Exact amount Celtic have earned from this year’s money-spinning Champions League campaign

CELTIC crashed out of the Champions League in the cruellest manner in Munich.

Alphonso Davies‘ equaliser for Bayern on the night sent the German side through to the last-16 3-2 on aggregate.

It left Celtic heroes smarting after an almighty effort[/caption]

It came in the 94th minute after four minutes of added time had been played.

The Hoops can take cold comfort from their display against the Bundesliga giants – they spurned several glaring opportunities to score in the first half before weathering a Bayern blitz at the end of the first half.

But they gave as good as they got in the second with Niclas Kuhn finally finding the net on the break – and wiping out the pain of his offside strike in the first leg.

But his old club still sent Celtic spinning thanks to their Canadian sub.

Plenty of plaudits came the way of Brendan Rodgers in the aftermath and he claimed their displays raised the club’s credibility on the continent.

But the tangible success of the Hoops’ campaign comes from the cash income from dining out at European football‘s top table.

Glasgow rivals Rangers are through to the last 16 of the Europa League – but Celtic‘s European income from falling at the stage prior in the premier competition is worth a whopping two and a half times MORE .

And that’s simply from prize money – it doesn’t include sold out nights under the lights.

The Hoops landed more than €18.5 MILLION (£15.4m) just for being there.

Then they earned A FURTHER €9.6m (£7.95m) from their five-year coefficient rating based on previous results and appearances at each level.

Add almost €4m more for their ten-year tally and €5.7m (£4.72m) as prize money for their final league placing – 21st in the grand scheme of the re-formatted ‘all-in’ league table.

Already you’re pushing the €40million mark and then the Hoops receive cash for their results – €2m per win and €660k per draw – totalling €8.4million.

It all contributes to a €46.16m (£38.225m) takeaway from this season’s adventure.

By comparison Rangers have earned just €18.5m so far – buoyed by a €1.75m bonuses for already reaching the last 16.

“Our European credibility has been restored this season – that’s my takeaway from this.

“We have shown real quality at times. Think of the last time we were in Germany [against Borussia Dortmund] and the improvements we have made.

“It was not what the players deserved, especially right at the very end. They gave so much and played with confidence.

“We had quality, some great moves and had the best chances.

“It was a really heroic performance and we were unfortunate at the end.”

Brendan Rodgers

In total the Hoops have earned almost two thirds of the national income from Uefa this season.

But to do it again will be even trickier next season.

Celtic have raised the coefficient by a further 0.2 points with last night’s draw which will lift the income slightly in future years.

However unlike this year there’s NO guaranteed league phase place for the SPFL winners.

Celtic's Champions League windfall

  • Starting fee: €18.62m (£15.4m)
  • 5-year co-efficient: €9.6m (£7.95m)
  • 10-year co-efficient: €3.84m (£3.18m)
  • Performance prize money: €8.4m (£6.95m)
  • Final league placement prize money: €5.7m (£4.72m)
  • Total: €46.16m (£38.225m)

That adds the jeopardy of missing out entirely – although there is a guaranteed €4.3m parachute payment for losing in the Champions League play-off and dropping to the Europa League.

But Rangers’ tally from that competition this season – €18.5m and counting – shows doing so would make it practically impossible for the Hoops to match this season’s numbers without reaching the league phase proper next term.

Music store in Scots city to shut after almost 20 years as they launch ‘huge’ closing down sale

A MUCH-loved music store in a Scots city has announced its shock closure as it launched a “huge” sale.

Kenny’s Music, located on Dundee’s Castle Street, stocks a range of electric guitars, acoustic guitars and digital pianos.

It has been a popular haunt for locals since it opened back in 2008.

But the shutters will be pulled down on the store as the business shifts its focus to online.

In a statement on Facebook, Kenny’s Music said: “After many fantastic years in Dundee, we’ve made the tough decision to close our store at the end of February.

“Shopping habits have changed, and more customers prefer buying online – so we’re focusing on growing our online business and making it better than ever.

“But this isn’t goodbye – far from it!

“We’re still here to help you buy, sell, and trade gear through our website, and our stores in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dunfermline are open if you fancy a visit.

Staff thanked punters for their support over the years and encouraged them to pop in for one last browse.

They added: “To all our Dundee customers – thank you for your support over the years.

“This city has been a huge part of our journey, with our store opening in 2008 and before that as Sound Control since 1986.

“There are so many faces we’re going to miss seeing daily, and we’ll certainly miss being part of the city’s music scene.

“As always, your commitment to shopping local is what helped sustain and grow the business, and we truly can’t thank you enough.

“Pop in one last time to pick up some strings, have a natter, and check out some great guitars.”

Gutted Dundonians flocked to the comments to share their fond memories of visiting the store.

One wrote: “Sad times indeed. The place and staff will be sorely missed.

“Been going in since the Sound Control days, even before I could play. First proper electric guitar was bought there when I was about 14 or 15.

“Wishing you all the best with the business going forward.”

Another said: “This is terrible news and a huge loss, always loved coming to the shop to chat all things guitar. Good luck to you all for whatever the future holds.”

A third added: “A sad day indeed! My musical journey started here during the Sound Control years. Another iconic Dundee institution gone.”

A fourth put: “Aw man, this is so sad! I’ve been buying gear from the Dundee store (as Sound Control then Kenny’s) since the early 90s. End of an era! Good luck to all of you in the future.”

Retailers have been feeling the squeeze since the pandemic, while shoppers are cutting back on spending due to the soaring cost of living crisis.

High energy costs and a move to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll, and many shops have struggled to keep going.
