The creative geniuses Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are set to deliver the laughs in their latest Apple TV+ series, The Studio. Rogen, who co-created the show, also stars in the lead role of Matt Remick. The star-studded affair stars, alongside Rogen, Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, and Chase Sui Wonders. The ten-episode series will have people laughing with a behind-the-scenes look at the film industry.
The Studio Review
The Studio focuses on the struggles of a newly appointed head of fictional Continental Studios, Matt Remick, who is attempting to save the company in an industry undergoing social and economic changes. Remick struggles with creating the movies he wants under pressure from his boss, who wants him to make crazy, out-of-this-world movies.
Matt Remick wants to make auteur films that deliver on a small scale but have a lasting impact. However, upon finding out Amy (O’Hara) had been fired as the studio head, he meets with the head to discuss taking over. When confronted with the idea of creating these auteur films, his boss questions if those are the movies he will make because he doesn’t want those at his studio. Instead, he wants Remick to make a movie about the Kool-Aid man after he bought the rights to the character.
The entire concept of this film is brilliant. It gives audiences an inside look at the making of films in the modern day. Of course, it spoofs the idea of the entire thing, but you can feel the validity of some of what is said because of the mockery of creating a “Kool-Aid” movie to be a big blockbuster instead of the next great indie film. The daily battle Remick faces is what we can imagine what studio heads are facing at major studios.

Seth Rogen continues to prove that he is one of the funniest creative minds in Hollywood. What he and Evan Goldberg created within The Studio was nothing short of remarkable. I laughed my ass off through every single episode. The duo and writing team wisely craft the real struggles of filmmakers while making light of them in a comedic way that will have audiences laughing.
Rogen knocks it out of the ballpark in front of the camera as Matt Remick. Rogen has a schtick, and we all know what it is, but it works and works when the writing is on point (as it was here). Remick’s sidekick is Sal Seperstein, played by Ike Barinholtz, who is a gem in everything he is in. These two played incredibly well off each other. Supporting players Kathyrn Hahn, Chase Sui Wonders, and Catherine O’Hara are equally as brilliant.
What brings the series together is the cameos. You have some of the biggest movie stars and directors who play themselves in the series. When you can get the likes of Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard to not only play in the series but deliver hysterical moments, you can’t help but applaud Rogen and his team for making this happen.
Another thing they did well here was bringing viewers to “sets” of films and shows. Sure, we all see these things, but giving the audience an inside look at how things work in this atmosphere added an extra layer of fun for a viewer. I am sure they might have used sets from current shows, but the production team deserves a lot of credit for adding a layer to the show.
