After a spectacular performance in Fallout in 2024, Walton Goggins has taken an interesting role in the third season of The White Lotus. The new season is set in Thailand and Goggins’ Rick Hatchett arrives as a guest in Ko Samui branch of the hotel. However, his arrival has some ulterior motive as shown in the first episode of the series.
Rick has come to the resort with his young girlfriend Chelsea, played by Aimee Lou Wood, for a supposed romantic getaway. However, the viewers immediately get that Rick came to Thailand in search of the owner of the branch Khun Jim Hollinger, who has yet to make an appearance on the screen.

The White Lotus Season 3 dropped its first episode and there’s a lot to unravel in this season. One particular mystery that fans noticed right from the trailer was surrounding Walton Goggins‘ character. He seemed arrogant, angry and agitated from the trailer.
Arriving at the Ko Samui branch of White Lotus, Goggins’ Rick is not excited to see host Sritala. This branch is run by Sritala and her American husband Jim Hollinger. A few scenes go by and fans get to know that Rick is there on the island to meet with Sritala’s husband.
He is nowhere in the picture in the first episode and is said to be sick. Rick tries to inquire about Jim to the health mentor Mook. In another scene during the dinner, Rick is disappointed to see that Jim is absent from the dinner.
He avoids an encounter with Sritala during dinner and leaves before her visit to their table. He is later seen in his room, googling pictures of Jim and Sritala. The entire Rick sequence in the first episode gives off the vibe that there is something shady going on.
Some fans speculated that Rick is there for some shady business with Jim and Sritala. Others came up with the theory that Jim is a fugitive and Rick is a law enforcement official there in search of him. However, other fans believe that Rick’s search for Jim is something beyond transactional.

Some Reddit fans have an interesting theory regarding Walton Goggins’ Rick and Jim Hollinger. They speculated that Rick came to Thailand in search of his father. They shared that he could be Jim Hollinger’s son from a previous marriage in the U.S. They claimed that it explained his disdain for Sritala throughout the entire first episode.
Fans also noticed that Rick was particularly agitated when matters concerning the ownership of the resort came up. They shared that all of this evidence possibly hinted at a deeper, familial connection. One fan mentioned that the actor in the Jim role, Scott Glenn, looked a lot like Goggins.

The White Lotus Season 3 also has other storylines, including the three friends on a girls’ trip, played by Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, and Michelle Monaghan. Then, there is the family played by Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Sam Nivola.
The next episode of The White Lotus Season 3 will be released on February 23 on HBO.
