Monster Hunter Wilds is shaping up to be Capcom’s most ambitious entry in the franchise yet. And according to the developers, we should get ready for innovation, not just in terms of gameplay mechanics but also its thematic direction. It seems like we’re gonna see more emphasis on the relationship between hunters, monsters, and the world they inhabit.

According to the game director Yuya Tokuda, this theme will continue even after the game’s launch. The devs have plans to continue reinforcing this theme of a hunter’s role in nature and nature’s own role in the ecosystem. We’ll have to wait for the game to come out to see exactly what this means.
Get ready to be one with nature in Monster Hunter Wilds

The main gameplay loop of Monster Hunter games is a bit ridiculous if you think about it. But Capcom has always tried to frame it in a way that hunters are not mindless poachers but part of a guild that regulates hunts to maintain balance. And it seems like we’ll see this philosophy continue in the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds which releases February 28.
Wilds is planning to take the next step by making the world’s ecosystem a more active participant in the experience. Capcom’sYuya Tokuda has promised in a recent interview (via PC Gamer) that post-release content will continue reinforcing this theme.
The relationship between people, nature, and monsters, and what exactly is a hunter’s role in a world like that… There are many other things we have planned down the line that are aligned to the concept of Monster Hunter Wilds, and we’re confident this game was able to achieve what we wanted to express with it.
The game’s open-world design is also going to be a big part of how this plays out. Past Monster Hunter games separated environments into distinct zones, but Wilds being open world will allow for new features. The dynamic weather system is going to make sure that nature itself influences how hunts play out. Who knows we could face some unpredictable situations because of nature itself.
Much like the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, The Oilwell Basin experiences different seasons, drastically altering the locale and its ecology as the area shifts from the sparse Fallow, to a raging Inclemency, followed by a bountiful season of Plenty. #MHWilds pic.twitter.com/Y43OicDJ5i

Tokuda has also specified that this was a deliberate design choice to make the hunting experience feel more authentic for us. Players will face changing conditions that might affect how they approach a hunt in terms of strategy and even the behavior of the monsters they track.
The game is shaping up to be one of 2025’s biggest hits

Monster Hunter Wilds has gone through a number of beta tests before its launch and it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest games of 2025. With four confirmed ecosystems at launch, we’re going to experience the nature of this new world to the fullest. With the studio already promising future content before the game even comes out, there’s a lot to be hopeful for.
However, this doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and rainbows. Despite the game’s ambitious scope, the one place where we’re still very worried about is the game’s performance, especially on PC. Monster Hunter Wilds runs on Capcom’s RE Engine, which has been pushed to its limits to accommodate the open-world design. There have been improvements over the development time but the game might not run perfectly on launch.
We can expect post-launch updates for the game to focus on optimizing performance and maybe new areas, monsters, and mechanics. Monster Hunter World lasted 6 full years and is still being played. And Capcom seems committed to ensuring that Wilds not only delivers at launch but also gets the same kind of longevity.
