Kenan Thompson makes $100 million Stephen A. Smith joke as Kendrick Perkins on SNL

Kenan Thompson was spot-on with his impression of Kendrick Perkins on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL). Thompson (as Perkins) spoke about the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade, Charles Barkley beef, conspiracy theories, and of course Stephen A. Smith’s new $100 million ESPN contract during the Weekend Update segment. The center point of the […]

Man Utd 1 Arsenal 1: Declan Rice spares Arsenal with wicked equaliser and game-saving tackle – but title race looks over

DECLAN RICE twice spared Arsenal from the embarrassment of defeat by lowly Manchester United with a wicked equaliser and a brilliant saving tackle.

But on a day when the Old Trafford crowd swung from mutiny towards hope, it now looks increasingly likely that Liverpool will equal United’s record of 20 top-flight titles this side of Easter.

Arne Slot’s men lead the depleted Gunners by 15 points and there is nothing to suggest Arsenal can make a fight of it – with Ruben Amorim’s team roused by a Bruno Fernandes free-kick in first-half injury time before they produced an unexpected second-half display of ambition and drive.

Rice’s belting equaliser was Arsenal’s first Premier League goal in four and a half hours – and the England midfielder still had to pull off an expert challenge to deny Rasmus Hojlund a first goal in 20 games.

Before kick-off an estimated 5,000 protestors had marched on Old Trafford, mostly dressed in black to represent the ‘slow death’ of United under the ownership of the Glazers and Ineos.

But after a first half of further protests, the former Theatre of Dreams was roused by an impressive second-half showing from United.

It was probably the most irrelevant United-Arsenal fixture of the Premier League era, with Arsenal’s pursuit of Liverpool clearly a wild goose chase, while Amorim’s side cannot realistically be relegated nor qualify for Europe.

Sky’s pre-match montage of highlights from the Fergie-Wenger years only served to underline the modest fayre they were serving up.

The 7-1 humping of PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday had improved the mood music for the Arsenal.

While Arteta’s team are without an authentic centre-forward, United left their one, Rasmus Hojlund, on the bench after a run of 19 appearances without a goal.

Mikel Merino continued as Arsenal’s falsie, with Gabriel Martinelli fit enough to start on the bench after injury.

Did United need three central defenders to mark Merino? It didn’t seem so, but Amorim is fixated on his so-called 3-4-3, which looked very much like a back five here.

Merino did whistle a shot wide after Martin Odegaard had played a rapid one-two with Declan Rice.

But it was insipid, low-rent stuff all round, the home supporters only becoming animated when chants of ‘Stand up if you hate Glazers’ swept around Old Trafford like a mutinous Mexican wave.

Arsenal fans sang about having won the league here, not that many of them were old enough to remember 2002.

United’s gameplan appeared to be sit deep and if you get the ball, give it to Alejandro Garnacho because at least he can run fast.

Leandro Trossard cut inside and drilled wide of the far post but mostly it was dreadful.

Arsenal passed it around a lot, United stood there in a line of five with another line of three or four in front of them and everyone started to drift off.

But then in first-half injury time, Garnacho went on one of his runs and Trosard upended him 25 yards from goal.

For all the gulf in class between these two teams, Fernandes can still strike a dead ball and David Raya is still susceptible to being beaten by direct free-kicks.

Arsenal’s keeper didn’t seem overly concerned, his starting position was too close to the far post and his dive was superfluous as Fernandes curled his shot over the Arsenal wall.

At half-time, former Arsenal kid Ayden Heaven replaced the injured Leny Yoro to boos from the away end.

Soon, Martin Odegaard lashed a long-range shot which Andre Onana tipped over, before Rice’s volley cleared the bar from the resulting corner.

Having taken their shock lead, United actually started to commit bodies forward.

Joshua Zirkzee released Diogo Dalot down the left and he produced a lofted cross for his fellow wing-back Noussair Mazaroui to volley, Raya sticking out a foot to save from point-blank range.

Suddenly it felt like a proper game of football and United’s fans were roaring on their team rather than complaining against the ownership.

One crunching tackle from Matthijs de Ligt – who has been a rare positive in recent weeks – almost took the roof off the Stretford End.

Arteta sent on Martinelli and Myles Lewis-Skelly but United were still pouring forward and a deflected Garnacho cross located Zirkzee who improvised a back-heeled effort which Raya saved.

Lewis-Skelly, advancing from left-back was cut down by De Ligt on the edge of the box but Odegaard’s free-kick couldn’t clear the wall.

Heaven somehow got away with handling the same cross three times in his own box without conceding a penalty.

But 16 minutes from time, the equaliser arrived when Jurrien Timber darted down the right unchallenged and cut back for Rice to thrash home a shot in off the far post.

Hojlund arrived for United, while Arteta sent on yet another left-back, Kieran Tierney, shoving Lewis-Skelly into central midfield.

Merino lofted a pass to Marinelli, who shot on the gallop, forcing Onana to push wide.

Then Arsenal got in a tangle trying to play out from the back and Merino’s stray pass invited Hojlund to score – yet he hesitated and Rice executed an excellent tackle to extend the Dane’s goal drought to 20 games. .

Fernandes then forced a brilliant double-save from Raya in the dying seconds.

Man Utd 1 Arsenal 1: Gunners sit 15 POINTS behind runaway leaders Liverpool as Declan Rice rescues a draw

MANCHESTER UNITED dealt a major blow to Arsenal’s title hopes by holding them to a competitive draw at Old Trafford.

The game came with both sides enduring very different fortunes at the moment as Arsenal challenge for the title and United deal with fan protests and being closer to relegation than the top.

The first half failed to deliver much excitement until two minutes into added time.

Bruno Fernandes stood over a free-kick 25-yards out and was able to whip it over the wall and into the net to give the hosts the lead.

Declan Rice fired over with a spectacular volley in the second half as the Gunners came out firing.

But it was Man United defender Noussair Mazraoui who was denied doubling the Red Devils lead in the second half by a stunning David Raya save.

However, they could not hold onto the lead as Declan Rice netted a deserved equaliser with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box.

Neither side was able to find a winner with the result much more damaging to Arsenal’s season than Man United’s.

The Gunners remain 15 points behind league leaders Liverpool while the Red Devils climb to 14th above Everton.

Gabriel Martinelli fired over from yards out to net a potential winner but was saved his blushes as the flag went up.

Dancing On Ice star gets HUGE tribute from Premier League club ahead of final after suffering major blow

DANCING On Ice star Anton Ferdinand has received a huge tribute from Premier League club West Ham United ahead of tonight’s final.

It comes after three contestants remain in the series closer – Michaela Strachan, Sam Aston and Anton – though only two have a chance of winning, according to a leading bookmaker.

Anton is behind in the odds – with bookies saying it’s a two person race[/caption]

Retired footballer Anton, 40, has very wide odds of 20/1 with Ladbrokes, leading the bookmaker to claim it will be a two-horse race.

Despite things not looking in his favour, West Ham United have thrown their support behind his and his partner Annette Dytrt, with a good luck message proudly emblazoned on their London Stadium home.

The players also took a moment after training to wish the Hammers legend and his pro skater the best of luck ahead of Sunday’s final.

Annette’s been warmly welcomed into the Hammers family, with the pair present at London Stadium to witness the Hammers Premier League win over Fulham in January.

The pair have shown their affinity for the club throughout the competition, regularly pulling the famous cross hammers during his routines.

Pro skater Annette said: “Firstly, I want to thank Anton for bringing me into his beautiful world of football, it was a new world for me and because of Anton I have met so many amazing people from West Ham United, the players, the team and it’s been a honour for me.

“Since I am skating with Anton, I am now a big West Ham fan, it’s not just the club but every time I came to the games I just felt so welcomed, it’s like a big family for me, it was really amazing.

“I always try to put a little irons sign into our routine, I think people have seen it and I wanted to do it for Anton.

“He always speaks about West Ham, it’s his family and it’s his world, I am part of it now, I will continue to be a big fan of West Ham and support them whenever I can!

“I am just grateful for this journey with Anton and West Ham, it’s been a dream come true.”

Michaela, 58, is the favourite at 4/7 while Coronation Street star Sam, 31, is at 6/4.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “He’s arguably been one of the standout performers of the series, but Anton’s got no chance of taking home this year’s crown, if the latest odds are anything to go by.”

Anton hadn’t expected to make it beyond the semi-finals in which he beat Dan Edgar in the skate-off.

He previously said: “If you had said to me at the start of it that I would have got to the semi-finals I would have said no chance, but I am here and I here because of you guys.

“Thanks for voting for me, keep voting for me.”

If Michaela were to win, she’d be one of just five women to lift the trophy.

MORE than €1million has been splashed out on food and drink at Leinster House since the end of the pandemic, with politicians and visitors to the Dail bar knocking back more than 28,000 pints of Guinness.

A total of 28,233 pints of plain were supped in the Houses of the Oireachtas’ two licensed premises in the three-year period from 2022 to 2024, as elected representatives made up for lost time following the end of Covid-related restrictions.

And with a pint of the black stuff at Leinster House now costing just €5.50 – up from €5.20 in 2023 – it appears that TDs and Senators are making the most of the cut-price booze prices that would be all but impossible to find in the average city centre pub.

Last year alone a total of 8,362 pints of Guinness were sold in total in the Dail’s Members and Visitors Bars.

Heineken – of which 1,1618 pints were consumed – was the next most popular draft beer.

And according to the product sales report for 2024, Cork Dry Gin was the spirit of choice for the bars’ customers last year with 1,227 measures sold.

Wine was another big seller, with the own brand ‘Oireachtas’ – at €6.70 a glass – in high demand, with 3,225 units sold between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2024.

The bars’ customers – made up of elected representatives, Leinster House staff and visitors to the Oireachtas – spent just over €331,000 [€331,559.93] in total last year on food and drink.

And in the three-year period from the beginning of 2022 – the first year the licensed premises opened fully following the lifting of Covid-related restrictions – to the end of 2024, total till receipts at the two bars hit €1,008,312.60.

The latest figures, released under the Freedom of Information, confirm that the two Leinster House bars have traded strongly in the post-Covid era.

And it’s not just alcohol that’s been in high demand, as the figures reveal that tea was the biggest seller, with 9,218 cups sold in total last year.

Caffeine-loving patrons also knocked back 7,193 Americanos, while toasties were the most popular food item, with 4,044 sold.

There are four full-time staff that work between the Visitors and Members bars.

TDs and Senators have the option of signing up to a credit policy, which gives them the option of having the amount they owe deducted from their salaries after a further 60 days.
