He might be directionless, but Zoro is anything but a lost cause in the One Piece series. The mosshead is one of the edgiest and coolest characters in Oda’s manga who has shown immense character growth and development. And though there have been massive changes, it did leave room for questions.

Fans, in particular, are left scratching their heads with the character’s scarred left eye. This has also paved the way for bizarre theories, including the character having a possible “sharingan” eye. And while this hasn’t been confirmed, fans dread it for several reasons, and here’s why.
Fans dread Zoro getting a “sharingan eye” in One Piece
While he may be directionless, Roronoa Zoro is a force to be reckoned with, especially with his sword-fighting skills. He is one of the strongest swordsmen in the series and also is remarkable in many ways. This is mirrored in his fearlessness in the face of adversity and even death.

There is an interesting connection between life, death, and the in-betweens in the One Piece series. In Zoro’s case, it has more to do with him conquering death. Surviving fatal blows and injuries also ties in well with his strength and wisdom as a swordsman but points to his latent powers, as fans suggest.
A clear case would be his scarred eye, which most fans deem as a possible powerup. It is revealed that Zoro got the scar during his duel with Mihawk, yet it hasn’t been explored fully. What fans dread the most, though, is him getting a “Sharingan Eye.”
On r/OnePiecePowerScaling, users refuted the Sharingan eye argument regarding Zoro’s closed eye.
What are the chances Mihawk made Zoro close his eye until their final fight?

Interestingly, the fan-made animation had most viewers and readers deeming it a Sharingan eye. This is valid, considering there are certain similarities between Oda and Kishimoto’s series. Their rivalry, however, didn’t deter them from inspiring each other.
Eiichiro Oda’s inspiration from Naruto
Zoro getting a Sharingan eye is in no way confirmed. However, we know one thing for sure. The series does reflect influences from its contemporary Naruto in the best way possible. This is especially true for the storytelling aspects as well as power systems.
Eiichiro Oda and Masashi Kishimoto have influenced each other despite being staunch rivals. They have opened up about the healthy competition in the industry. However, it is endearing to witness two impeccable artists supporting each other, and these two did it brilliantly nonetheless.

Oda once revealed his inspiration behind Shiryu’s devil fruit in an interview. It was precisely the Iwagakure ninja who attacked Team Minato. Their invisibility jutsu served as an influence for the goated devil fruit ability. But this also fits perfectly with Kishimoto’s manga.
The mangaka cited Oda’s narrative style and how it encouraged him in more ways than one, especially when it comes to the characters. Be it Akatsuki Arc or the Fourth Shinobi World War Arc, Kishimoto killed off several ninjas. This ultimately devastated most fans, but one thing is certain.
Both series are prime examples of well-written stories in the Shonen genre that live up to their popularity. As for Zoro, we can sit and hope and even pray he doesn’t get a Sharingan in any case.
One Piece is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Shueisha’s Manga Plus app.
