Amy Schumer has thoughts on Meryl Streep and Martin Short’s rumored romance.
“There’s really no one funnier to sit next to than Marty Short, who I got to sit next to at the homecoming concert the other night,” Schumer, 43, told People on Sunday, February 16, of the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert two days prior. “I think that the tea is, I think Marty might be off the market. That’s what I’m seeing. I don’t know.”
While Schumer did not name the person who’s seemingly stolen Short’s heart, she teased, “Maybe by just like the greatest actor of our time, I don’t know.”
Schumer also gushed that sitting beside Short, 74, and Streep, 75, on Friday “was a very fun seat to be seated in.”

Speculation that Streep and Short are more than friends began swirling in December 2023 when Time Out New York theater editor and critic Adam Feldman teased via social media that there are “two quite surprising celebrity couples” who are keeping their romances underwraps. The replies hinted at Streep and Short.
Rumors were fueled the following month when Streep and Short were spotted sitting next to each other at the 2024 Golden Globes. However, a rep for Short insisted that the twosome “are just very good friends, nothing more.”
Two months later, Short admitted that he was nervous about working alongside Streep on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. (Short stars as Oliver Putnam while Streep plays his love interest, Loretta Durkin.)
“It was one of the great thrills of my life,” Short said at a For Your Consideration event captured by The Hollywood Reporter. “In fact, the first day of shooting — which was rare because I’m not brand new — I was driving to work and I thought, ‘I’m nervous today. I’m working with Meryl Streep.’”

While attending a season 4 premiere party for Only Murders in the Building in August 2024, Short and Streep sent fans into a frenzy when they were spotted holding hands. Days later, Short shared that he has “love” for Streep.
“I think it’s been a friendship that always grows if you work with someone and love that person,” he told Extra in August 2024.
Two months later, the pair’s Only Murders in the Building costar Steve Martin ignited rumors by posting an image of the trio — but crossed out his face with an emoji.
“Are u confirming this relationship?!” one user wrote in the comments section while another added, “I don’t know why the thought of Meryl and Martin makes me so happy but it honestly fills my heart with joy.”
