Solo Leveling: Sung Jinwoo Let His Ego Come In the Way of What Could Have Become His Most Powerful Army of Shadow Soldiers

As Solo Leveling: Arise progresses, Sung Jinwoo has been building up an impressive shadow army. From the knights to the ice bears and even Kargalkan’s guards, Jinwoo has accumulated some powerful allies. But in one of the earlier episodes, he missed an opportunity that would have strengthened his power even more.

The opportunity arose when Jinwoo was faced with the threat of the ice elves, a species of monsters who were extremely hard to defeat. But betraying his usual pattern, Jinwoo never took their shadows.

Solo Leveling: Arise began with Sung Jinwoo entering the Red Dungeon. There, he encountered the Ice Bears and an incredibly difficult enemy, Baruka. Baruka is an ice elf who came equipped with an entire squad of ice elves. However, after defeating the enemy, Sung Jinwoo could not extract Baruka’s shadow.

Jinwoo himself admitted that Baruka was too strong for his level, which is most likely the reason why he couldn’t get his shadow. Thus, he returned from the dungeon, armed with only the shadows of the ice bears. But did he even try to make shadows out of the other ice elves?

The ice elves were powerful opponents. Baruka might have been the strongest of the lot, but the other elves gave a terrifying battle to Jinwoo’s knights. But after Jinwoo couldn’t extract Baruka, he did not even attempt to take the other elves, a grave mistake at the beginning stage of his journey.

Did Jinwoo forget about the ice elves, or did his ego obstruct his decisions in Solo Leveling?

There have been moments of forgetfulness where Jinwoo staggered from his position as the perfect overpowered protagonist. And that is completely fine and it just shows how human he is. The case in the Red Dungeon might have been the same. It was a long battle, and he was already exhausted. So, after he couldn’t raise Baruke, he might have given up on the other elves as well.

He might have forgotten about the others after he failed with Baruka. Or did his ego come in the way of progress? Jinwoo has definitely begun caring more about himself in season 2, and his actions and decisions show more self-confidence. There is a slight possibility that Jinwoo simply did not bother with the other elves after being unable to retrieve their boss.

Nonetheless, the elf army seems to be superior to Jinwoo’s existing knights and could be a huge help to him. They are deadly fighters with speed and skill at their side. In the early stages of his growth, the elves might have been a huge help to him, if they could be extracted.
