Still Game star takes £150,000 hit to offload luxury £4m Scots castle

COMEDIAN Craig Ferguson took a £150,000 hit to offload his luxury £4m Scots castle.

Ferguson, 62, put the 13-bedroom Cassillis estate on the market for offers in excess of £3.95m and it was snapped up within weeks.

Documents have now revealed he sold the property for £3.8m to a company based in Edinburgh.

Cassillis, in Ayrshire, was bought by Ferguson and his wife Megan in 2021 and they set about improving the category A listed property.

The funnyman played stuntman Callum Coburn in a 2018 episode of hit comedy Still Game.

It comes with a five-bedroom converted coach house and three smaller estate cottages.

It also boasts 1.8 miles of salmon and sea trout fishing on the River Doon and is nestled near Prestwick and Glasgow airports.

Cassillis was built in the 15th century but now features a ballroom, library, cinema room and gym.

Previous owner and founder of Confused.com Kate Armstrong bought the castle in 2009 for £3m and her quest to restore its former glory featured in an episode of BBC show Restoration Home.

Ferguson, of Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, also sold another Scots home this year after he marketed the A-listed Bargany mansion.

He fell in love with the pile during a visit home to Scotland and paid £150,000 over the asking price to get the keys.

It was put on the market for offers over £2.2m but he slashed the price to offers over £1.95m to try and find a buyer.

Ferguson became a massive star in America as host of The Late Late Show for which he earned a reported £8 million a year.

He hosted the CBS show for nine years but after quitting in 2014, he sold his property in Los Angeles and moved back to Scotland after becoming bored with the showbiz lifestyle.

He has told how he loved being in Scotland as hardly anyone recognises him.

Ferguson said: “I love not being recognised, it’s great.”
