest hits, The Great British Bake Off, which was eventually taken from the Beeb by Channel 4.

Tim Davie, BBC director-general, described her as “a creative powerhouse and real visionary who has made a huge impact during her time at the BBC”.

Charlotte, a huge supporter of public service broadcasting, has previously criticised the streamers.

She said the influence of the likes of Netflix meant that: “The television landscape is increasingly being defined by what will deliver the biggest profits for companies, not the best programmes for audiences.

In a speech in 2018 she warned that streamers were obsessed with using algorithms to work out what viewers wanted but the BBC were willing to take more risks to provide viewers with what they want.

Charlotte added: “Sure, audience data and algorithms are great and incredibly useful; we can learn so much from what’s working for audiences and what’s not, we can understand how to tailor our services.

“But I don’t believe any amount of data can tell you what to commission next.

“As the incentives of the biggest players become ever more commercial and cautious, ours need to become ever more creative and bold.

“As their focus becomes more global, ours must become more local.

“As their decisions are de-risked by data, we need to risk more to tell the stories that matter most.”

Costco Shoppers Are Abandoning These 6 Products: “Absolute Trash”

Plenty of items from Costco have a cult following—the rotisserie chickens, Kirkland vodka (some say it's actually Grey Goose), and, of course, those food court hot dogs. But for every vocal superfan of the warehouse club, there's probably an equally outspoken naysayer. And many of them have taken to Reddit to air their grievances about the quality of certain Costco products. From the muffins to windshield wipers, these are the items shoppers say they'll never buy again.

1. Chicken breasts and thighs

At most Costco stores, there's an entire refrigerator filled with Kirkland brand air-chilled chicken breasts and thighs, which are only about $3.72 and $2.23 a pound, respectively. But shoppers say the low prices don't make it worth it.

"Their bulk packs of chicken thighs are extremely fatty and taste pretty gamey. Their bulk packs of breast end up thawing pretty rubbery," shared one Redditor. "I’m back to buying fresh a la carte from the grocery store. It’s not worth a few bucks of savings to be disappointed with dinner."

Several others described the breasts as "woody," meaning they're tough and/or chewy, while others commented on how abnormally large they are.

"I can’t imagine the size of the monster chicken they’re harvested from and how unnatural of a being it would have to be," said a member.

Still others commented on how much liquid is in the packs of chicken.

2. Cat food

When it comes to Kirkland cat food, it's not just a taste issue.

"Two of my cats got urinary issues about 4 months after switching to Kirkland," shared a frustrated shopper.

"The canned cat food made my cats sick and we started reading it wasn’t just our cats," agreed another.

To that point, there are several other Reddit threads where cat parents have warned others about their experience with the food.

In one, someone shared, "All 3 of my cats got diarrhea when I started the food. I returned it after a week. No issues since."

"Tried the kirkland cat food for my several cats and every single cat became ill with bloody vomit, one cat vomiting frank red blood. Stopped the kirkland food and they were not vomiting blood anymore," claimed another Costco shopper.

3. Bananas

Unless you're partial to unripened bananas, you may not want to buy the fruit at Costco.

"I’ve had bananas never turn yellow from Costco," said a shopper, to which several other shoppers agreed. "They sat on the counter for 2 months in the green state before they started to shrivel a little," they added.

However, a fellow shopper offered some advice: "If they are too green they were picked too early and will not ripen. Never buy bananas that aren't showing at least a hint of yellow."

4. Muffins

Costco's muffins have been a hot topic for the past few months.

As Best Life reported in December, shoppers began posting about how the baked goods had gotten smaller: "A photo of a sign shows that the store is no longer selling 12-packs of mix-and-match muffin flavors for $9.99. Instead, they’re now only available in 8-packs of a single flavor for $6.99—and much smaller in size."

But Costco customers aren't only unhappy with the size.

"The blueberry muffins have changed quality," said a shopper in the recent Reddit thread.

"The muffins are tasteless and super boring. The blueberry ones are the worst!" agreed another.

In a separate Reddit thread, someone commented on the chocolate variety: "These new muffins are dry, crumbly, and have a weird aftertaste."

Yet another shopper said all the new muffins are "bland with a dry, cake-like texture."

5. Toilet paper

Similarly, the quality of Kirkland brand toilet paper has been up for debate for the past couple of years, with many shoppers swearing the product has changed for the worse.

One Reddit comment about how it's gone downhill received 72 replies.

"It makes so much lint and dust!" someone said. "The new formula leaves so much residual residue," agreed another shopper. "Kirkland TP is god awful," stated yet another.

Several women also claim that the toilet paper gave them UTIs, though that isn't confirmed by a doctor.

6. Windshield wipers

Someone's Reddit comment about how they will no longer buy windshield wipers from Costco received a whopping 206 comments.

"The brand itself is garbage. It says Michelin but it's all just branded generic nonsense and they last half as long as Bosch," one shopper shared.

"Your windshield has to pretty much be dirt free or they’ll streak and leave water everywhere," said another.

Others take issue with how loud they are.

"It makes so much noise that would drive anyone crazy," a Costco member stated.

"Squeaky out of the box. Absolute trash," someone agreed.

Emerging online, a video of the Uptown Girl singer can be seen as he takes a nasty fall on stage.

Toppling over in front of a crowd after throwing his microphone, Billy Joel’s fall left onlookers worried for the singer.

The call came as he crooned his hit It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.

As he sang, Billy lost his footing and fell on his back before his band rushed to help him.

After regaining his balance, Billy soon got back into the groove and continued his performance like the pro he is.

Singing another song for fans, Billy seemed in good spirits after his fall.

One fan who attended the show said he looked frail and was even “hobbling”.

A concert-goer said: “He looked frail hobbling across the stage.

CONCERNED CONCERT-GOER

“At one point, he was using the microphone stand as a cane.

“I was really very concerned about him throughout the concert.

“Before he fell, I said to my friend ‘he’s going to fall’ and then he did.

“The venue gasped when he hit the floor.

“He definitely looked thrown off but somehow he managed to finish the show with a final song.

“When I was younger, I was a massive fan of Billy Joel, so this is very concerning.”

Billy Joel blew it out of the box today at Mohegan Sun.

But despite onlookers being worried for Billy when he took a topple, he’s still on his a-game when performing.

On February 22, one fan took to X after attending one of Billy’s shows.

‘BLEW IT OUT OF THE BOX’

“I’ve been to a lot of concerts in the past few years playing catch up on my favorite performers but Billy Joel blew it out of the box today at Mohegan Sun, which is an amazing venue,” they said.

The following day, another concert-goer took to X to share their thoughts, writing: “Took a quick trip to MoheganSun to see the great @billyjoel yesterday!

“Fantastic show! He’s always been one of my favorites! He can still hit those high notes and work the stage!”

The Piano Man is currently in the midst of performing a string of stadium tour dates across the globe.

Beginning on March 29 in Detroit, Billy will wrap up his stint in the U.S. in November.

On his tour, he will also visit the UK and perform in Scotland and Liverpool. h

He will have some very special guests brought out at his shows such as Sting, Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart, as per reports

NHS nurse wins huge payout after being left out of morning tea round by colleague

A NURSE has been awarded a £41,000 payout after she was left out of the morning tea round by a colleague.

Susan Hamilton had accused dietitian Abdool Nayeck of bullying her while working together at St Helier Hospital in Sutton, South London.

The disagreement took place at St Hellier Hospital in South London

She claimed Nayeck would ignore her morning greetings and “stopped making tea for her when he was making it for all other team members”.

Susan, who qualified as an NHS nurse in 1986, also accused the medic of looking the other way when she spoken in meetings.

She took Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust to an employment tribunal citing a breach of contract … due to a total breakdown of trust and confidence”.

Employment Judge Kathryn Ramsden concluded the trust had failed to take “adequate action” over Nayeck’s behaviour.

As a result, Susan was awarded £41,000 in compensation.

The court heard that Susan had joined the trust as a diabetes specialist nurse in October 2012, and Nayeck joined her team five years later.

In 2018, the working relationship took a turn when Susan questioned his “competency” following a row over how to handle a patient.

She told how after the disagreement, Nayeck became “noticeably dismissive” towards her.

Bosses had been called to deal with the conflict between the pair, where Nayeck “bluntly” told his colleague: “I don’t like you”.

Despite this, the pair agreed to be “polite” to each other and signed a document to this affect in 2019.

But Susan claimed the “only change” he made was to refuse to make tea for anyone, not just her.

She said: “The only change that occurred from [Nayeck’s] side is that he no longer made drinks for the team in the morning so by extension I was no longer specifically excluded in that regard.”

Susan was signed off work with stress but returned in January 2021 where she raised a formal grievance against Nayeck and the trust’s handling of her concerns.

She resigned a year later and accused her colleague of abuse, which was dismissed.

Susan appealed the decision and it was upheld by the hospital, which acknowledged the “impact” the previous outcome had on her “wellbeing”.

Arsenal become centurions despite falling away in title race as Mikel Arteta’s men set all-time top flight record

ARSENAL broke an English top-flight record thanks to their draw against Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners were held 0-0 at the City Ground last night as they slipped a huge 13 points behind Liverpool in the title race.

Arsenal have become the first club to stay in the English top flight for a century[/caption]

It was the second damaging result for them in five days after their hopes of winning the league were wrecked by a 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday.

Arsenal will have another shot at the title next season after their place in the 2025/26 Premier League was confirmed.

Their draw with Forest and Ipswich’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United means it is now mathematically impossible for Mikel Arteta’s side to go down.

As they have avoided relegation, next term will be Arsenal’s 100 consecutive in the top-flight.

They are the first club be in the highest league of the English football pyramid for a century.

Everton are the nearest to Arsenal, having been in the top tier for 71 years.

Liverpool are also currently chasing down the record with 64 years in the First Division and Prem.

Everton still hold the record for most seasons of all-time at the top as this is their 122nd campaign in the top-flight.

Arsenal trail Aston Villa and Liverpool on that list as the Gunners have completed 108 seasons overall in the best division.

Ahead of the draw to Forest, Arteta said his side will never give up in the title fight.

But after the game, he admitted his side are blunt in attack amid injuries to Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

Arteta said: “We showed unquestionable character, how much we wanted it and tried.

“We dominated the game. We tried in many different ways.

“We persisted but lacked that spark, that final pass to unlock a well-organised team. We have to generate more shots on target.”

Arsenal ratings vs Forest as NOBODY looks like scoring for Gunners but Saliba's a Rolls Royce again

MIKEL ARTETA may not have anyone to put the ball in the back of the net but in William Saliba he has one of the best defenders in the Prem.

The Arsenal boss watched his side’s faint title hopes go well and truly up in smoke in the goalless draw with Nottingham Forest.

But his brilliant backline emerged, once again, with credit from this tricky clash at the City Ground.

Together with Gabriel, Saliba kept a tight lid on Forest dangerman Chris Wood, who scored a hat-trick in his last appearance on this ground.

But the fact the Gunners’ biggest threat at the other end of the pitch came from left-back Riccardo Calafiori – who was subbed off at half-time – says it all about the dire situation Arsenal somehow find themselves in.

Here is how SunSport’s Graeme Bryce rated the Gunners stars’ displays…
