In the same discussion, Bowen also shared that this was intentionally done to showcase her nerdy persona on screen. She explained further:
They do a lot to hide it because her character is nerdy, and her character would have a hard time embracing the body that that one just has.
When it comes to Winter, she has also been vocal about how difficult it was for her to navigate puberty under the public eye. She detailed via People that she suffered majorly from body changes and had to deal with negative comments about her appearance.

The actress was in a toxic relationship with her then-boyfriend Matthew Prokop, and in 2014, she even filed a restraining order against him, citing emotional and physical abuse.
According to court documents, Bowen was one of the key figures who helped Hyland safely leave that relationship and offered both emotional and practical support.
