However, her journey has not been without its challenges, as she has opened up about feeling anxiety and distress upon facing the inevitable aspects associated with male puberty, which did not align with her gender identity.

Hunter Schafer opened up about her struggles with gender dysphoria growing up

Hunter Schafer has been quite open about her journey to self-discovery before coming out as transgender. The actress, who was assigned male at birth, later transitioned to female and came out as a transgender in high school.

And while she was able to overcome her struggles, she still had to face some inevitable challenges in her journey to coming to terms with her gender identity.

In a previous interview with WUNC, Schafer shared that she grew anxious and was “terrified,” when she started experiencing physical changes such as facial hair. “It was later in the year and I could start to see peach fuzz on my upper lip,” she said.

The actress shared that she was unable to associate with these changes and felt a deep sense of discomfort, saying,

I was just really worried that I was starting to develop these secondary sex characteristics— especially facial hair just terrified me. That was something that just did not resonate with me at all, and I don’t really know why… [Gender dysphoria] is mostly this feeling of just dread and wrongness.

However, she has since overcome her struggles with the support of her friends who helped her understand and explore that part of herself. Despite overcoming gender dysphoria and living as a female for years, her past came back to haunt her as the Cuckoo actress recently revealed that she was listed as male on her passport.

Hunter Schafer’s passport lists her as male after Donald Trump’s executive order

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer recently revealed that her passport lists her as male, despite her selecting female while filling out the paperwork. The revelation comes after an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, recognizing only two genders, male and female, as assigned at birth.

“I was shocked,” Schafer said while expressing her shock and concern in a TikTok video. She also explained that all her documentation recognizes her as a female, except for her passport.

Schafer revealed that she applied for her passport after losing her old one, which listed her as female while filming overseas. Further discussing the issue, she also suggested that it was “a direct result of the administration our country is currently operating under.”

“I just didn’t think it was actually going to happen,” the 26-year-old actress said, referring to the new gender policy. The Hunger Games actress shared that she changed her gender markers on her official documents, including her driver’s license and passport during her teenage years.

However, her birth certificate was never amended. While she acknowledged the challenges the new policy would inflict on her and the trans community, the actress also noted that it would not alter her identity.

Euphoria is available to watch on Max.
