Emotes in Helldivers 2 have gone beyond just simple gestures. The game features a variety of interactive gestures, from respectful salutes to ones that can be used for some playful trolling. We’ve seen so many situations where they showcase camaraderie between players, lighten intense battles, and even serve practical purposes.

Arrowhead Game Studios leaned into this even further with the update back in September 2024 that added an emote wheel to the game. Here are five of the best emotes in Helldivers 2 that every Helldiver should use.
Best Emotes That You Should Be Using in Helldivers 2

1. Casual Salute
The Casual Salute is the most iconic emote in the game, and for good reason. We all start the game with it by default. If you do it near a flag during the Raise Super Earth Flag objective, it speeds up the process.
2. Rock Paper Scissors
This is the most interactive emote in the game and has turned into a full-fledged mini-game. It’s a great way to settle disputes, pass the time between missions, or just have a lighthearted moment with your squadmates.
3. Hug
Seeing two armored soldiers hugging in the middle of a warzone never gets old, making this a must-have for those who appreciate team bonding. It’s a perfect way to celebrate victories.
4. High-Five
A simple yet effective way to celebrate a successful mission, the High-Five emote lets you and a squadmate do a quick hand slap. The animation is well-executed, but just make sure someone’s there to return the gesture because we won’t be there.
5. This Is Democracy
Inspired by the legendary Spartan kick from 300, this emote is both stylish and functional. It’s a hilarious and surprisingly versatile emote that has become a fan favorite.
How to Emote in Helldivers 2

How to Equip Emotes
Before you can use an emote in battle, you need to assign it to your Emote Wheel. This can only be done while on your ship.
- Go to the Armory – Open the menu and navigate to the Armory, where you customize your weapons and armor.
- Select the Character Tab – This tab is located between Voice Pack and Victory Pose.
- Choose Emote – Here, you’ll see all the emotes you’ve unlocked.
- Assign Emotes to the Wheel – You can equip up to four emotes at a time. Assign your favorite ones for easy access.
Once assigned, your emotes will be ready to use in the field.
How to Perform an Emote
Using an emote is simple, but the controls differ based on your platform:
- On Keyboard: Press and hold the B key to bring up the Emote Wheel, then select the emote you want to use.
- On PlayStation (or Controller on PC): Hold the Left D-Pad button to bring up the Emote Wheel, then select the desired emote.
If an emote has an interaction prompt, a squadmate can respond by pressing their interact button to complete the animation.
Unlocking More Emotes
You can get new emotes through the Warbond Progression system. Here’s how to get them:
- Step 1: Go to the Acquisition Center on your ship.
- Step 2: Select Warbond Progression to browse available emotes.
- Step 3: Spend Medals (earned by completing missions, operations, and daily objectives) to unlock new emotes.
Since Warbonds are not time-limited, you can unlock emotes at your own pace without worrying about missing out.
