“I’m there to help”: Apart From Being Narrator, NCIS: Origins Has Hired Mark Harmon for a Super Special Behind-the-Camera Role

Mark Harmon wasn’t just a narrator in NCIS: Origins — he shaped the show from behind the scenes. While fans already know he’s narrating the prequel, Harmon has also taken on a key off-screen role that proves he’s still deeply connected to the NCIS universe.

More than just a guiding voice, he’s helping craft the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs in a way only he can. So, what exactly is his special behind-the-camera job? And how is he making sure Origins stays true to the legacy he built? Turns out, Harmon’s impact on NCIS is far from over.

Mark Harmon isn’t just the voice guiding NCIS: Origins — he’s got a big hand in shaping it too. The NCIS legend has stepped behind the scenes as an executive producer, bringing his signature touch to the much-anticipated prequel. Harmon told CBS News

I’m there to help and to talk to them or to tell them what I remember from being in this for a while. But this is their thing.

And that’s exactly what he’s doing — mentoring, supporting, and making sure the NCIS legacy stays intact.

Set in 1991, NCIS: Origins dives into a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Austin Stowell. The rookie agent is still reeling from personal tragedy, adding depth to the story that longtime fans will recognize. Stowell shared in the same interview,

Loss is something we all deal with and for Gibbs, this is something that has cracked him to his core.

The show also brought back familiar settings like Camp Pendleton and Daley’s Tavern, dialing up the nostalgia for NCIS diehards. And while Harmon won’t be reprising his iconic role, his presence is still felt. Stowell alluded,

From day one, Mark has been available…He’s so good at allowing the people who are on this show to feel like they are supported.

Ordered by CBS for the 2024-2025 season, NCIS: Origins is gearing up to be a must-watch. And with Harmon guiding from the sidelines, it’s safe to say — this prequel is in good hands.

Michael Weatherly dropped a big update for NCIS: Tony & Ziva — a trailer is coming soon. The actor, who plays Tony DiNozzo, revealed the news while responding to fans. He shared, sending excitement through the fandom (per Hello Magazine):

I’d say it’s trailer time relatively soon.

The ten-episode NCIS spin-off, set to premiere on Paramount plus this year, follows Tony and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) as they go on the run across Europe after an attack on Tony’s security company. It’s action-packed, fast-paced, and, according to Weatherly, a highly physical production process.

The cast includes Downton Abbey’s Julian Ovenden, Oppenheimer’s James D’Arcy, and Shadow and Bone’s Amita Suman. With thrilling chases, international intrigue, and fan-favorite chemistry, Tony & Ziva is shaping up to be a must-watch.

Watch NCIS on Hulu & Apple TV.
