Rangers star opens up on uncertain Ibrox future as he lifts lid on ‘stop-start’ Light Blues career

RANGERS have faced major issues this season with a struggle to keep first team centre backs fit.

The experienced John Souttar and Leon Balogun have faced time out while Clinton Nsiala took months to break into the fold.

But one central defender who was shipped from Ibrox on loan has opened up on the uncertainty of his future with the club.

Ben Davies was a regular fixture for the Glasgow team when he joined in 2022/23, but last year he struggled with fitness and missed out on more than 40 games.

He started the season with his parent club, but was soon sent over the border to Birmingham City on loan where he seems to be enjoying his time, becoming a key player for Chris Davies’ side.

The Blues sit nine points clear at the top of English third tier with a game in hand and boast the best defensive record in the league – conceding just 19 in 29 games.

Davies, whose contract at Rangers has another year left to run, has featured 28 times in all competitions, helping his side to 15 clean sheets and earning himself calls from Blues fans to be secured permanently.

On the love he’s getting from the supporters, he said: “I don’t go on social media, or not looking for myself at least, so I haven’t noticed but if that’s the case it’s really flattering and brilliant to have their support.

“I came here looking to play as many games as possible and when I first came I realised the strength-in-depth that the squad had and the quality that they had all over the pitch, especially at the back so it took a bit of time and I’ve been patient.

“I’ve done a good run of games now so it feels good.”

Though he remained tight-lipped on what the future holds given he does not seem to be part of the plan for Philippe Clement‘s team: “I haven’t thought about it yet, I just wanted to do a year’s loan and try to get going again, it was a bit stop-start at Rangers.

“I’m happy with the way it’s going but I haven’t thought past now.”

The defender’s loan agreement does not include an option or obligation to buy, so what will happen when the season comes to a close remains to be seen.

Birmingham have lost just two league games this season and look favourites for promotion to the English Championship.

Davies is one of two Gers stars on loan at the club, with Kieran Dowell also joining in January.

Ex-Light Blues star Scott Wright also moved to Birmingham permanently last summer.

Meanwhile, Davies’ former Rangers teammate Ryan Kent could finally be close to finding a new club.

The winger’s contract with Fenerbahce was terminated back in October and he’s remained a free agent since.

Kent was reportedly offered the chance to move to Iran but he still hasn’t joined a new club.

According to fresh reports out of Turkey, two Spanish clubs are interested in signing him now.

Those reports claim that both Real Sociedad and Villarreal are considering a swoop to sign the former Ibrox man.

Thousands of Scots drivers face 200-mile detour & 4-hour journey due to major road closure in weeks

Works are to get underway on Sunday, March 9 and will run until Tuesday, March 18 between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

Motorists have been informed there is “no alternative route” and those who miss amnesties could be forced on a four-hour – or 200 mile detour, reports The Press and Journal.

Bear Scotland said there is “no option” other than to close the road due to “narrow roads”.

A detour would take motorists to Fort William, to Spean Bridge and over to the A9 to Laggan, down to Perth back over the A85 through Crief to Tydrum and then back onto the A82 through Glencoe.

A Bear Scotland spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, an alternative route is not available.

“We understand that works of this nature will be disruptive and have planned the works consecutively to reduce the impact of the works.

“Bear Scotland and Transport Scotland wish to thank the local communities in advance for their patience during these essential works.

Should you require further information, or wish to discuss these proposals, please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail at NWConsultation@bearscotland.co.uk.
