“She’s a remarkable actor, a generational talent”: Taylor Sheridan Is More than Happy to Work with an 1883 Star Who Was Rejected by Mayor of Kingstown

Taylor Sheridan has been nothing but gracious with his talent for storytelling to the point where Hollywood may be slaughtering its golden goose, aka Sheridan, by milking him dry of original ideas. However, stagnation is equivalent to death in the film and television business, and Sheridan is too deep in the trenches to get out now without sacrificing a vital part of himself.

With more than half a dozen projects actively in motion at Paramount+, Taylor Sheridan would have to trade an arm and a leg to pull out of his deal with the studio now. Strangely enough, the overworked, overwhelmed writer-director seems to be operating just fine under pressure. So much so that he is busy carving out yet another spin-off within the Yellowstone universe.

And there is one particular actor within that universe that Sheridan is happy to work with time and again.

For an actor-turned-filmmaker like Taylor Sheridan, who has not only had vast experience in the field but also picked up 20 years’ worth of movie business wisdom, there is nothing as surprising as coming across a generational talent. While the industry may be littered with skilled performers and aspiring actors, a “generational talent” is relatively harder to come by.

However, while working on the Yellowstone prequel spin-off 1883, Taylor Sheridan found that unique talent in his lead actor, Isabel May, who portrays Elsa Dutton in the series and also serves as the narrator in 1923. Although without much credit in the field, Isabel May managed to impress Sheridan, who has been nothing but full of praise for the young star ever since.

In an interview with Deadline, Sheridan also revealed he would love to reunite with May in further projects in the future – “She’s a remarkable actor, a generational talent, and I would love to find other things to do.” However, with Sheridan branching off into the future of the Dutton legacy instead of the past, it seems May’s return to the Yellowstone universe may be uncertain.

For a visionary storyteller like Taylor Sheridan, there is no shortage of inspiration and originality when it comes to creating a new project. But for the foreseeable future, Sheridan seems content to expand the world of Yellowstone with familiar characters in a familiar setting.

6666 (or the Four Sixes) is reported to carry on the legacy of Rip and Beth as they move away from Montana and settle at a new ranch in Texas. However, this idea might not work out as the Yellowstone universe has already been bled dry, and prolonging the Rip and Beth arc could make it stale and overworked.

Instead of chasing after integer sequels, prequels, and spin-offs, its high time Taylor Sheridan returned to the storyboard to write another bold and original script like that of Sicario and Wind River.

1883 is currently streaming on Paramount+.
