The ‘1% luxe look’ Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton love – and why only royal (and VERY rich) women can wear it

FORGET tiaras, there is one clear way for royal women to stand out with their looks and it’s all down to one “stealth wealth” colour.

A fashion expert has shared how both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton often brave the “1 per cent luxe look” by donning head to toe white.

We recently saw the Duchess of Sussex, 43, look pristine in a dazzling £1,250 Mackage coat at the Invictus Games.

While it may not have stood out next to the snowy Canadian backdrop, Amber Graafland shared how it sent a very clear message.

Speaking to Fabulous, the fashion expert explained: “Nothing screams confidence more than a woman wearing head-to-toe white.

“Fearless, whilst being quietly fashionable, it’s the ultimate stealth wealth move.

“While most mere mortals dress according to the practicalities of everyday life, like rain, coffee drips and sandwich stains, women who wear neutrals have only one concern whilst getting dressed in the morning, and that’s looking good.

“Women that gravitate towards white are dressing to a different set of rules.”

We also saw Meghan brave the “stealth wealth” colour at the Invictus Games in 2022, when she wore a £6,210 crisp white trouser suit.

Amber added: “If a picture is worth a thousand words, then wearing a white trousers suit screams a thousand more.

“It’s a style move that establishes certain ground rules and alludes to chauffeur driven cars, carpeted arrivals and a life of drifting around clean spaces.

“Opting for a pair of white jeans and crisp white shirt do the morning school run is not something a sane woman would ever do.

“Whether heading to the office or prepping for a day of working from home, white just isn’t an option.

“One can’t help but wonder about the practicalities of her outfit choice when she enters the kitchen and starts to bake one of her fabulous cakes for her new cooking and hosting lifestyle show.”

The fashion expert explained just why Meghan loves wearing white, and it could be down to its symbolic meaning.

She explained: “For her it symbolises purity and innocence.

“It’s also a tool she reaches for when she enters a new phase of her life, hoping to portray neutrality and hint at forgiveness.

“But maybe we’re missing the key message.

“Determined to present an image of perfection and wholesomeness, when you’re a mega-host like Meghan perhaps we are expected to believe that limitations we face in our lives simply don’t apply to her.”

We’ve also seen Princess Kate, 43, don the colour for key moments in her life.

At Trooping the Colour in 2024, as she underwent cancer treatment, the royal mum-of-three looked angelic in a Jenny Packham dress and Philip Treacy hat.

Amber shared: “The decision to wear white was also rife with meaning as it symbolises rebirth, purity and hope.

“And in a subtle nod to the late Princess Diana, Kate added a striped belt and grosgrain bow detail to the dress.”

Meanwhile, she also ditched wearing red or green for her 2023 Christmas carol concert, which are traditionally festive colours.

Amber shared: “Cool, confident, self assured, she’s leaving the past behind and telling the nation, we are the royal family for the 21st century.

“The princess’s deployment of angelic white could of course convey a much deeper meaning.

“White symbolises purity, innocence, and neutrality.

“It also represents new beginnings, and a clean slate, helping us through times of stress and allowing us to put the past behind us, and preparing to move on.”

Kate Middleton's down-to-earth school run look

Whilst we have previously seen stunning images of Kate dropping the children off at Lambrook School, it turns out, on a day-to-day basis, things are much less glossy than you may imagine.

A friend told the Daily Record: “There are no blow-dries – it’s always hair up in a ponytail.

“She’s either in her gym clothes, or a dress and sneakers, very little makeup, apologising as she’s late for the school run before dashing off.

“It’s the life of a working mum with three young children – just a different sort of day job to most.”

In fact, when George and Charlotte attended their previous school of St Thomas’ in South London, it was reported that parents barely gave Kate a second glance during drop off and pick ups.

One parent told the Daily Mail : “No one really gives Kate a second glance when she does the school drop-off.

“We have a Victoria’s Secret model doing the school run, too, and the dads are far more interested in her.”

Bergerac fans blast reboot & rage ‘I’m not ready for a hearing aid yet’ over character’s ‘whispering’ – did you spot it?

VIEWERS of the brand new reboot of Bergerac have been left fuming after picking up on the character’s annoying habit.

The classic crime drama series initially ran for ten years between 1989 and 1991 and has now made a shock comeback to screens after 34 years away.

The programme has found a new home on U&Drama with the title role of Jim Bergerac this time being portrayed by Irish actor Damien Molony.

As the first ever episode got underway, fans watched on as one of Jersey‘s richest families saw one of its members brutally killed forcing Bergerac to step up and investigate just exactly what had been going on.

But as the reboot got underway, it did not take long for fans to have their say with many of them left majorly unimpressed with one specific detail.

Viewers were left disgruntled at Bergerac’s whispering as many admitted they were unable to hear a word that was being spoken.

Taking to X, one viewer said: “C’mon #Bergerac , speak up … I’m not ready for a hearing aid yet.”

A second sarcastically said: “Oh good, another whispering lead actor #Bergerac.”

It led a third to write: “Not impressed so far. I cant understand a word Bergerac is saying. What’s wrong with his diction. Maybe it’s the drink. Hope it gets better.”

Before a fourth chimed in to say: “Why do we have a couple of characters whispering a conversation to each other in their own home?!!!”

Ahead of the show’s return, Damien spoke out and revealed the main difference between the reboot and the classic show, led by John Nettles.

He said: “I spoke to John, actually, about this, and the differences, because he was remarking that it was slightly darker, and that you just got much more of a sense of the depth of these characters.

“And I guess that ability over six episodes allows you to do that. You have a little bit more time. You’re not constantly chasing the plot.”

While it may be a darker series this time around, fans of the original will be pleased to know some things have remained the same, including the famous car Bergerac drives.

It was a topic that Damien covered while enjoying a lunch with former star John after filming on the reboot wrapped.

Damien said: “He had seen the first episode, and he said some really nice things about it, and it was just lovely to touch base with him, really, and reminisce about our own experiences on Jersey, and then also about the car, because it’s the same! It’s the exact same car.”

However, John was not a fan of the vehicle back in the day and Damien added: “That hasn’t gone away! He’s still very, very, very anti the car.

“I mean, I think he loved the car, but I think it was an absolute nightmare to get going!

“And he said it did about 10 miles an hour, running downhill, with a back wind.”

Watch the heartstopping moment David Platt is mowed down in horrifying car crash in Coronation Street trailer

WATCH the shocking moment David Platt is mowed down by a hitman in a dramatic Coronation Street trailer.

The hairdresser – who is played by actor Jack P Shepherd in the ITV soap – has become embroiled with gangsters after stealing thousands from drug lord Harvey Gaskell last year.

Viewers know David was desperate to buy his house after mum Gail put it on the market to pay for Bethany’s life saving treatment in Turkey following some botched lipo.

Meanwhile David’s son Max set fire to the house in a failed insurance scam and is now in the same prison as Harvey, putting his life at significant risk.

Harvey has demanded the money back with punishing interest – threatening Max in the process.

And David has had no choice but to work for him in a variety of illegal and dangerous jobs.

However next week David is pushed to the brink and thinks the only way to pay off Harvey and to keep Max safe will be to die.

He reasons that his life insurance will pay Harvey off and solve all of his issues.

And with henchman Andy trying to kill him – David knocks back the booze and ends up stumbling into the road giving Andy the chance to deliver.

“I know I will die today,” David says in the dramatic trailer.

“Killed by a hitman.”

David will be left fighting for his life after bleeding out on the road – but will he die?

Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks recently said: “The story we’re telling is one of a very desperate David, trying to protect his family and keep Harvey and his goons at bay.

“He is struggling to navigate that, and struggling to pay back this big debt he has. He’s struggling to protect his family.

“It all comes to a massive head in early February, when we play a massive stunt that has huge consequences for David.

“So, in trying to protect everyone and do the right thing, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear.

Darkest soap storylines

Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock…

  • EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn’t.
  • “So, a real journey for David. He’s well-intentioned, but he fails, messes up and makes mistakes, and there’s massive consequences not only for his own family, but for the wider community as well.

“Somebody does get embroiled in David’s downfall, which is quite unexpected.”
