Frieren’s Gambling Addiction Makes All the More Sense Because of Her Indestructible Power and Years of Experience

The protagonist of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Frieren, might be one of the strongest characters the anime and manga industry has ever seen in a long time. Her indestructible power is the reason why the Hero Party was able to defeat the Demon King, and her control of mana might be the best in the entire Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End story.

However, despite being insanely strong, there is one weakness that Frieren has been unable to overcome for a long time and is still affected by in a major way. While this weakness doesn’t affect her journey or is dangerously harmful, it does highlight her gambling addiction that fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End have continuously noticed.

The weakness in the discussion is her need to open every mimic chest that she comes across despite knowing that they are monsters. Fans have never been able to make sense of her uncanny weakness, but her next-level power and her long age in some way explain her need to gamble with a mimic chest every time in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

The mimic monster chest in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End features a variety of monsters who are in some way significant to the story. Among those monsters, the one that constantly proves itself to be Frieren’s weakness is a mimic. A mimic is a monster that evidently disguises itself as an enchanting treasure chest in order to lure people close to him and then devour them.

The mimic monster appears in the first episode itself when Frieren and the rest of the Hero Party reminisce on their journey. The story also reveals that a mimic treasure chest monster can be defeated from the inside using offensive magic, and while they may look creepy, they are not a majorly harmful breed of monsters in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

While there are spells that can determine whether a treasure chest is a mimic or not, Frieren prefers to take her chances and gets trapped almost every single time. Thus, despite being a significantly weaker class of monsters, they have the ability to trap the strongest mage in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

Frieren’s gambling addiction is reflected in her need to open a mimic

As mentioned above, there is a spell to discover the difference between a real treasure chest and a mimic, and Frieren, being one of the strongest mages, can easily use this magic. The magic has a one percent chance of failing, but despite that, Frieren prefers to check the treasure chest on her own, only to get caught by them and then use offensive magic to destroy them from inside.

Her need to open every chest despite knowing that they will be a mimic is the perfect example of gambling addiction, which turns out to be her weakness.

She knows that they can be harmful in their own ways, but she is still willing to put her life in danger just to satisfy her gambling needs, which in some ways might be one of her only weaknesses in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

However, considering her immense strength and years of experience, her gambling addiction makes sense. She knows that although the mimic is dangerous, it can not even put a scratch on her, which is why she goes to try them every single time. Plus, it works as a perfect humorous element in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
