Who doesn’t love Modern Family? The show brought forth three families and characters that truly aced their roles and managed to tickle the funny bones of the audience. But while everything was humorous and funny on screen, behind the scenes, life wasn’t always easy for actress Ariel Winter. She started working on the show when she was just a child actress.

And according to her on-screen mom Julie Bowen, the show dressed her differently to preserve her image. While the show was known for its carefully crafted storyline, this revelation has further brought the spotlight to how young stars are treated in the industry.
Julie Bowen revealed how the show changed Ariel Winter’s dressing
Just like her Claire Dunphy personality, actress Julie Bowen is not afraid to call out things when they are problematic. Starring in the show with child actors was obviously something she absolutely loved, and despite the show ending in 2020, she still shares a great bond with all of them. But when she revealed this one detail about Ariel Winter, everyone was left surprised.

In an interview via The Things, the actress detailed that the show made Winter wear “shape-destroying clothes” to maintain her character’s “good girl” image. This highlighted the intense challenges Winter faced behind the scenes. She grew up on television in front of millions and faced immense scrutiny for her appearance.
In the same discussion, Bowen also shared that this was intentionally done to showcase her nerdy persona on screen. She explained further:
They do a lot to hide it because her character is nerdy, and her character would have a hard time embracing the body that that one just has.
When it comes to Winter, she has also been vocal about how difficult it was for her to navigate puberty under the public eye. She detailed via People that she suffered majorly from body changes and had to deal with negative comments about her appearance.
The added pressure of being styled to downplay her natural figure only made things more complicated. However, despite this, she continued to play the role with confidence until the very end.
How Julie Bowen saved Sarah Hyland from an abusive relationship?

Claire Dunphy was a very protective mother, evident from the fact that she kept a check on her kids every move. While this sometimes backfired, in most cases, she simply wanted to ensure their safety. But this approach of the character was something that even Julie Bowen, who played her, also had, and her care for her little co-stars extended beyond the screen.
In a podcast, Bowen opened up on her role in helping actress Sarah Hyland navigate a difficult and abusive relationship. Hyland has also credited this intervention with helping to save her life, as reported by Money Control. The actress was in a toxic relationship with her then-boyfriend Matthew Prokop, and in 2014, she even filed a restraining order against him, citing emotional and physical abuse.
According to court documents, Bowen was one of the key figures who helped Hyland safely leave that relationship and offered both emotional and practical support.
