Charlie Cox has donned his signature glasses and he will be returning to our screen in no time as the lovable vigilante, Daredevil/Matt Murdock. With Daredevil: Born Again just around the corner, excitement is at an all-time high as we are hearing nothing but good things about the series. Marvel has promised the fans that Born Again will be dark and gritty, following in the footsteps of the Netflix Original. Needless to say, we have a ton of expectations from the show.

However, it was a rocky start for Born Again with creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord straying away from the essence of Daredevil. After Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio voiced their concerns, the big bosses of Marvel Studios heard them and brought in The Punisher‘s writer, Dario Scardapane to shake things up. Apparently, Born Again was a piece of comedy before this.
How Dario Scardapane turned things around for Daredevil: Born Again

As per The Hollywood Reporter, after letting go of Matt Corman and Chris Ord as head writers, Marvel Studios executives sat down to review the footage that they had made so far and realized that the show simply “wasn’t working.” Apparently, Ord and Corman’s take on Daredevil: Born Again was simply too different from the Netflix series and Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil didn’t even show up in the iconic costume until the fourth episode.
Thus, Marvel brought in Dario Scardapane as a wild card to help them out of the mess they were in.
Talking to GQ magazine, Vincent D’Onofrio stated that they weren’t happy with how things were looking and those in charge, especially Kevin Feige, took their concerns seriously. D’Onofrio said, “We made it known that we were not happy, and the big bosses, especially Kevin [Feige], listened to us.”
As a result, they were able to switch gears and make a show that “feels much more in keeping with the kind of stuff we did at Netflix,” as per Cox.
What Scardapane essentially did was he reworked the entire series, added a total of 3 new episodes, and wrote additional scenes that helped combine the material they shot into one coherent piece. Moreover, many of the original cast and crew were brought into the equation including Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Phil Silvera, the stunt coordinator back at Netflix.
Was Daredevil: Born Again going to be a comedy?

Comic book writer Rob Liefeld, best known for co-creating Deadpool’s character, took to X to state that before Born Again went through a creative overhaul, “the show was a comedy.”
This was pretty much a fear of fans who still love Netflix’s dark and gritty take on vigilante/lawyer. While we do appreciate Marvel Cinematic Universe’s sense of humor, we believe that there is a time and place for everything and Matt Murdock’s story is not it.
Liefeld also praised the decision to bring in Silvera and stated that the “Action and stunts are next level.”
Prior to the Marvel Brass finally listening to the talent, the show was a comedy! They brought in action impression Phil Silvera who literally reshot most every episode. The action and stunts are next level! https://t.co/tQEuBFmWp5

D’Onofrio himself replied to Liefeld’s post stating that while Silvera was hired for the stunts, most of the credit should go to Scardapane who created the new episodes and even wrote the action sequences.
Phil was hired again for the stunts that’s true. Yet the new episodes even the action scenes were written by Dario our showrunner.
Phil came in with his expertise and coordinated the stunts. It was a wonderful restart and we all worked really hard for the fans. Charlie, myself…— Vincent D’Onofrio (@vincentdonofrio) February 18, 2025
We believe that now, we can finally sit back and relax as all of this just proves that both Marvel Studios, actors, and creators have put their heart and soul into making Born Again as incredible as they possibly could have.
So, get ready for a new chapter in Marvel Television’s story – a chapter that could be the beginning of something beautiful!
Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+ on March 04.
