Over 700,000 people flock to the water park each year.
It is one of the most popular leisure centres in the country.
Scores of families go to enjoy the wave pool, race around the river rapids or soar down the flumes.
But the Time Capsule is set to be closed for the entire school holidays as major upgrades are carried out.
It will close on March 3 and won’t be open for another six months – including the time while schools are off for the easter and summer holidays.
Workers will be carrying out upgrades to the water feature systems, control panels, electrical systems and replacing the pumps.
But the timing of the work has angered some parents, with the water park out of action while kids are off school in the summer months.
One person said: “Closed right through the school holidays, absolute worst planning ever – this stuff should be done over the winter.”
Another added: “So you close it during the busiest time of year with kids 6 week holidays.”
A third replied: “There goes the idea of going there.”
But some are hopeful the work could mean some broken features at the centre, such as one of the flumes and the tipping bucket, could be back up and running.
One person said: “Good, I’d rather it closed for improvements than closed for good.
“To all the folk moaning about the timing; at least during summer kids can do outdoor things that are less appealing in winter.”
North Lanarkshire Council, who own The Time Capsule, said the work is essential to keep the water park open.
Convener of Communities, Geraldine Woods, said: “We know our loyal customers will be disappointed to hear that the waterpark will close for a few months, but the upgrades will guarantee its long-term future.
“We carried out a detailed survey of the waterpark, which highlighted certain areas requiring improvement.
“In order to complete these, the waterpark will need to close for between four and six months.”
While the Time Capsule is closed, the normal 25m pool, gym and ice rink will remain open.
