“He won’t do the thing that you expect”: One Piece Star Taz Skylar on His New Villain Role in $31M Daisy Ridley Thriller

Taz Skylar was the talk of the town back in 2023 when he wowed audiences as the smooth-talking Sanji in Netflix’s One Piece live-action series. But in Cleaner, he will be wearing a completely different cap. This time, he’s Noah, dangerous, unpredictable, and nothing like the character fans know him for.

Thus, teaming up with Clive Owen’s ruthless Marcus, Noah goes head-to-head with his once close friend Joey (played by Daisy Ridley) in a battle that’s anything but friendly. And very recently, he shared his experience of playing such a character on the big screen.

One Piece‘s Taz Skylar plays a loose cannon in the new movie Cleaner!

In Cleaner, Taz Skylar steps into the role of Noah, a loose cannon in an eco-terrorist group, who crashes a corrupt energy company’s high-profile gala, and thanks to him, things go completely off the rails.

He’s unpredictable, unhinged, and more than willing to escalate things, making him the real wild card of a very calculated mission. For Skylar, playing such an intense character wasn’t just fun, it was almost a cathartic experience, letting him tap into a whole new side of his acting range. In a quick chat with ComicBook.com, he said,

[T]here’s so many elements of Noah’s rhetoric that are grounded in logic and that have a very profound point to make, that it felt like I suddenly had the license to say a lot of them and say them in a very visceral, very loud, very forward way.

Diving deeper into his character, The One Piece star shared more insights, elaborating on what made Noah such a thrilling and complex role to play. He explained,

[Noah’s] power is that he won’t do the thing that you expect. Because I can’t. I can’t really aspire to be bigger than Clive. You know, he’s not only got like a magnitude and a presence to [him] … and he really does in real life, too. So there’s no way that I can really compete with that. So my only way to come up against it is to do something completely different.

Fans are in for a treat as Skylar brings a whole new side of himself to the screen like never before.

Everything fans need to know about Cleaner!

With a powerhouse cast featuring Clive Owen, Taz Skylar, and Daisy Ridley, Cleaner is a high-stakes action thriller that delivers suspense, high stakes, and unexpected twists at every turn. The movie is definitely intriguing, though it’s hard to ignore the inevitable comparisons to Die Hard, and honestly, how could you not?

A high-stakes hostage situation, a lone hero fighting against the odds, and tension building with every passing moment, it’s a formula that works for a reason. That said, Cleaner brings its own fresh spin to the genre.

The film follows a group of activists who take 300 high-profile guests at an energy company’s gala, as hostage in an effort to expose corporate corruption. What begins as a calculated protest quickly spirals into something far more dangerous when one of their own, (you guessed it, it’s Skylar’s Noah) decides to take matters into his own hands, turning the event into a deadly standoff.

Caught in the chaos is Joey, played by Daisy Ridley, an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, who just happens to be working 50 stories up when disaster strikes. Suspended high above the city, she must find a way to infiltrate the building, outsmart the terrorists, and save the innocent people trapped inside, oh, and get this, including her own younger brother. With its gripping plot and adrenaline-fueled action, the $31 million film Cleaner promises an experience that, to be honest, fans have been looking for a while now!
