A CYCLIST in his 90s has died from his injuries following a horror road collision with a truck in Galway.
The fatal road traffic accident occurred at Moycullen in Galway, this afternoon.
The horror road accident took place at Clydagh on the N59 shortly after midday.
Gardai and emergency raced to the scene after the alarm was raised about a collision involving a truck and a cyclist.
The injured cyclist, a man in his 90s, was rushed to University Hospital Galway by ambulance.
But he was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later.
The road remains closed for a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and diversions are in place.
Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward with any information.
They are also asking any road users who were in the area at the time and may have camera footage to come forward.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Any road users who were on the N59 in the Clydagh area between 11:45am and 12:05pm and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
Separately, a man who lost his life in a car accident this week may have suffered a medical event, it has emerged.
David Thomas was killed in a crash on the N25 at Killinick, Co Wexford on Tuesday.
The 73-year-old, of Pugin Park, Tagoat, Wexford, was involved in a four-vehicle incident on the N25 at Orristown at around 5.15pm that day.
Mr Thomas, who was the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tributes have been paid to Mr Thomas, who was originally from Rhyl in Wales and was affectionately known as ‘Tass’.
BIRTHDAY TRAGEDY
Locals were comforting his wife Rita today, which is also sadly her birthday.
One wrote: “Thinking of you Rita on this sad birthday.”
Mr Thomas was also due to celebrate his 74th birthday in a few days.
He is survived by wife Rita and children Tye, Keith, Naomi and Shauna.
Mr Thomas will be reposing in Mulligans Funeral Home, The Faythe, Wexford on Saturday from 6pm until 9pm.
Removal will be on Sunday at 11.15am to St Mary’s Church, Tagoat for funeral mass at 12 noon.
Cremation will take place privately and the family have made a request for no flowers.
