Elden Ring is undoubtedly FromSoftware’s greatest franchise yet, and it seems there has been no better time than now to introduce an adaptation of the same out of the gaming world. The studio is already working on a co-op multiplayer version of the game called Elden Ring Nightreign, but it seems a movie adaptation is what the fans want, including George R.R. Martin.

Unfortunately, there is one crucial demand from Hidetaka Miyazaki that would need to be met before the project is given the green light, that being how a strong and capable partner must be the one handling the movie
Why somebody else is needed for the Elden Ring Movie

The possibility of an Elden Ring movie is now more than ever, thanks to George R.R. Martin and his statement through an interview via IGN that revealed the movie is under works. He was an essential figure who helped FromSoftware create the mythological world of the game and the backstory for the game’s events.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the genius behind Elden Ring and the Soulsborne series, is famously protective of his work. While open to the idea of a film, he insists that he would only work with a strong partner in an interview, via The Guardian.
I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example, But I don’t think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play. We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s interest, for sure.
Known for his gothic sensibilities, one name that fans have repeatedly thrown at Miyazaki as a potential candidate is Guillermo del Toro. Toro could essentially be the one strong filmmaker that he has been looking for, thanks to the director’s previous involvement in the gaming industry with Silent Hills and Death Stranding.
Why Elden Ring Movie will pose one of the biggest challenges for any studio

Elden Ring thrives on its extensive storytelling and the vast open world that Hidetaka Miyazaki has spent his blood and tears on. Bringing that onto a big screen would easily be one of the biggest challenges any production house out there would be taking.
Furthermore, another question that arises is how much creative liberty should the team behind the Elden Ring movie be allowed to take. Take too much and it will ruin the storyline, but take too little and it will feel like watching a gameplay video on YouTube.
Fortunately, these are all challenges that FromSoftware and the studio that it’s cooperating with for the movie seem ready to take. The fact that George R.R. Martin has confirmed ongoing discussions is a promising sign, but Miyazaki’s condition remains the ultimate test of who will get to direct it.
