Kate Hudson Shares Very Different Messages from Her Kids Highlighting the Difference Between Daughters & Sons

Kate Hudson took a break from promoting her new Netflix series Running Point to share several sweet snaps of mom life with her youngest children Rani Rose, 6, and Bingham, 13. In between going out to eat and hitting up the beach, Rani and Bingham each wrote their mom notes — and the notes’ distinctive messages highlights how different it is to raise sons versus daughters.

“Full hearts and stomachs,” Hudson captioned the post on Instagram. In the first photo, her family smiles around a coffee table set with pizza and French fries. In another, Rani playfully bites a cake in the shape of a toy basketball hoop with a picture of Hudson as the backboard. (Coolest cake ever!) They also sip smoothies at the beach and go out to eat, where Rani sits next to her dad Danny Fujikawa with a book in her hand.

To see her kids’ notes to her, go all the way to slide 7. It’s clear Rani put a lot of thought and love into her note, which included a red-and-purple butterfly cut-out decorated with hearts and real flowers. “Mom and dad,” she addressed the note, full of random capital letters and backwards letters. “You are the best parents ever I love you! Happy Valentine’s Day! From Rani,” she continued, decorating this part of the note with flowers as well. It’s so sweet and thoughtful!

The Almost Famous star didn’t get a Valentine’s note from her teen son, though, who she shares with ex Matt Bellamy. In a video at the end of the carousel, Hudson pans over their dishes at a restaurant until she comes across a note typed into an iPhone on the table, written by her son. It simply says, “Mom can I get more ribs” typed into the Notes app. She lifts the phone up to record Hudson, who just looks at her and smiles. As a boy mom myself, I can confirm that pretty much all they do is ask for more food (although, mine still gave me Valentine’s this year. Maybe it’s less a boy vs. girl thing, and more of a teen vs. child thing!).

“That last slide 😂😂 I love being a boy mom!!” one person commented. Someone else wrote, “The kid’s text was awesome.”

The “Love Ain’t Easy” singer, who is also mom to 21-year-old son Ryder Robinson wit ex Chris Robinson, opened up about her blended family in an interview with The Skimm last year. “The unit that I’ve created with three children and three different fathers is a seriously strong unit — and it’s ours,” she said, adding that they don’t have “many tough co-parenting moments” due to their “solid” friendships.

“We’ve managed to keep focused on the love we have for our child,” Hudson continued. “And by now we’ve gotten quite good at co-parenting. Love and what’s best for the child must always come first and somehow we’ve managed to keep that at the forefront, even when there are disagreements. And then, of course, Mom is always right.”
