Foggy Is Alive: Daredevil: Born Again Is Fooling Us With the Real Villain That Sets Up Season 2 With a Real Death

Ever since Daredevil: Born Again first announced that Wilson Fisk would be coming back, fans have automatically assumed that he would be the villain of the first season. Why wouldn’t they? Fisk is traditionally one of the most feared and powerful men in New York and stands as one of the most iconic villains of all time.

However, as the series has released its first two episodes, it has been pointed out that he possesses less power now as mayor than he did when he accepted the role of Kingpin to its full potential. With this in mind, one cannot help but wonder if he is actually the main antagonist.

A theory could suggest that someone else is puppeteering everything. Could Vanessa Fisk be the main villain of this season?

Wilson Fisk—Notably absent villain

The first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again established several aspects of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk. He has always had one goal in mind, wanting New York to become a better place. In this season, he seems to be approaching this in a much more sane manner, seeming extremely serious about his responsibilities as mayor.

While this could easily turn sour in the next few episodes, Fisk and Matt Murdock seem to be coexisting perfectly well. With Matt already expecting Fisk’s run to turn bad, along with several others in the city, if he were to actually become Kingpin again, the payoff would be expected.

If one were to set his dark side aside for a second and take him seriously for the goal he has, he could play a very different role this season. Rather than being a full-blown antagonist, he could become similar to Lex Luthor as president. Rather than fully being bad, he could try to implement good things that would be morally ambiguous, as he did at the end of the second episode.

At the same time, Daredevil is known for easing into the darkness within Fisk, slowly peeling the layers of his sinister core. While Fisk could still develop into a serious villain this season, fans have already seen him being pushed in the first three seasons of the original series. With this, it could be possible that someone else will be in the villain’s chair, warming it till Fisk is ready to actually go all out.

Vanessa Fisk could be the main adversary in Daredevil: Born Again

It has already been theorized that Vanessa Fisk was behind Foggy Nelson’s death or fake death. Fans believe that to further her criminal goals, she wanted Daredevil out of the way, and what better way to make him quit than by killing his best friend? While she got what she wanted, she could do so much more now with the power she possesses.

Within the first two episodes, hints are given that Vanessa is now more powerful than Fisk, assuming the unofficial title of Queenpin among fans. She is funding his campaign for mayor and she sits as the head of the five crime families of New York, becoming a bigger threat than the Kingpin himself. She is also acting notably uncharacteristic, seemingly cheating on Fisk and being upset at him for leaving crime behind.

Being unfeeling and cold, she is very focused on making profits off crime and staying on the bad side of the law rather than aiding her husband in his noble pursuits as mayor. If the series keeps going on the same track, it is very likely that she will become the main villain of the series.

Working off this, if things get heated by the end of the season, Fisk could get enough ammunition to become the Kingpin fans fear so dearly. Being in his anti-vigilante era, if Vanessa accidentally ends up dying in an altercation with Matt, it could put the final nail in Fisk’s coffin, becoming the perfect unhinged villain for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again or even Spider-Man 4.
