Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel is one of the most promising young Marvel superheroes to emerge in recent years. Her 2022 show of the same name has been one of the very few Marvel projects to be largely met with appreciation in the post endgame era.

Interestingly, like her character Kamala Khan, Vellani herself has been a lifelong Marvel superfan and has been known to geek out over the superheroes on more than one occasion.
While this similarity possibly helped her to get into character better, this also gave her more agency to state her opinions in the MCU. However, her one opinion about her favorite Avenger, Iron Man, couldn’t be more wrong.
Iman Vellani would have been Team Iron Man during Captain America: Civil War
As stated above, Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel has possibly been one of the most successful Marvel shows in a long time. As such, people’s anticipation of her upcoming projects has also steadily increased over the years.

Although her 2023 film The Marvels was met with mixed reviews, Vellani’s characters are expected to be a big part of the franchise soon (The Hollywood Reporter).
Nevertheless, questions about what the young Marvel star thinks of the MCU have rightfully arisen in people’s minds, and Iman Vellani was more than happy to answer them. In a Reddit AMA thread shortly after her series began airing in 2022, Vellani took the time to answer fan questions.
Although the actress has never shied away from admitting that she had always been a massive fan of the franchise, she joined in on one of the most heated topics in the fan base to date during the session.
Answering a question about which team she would’ve chosen if she had the chance to join the Civil War, the actress replied without hesitation, “Tony. To be fair he is kinda like her superhero dad in the comics.”
Although the MCU never ventured down that storyline, it never impacted her loyalty and devotion to her idol. In fact, as per a D23 article, her fanaticism extended to the point of her having real-life rifts in friendships due to this very debate.
I’ve lost friendships over people being Team Cap and not Team Iron Man. I guess you could say I’m a fan… In case it weren’t clear, Iron Man is my favorite.
This seems fair, as Tony Stark was what initially attracted the young actress to the magical world of Marvel. Unfortunately, recent MCU movies prove that much like Iron Man himself, Iman Vellani couldn’t be more wrong about her choice.
Unfortunately for Iman Vellani, the MCU has proven multiple times that Iron Man was in the wrong
The debate of which team was in the right for Captain America: Civil War has hounded the fan base long after the movie concluded in 2016. However, the recent MCU projects might have finally helped to put things to rest at last. The Avengers were divided in two factions primarily because of their ideologies.

The events at the end of Age of Ultron amplified that ideological difference and led to Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark deciding to sign the Sokovia Accords with a group of other Avengers supporting him.
His decision came from the idea that even the Earth’s saviors need to be held accountable so no more innocent people wound up in the crossfire.
However, Chris Evans’ Captain America, with his experiential knowledge of how deep the corruption in government organizations ran, fought against it. His point was if they decided to go with it, the Avengers would end up on a leash and left to do the government’s bidding even if they disagreed with it.
Moreover, they would also lose the power to act when they felt needed if their powers got tangled in a web of paperwork. Now, although at the moment Tony Stark’s point of view which stemmed majorly from guilt seemed compelling to many, much like Iman Vellani, in hindsight the faults in it are clear to see.
For all Iron Man argued about superheroes being held accountable, he had no comebacks for the argument about becoming mere instruments to the government. Although he was well aware of corruption in the organizations, he failed to understand that they could unwittingly become complicit in a sketchy scheme.
Moreover, handing over the major decision-making of the Avengers to the government seemed like he was trying to run away from his responsibilities and take accountability for his failures. Much like he tried to do after the events of Infinity War.
As such, although Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is one of the most beloved Avengers globally, it is a fact that when it came to the Civil War, he was wrong. For Iman Vellani, or her character Ms. Marvel to support Team Iron Man in that movie would have meant her being on the wrong side of history.
